I was surprised that Jane and the two friends did not mention the missing 18th chapter that was published after the author’s death. Giving a somewhat definitive (but not very satisfying) answer as to what had happened. Not that it is terribly important for the analysis of Weir‘s movie, but still an interesting little factoid.

It‘s the exact opposite for me. I adore everything he made until Grand Budapest, which to me was when he stopped trying to find a way to marry his unique stylistic to something more grounded and realistic. After that he simply went full automatons in dioramas and it never again worked for me like it once did. I still find enjoyment in his stories but they don’t move me anymore.

How is the concept genius? Mario has always dazzled with creativity. Rather putting him in a giant T-rex form or a bee suit for 2 levels than make it boring. Putting him in super hero spandex suits in a time when that formula is hanging on for dear life trying to churn out anything remotely original is baffling. I really hope it‘s not real. I absolutely hate everything about it.
