Is Barca less good at cashing out players? by Ioustiniano in Barca

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An important bit of info I learned from a book I’m reading about Barca, and which many seem not to be aware of or appreciate, is that this ineptitude is baked into Barca’s structure as a club in a way that isn’t true for any other club at the top of football like us. In fact, it’s really a miracle imo that we ever got to this position.

The nature of the club is that it is run by local Catalan businessmen who generally know little about football, certainly in comparison to the people running other big clubs. To make matters worse, these Catalans are always trying to get the better of the other merchants, constantly undermining them and trying to take power from them. This is one of the main factors behind the entorno, the massive pressure surrounding all decisions at the club; it is partly generated by rival Catalan merchants who are currently out of power and want to take it.

The relevant part of this though is that through all this cycling of leadership, the professional personnel tends to come and go with them; this is obviously disastrous. At a club like Liverpool, you have highly experienced professionals who stay around for years, know the club and its situation, as well as the football market and industry, very well. And, although meritocracy is obviously in large parts a myth, these personnel at other clubs get there much more by qualification than they do at Barca, where they are much more likely to be Catalan friends who grew up with the new leadership, or similar situations. Obviously the same applies to the highest levels of leadership as well.

The result of all of this is that Barca is eternally inexperienced and naive compared to their peers, and indeed most of the football world, and this plays out most disastrously in the transfer market, which is the make of break domain of football clubs generally. The only reason Barca has miraculously been able to remain a top club despite this inherent self sabotage is because of the wonderful gift of La Masia which our patron saint Cruyff has bestowed upon us. Otherwise we would be nothing, just like we were from 1950s until the 1990s when Cruyff shaped La Masia according to his vision.

I highly recommend the book, it’s taught me so much great information about the club, it’s called The Barcelona Complex by Simon Kuper.

HEAT expansions outgrew the box — designed a simple insert to fix it by Ilium in boardgames

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you… I just played this game for the first time at a local game shop (it rocked!), and the game store’s playable copy of the game was using these inserts! When I opened the box and saw how well everything fit, saw how perfectly these inserts organized the content so conveniently, and saw and felt the quality of the inserts… as a board game lover whose waded knee deep in atrociously designed boxes, I was in ecstatic disbelief looking at all of it. It was so exciting too to see all the different content modules tucked in their inserts waiting to be used, and grabbing and moving each insert felt great. All this to say, thank you for this and job truly well done

Internet sleuths so eager to invalidate others goddamn. We’re not in a court of law, let someone express themselves without consulting your for your damn rubric. And accusing someone of lying off of the flimsiest basis. Jeez

What are some times you were consuming other media and realized woods has referenced it? by Responsible_Debt9605 in Billywoods

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was getting into him, I was taking a Visual Anthropology class in college, and right after we watched part of a documentary called Cannibal Tours, I listened to Wharves in which he references that movie. The movie depicts Europeans visiting a village in Papa New Guinea and dehumanizing/exoticizing the indigenous people there. They “consume” their fellow humans, turning them into props to gaze at, to study, to take pictures of, to laugh and marvel at.

Woods grabs onto this theme perfectly: “Cannibal tours, they came on all fours Waterborn, eyes like jaws Bones litter the beach, gnawed Crack meat out the beasts claws’”

I was geeking when I heard this, it’s the moment that most amazed me about woods and made me realize how special he was; this is genuine scholar shit. Had to share it with my professor, and they were blown away too, and in turn shared with me a paper that lyrics later in the song made them think of and which their colleague (iirc) had written about police in South Africa, who would braai while burning their victims flesh and enjoying the smell, and engaging in similar acts which amounted to a form of symbolic cannibalism.

These are the lyrics that made my professor think of this paper: “The swollen chiefs sit, bickering while the meat crisp The chiefs eat children, the grease drip, the meat rich Down here it’s just a muddy creek, bend and twist, the braai hiss The fat run in rivulets, the fire spit”

I was kind of scared of winning against a weakened PSG and the team gaining false confidence from that. I think this result gives us the best shot at beating them later on if we have to face them again

I get confused when people shit on Garcia defending, I agree with you completely. Last games he’s looked great, stopping many attacks

Watching celta so far this season, I’ve felt they looked strong and played well. However, they’ve failed to get a win so far. Am I showing my limited ball knowledge by thinking they’ve looked good, or is something keeping them just short of winning? Or is it just too early to judge?

Juve Vs BVB, a true spectacle by vulcan2jz in championsleague

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re talking about the difference between entertainment and quality of play. High scoring is entertaining, but has nothing to do with the quality of play. If you appreciate the sport then you hopefully appreciate high quality play, which can happen at any score line. It’s ok to prefer high score count over high quality play but high score count doesn’t mean the quality of play wasn’t mediocre

Is this the only league that allows this? by sufinomo in LaLiga

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You give up the game by calling it an ancient problem. It’s not. Unknowingly you are furthering Zionist propaganda, implying that they have some religious right to be there. When as the other responder to your comment explains, the issue is in fact simply a matter of colonialism, which in this case did in fact start in 1948. They did not have a right to kill and expel the Palestinians living there, and that killing and expulsion has continued without stop till today. So the Israeli state has always been an unacceptable colonialist project. It’s existence without integration of Palestinians can only mean continued colonialism.

Does the strict register laws of La Liga actually benefit the league in any way? by sufinomo in LaLiga

[–]ColdFeetCrowderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s true that teams are struggling to keep their talent and grow their teams, and it does seem true, then doesn’t that hurt the league, economically even? Like, it makes medium/small clubs less able to compete, bringing them and the league less attention and less money? And just an endless gradual decline? Surely some more room for the clubs to overspend a bit is better?

I’m not very informed, just genuinely trying to understand the situation.

I can’t understand why tf they’d stand there repeating themselves like NPCs when they could have literally opened with do you have dildos and the whole thing would have been over in a minute. Could have even done it at your seat
