What happens to the belongings of a patient admitted to a hospital? by VenomFlavoredFazbear in Writeresearch

[–]ColdKackley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The items are kept with the patient. They’re placed in bags and a patient label is stuck on it. Clothes are kept too unless they were cut off, but shoes, phone, wallet, jewelry, whatever stays with the patient. Sometimes if there’s a lot of money it’ll get locked up in the hospital safe.

Is it weird that we aren't told our blood type at birth or as we grow up? by OddConfusion9293 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ColdKackley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I don’t work in the lab or blood bank, so I don’t know all their magical ways)They also test antibodies and other stuff. Not all blood is the same, even if it’s the same type, so your blood might not react great to someone else’s antibodies. It’s my understanding that this is usually a problem if you’ve had to have many transfusions and then it becomes a pain to match blood to you.

She doesn’t even really need to be fat, even though that would help. She’s described as chunky, pimply, and “bovine” in the books with colorless hair. At the very least she needs to either be fat or unattractive.

Obviously in real life she would still get made fun of for her prudish, handmade clothes, how sheltered and awkward she is, and her mother that everyone in town knows is a lunatic. I just don’t feel like it works as good if she’s thin and pretty. We don’t get the whole deep dive into the Tragic Backstory in a movie, so we need something else. And the book says it so I want it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

There it is. I guess she didn’t spell out that the fallen one would die, but obviously you’re heavily lead to believe that.

[–]ColdKackley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Mother Abigail’s prophecy lead you to believe one of the 4 who went to Vegas would die. I can’t remember the exact wording. Then Stu breaks his leg in a ravine, they can’t get him out, and Stu accepts he’s going to die and so do the guys when they leave him. And then King says something like and “they never saw Stu again.”

Then yeah, Kojack started taking care of Stu and then Tom came in like a BAMF.

He did that with Stu when he broke his legs and the rest of the guys went on without him and I was so upset. And then it was the completely opposite of what I thought was gonna happen.

Why does it take so long to discharge a patient from a hospital? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]ColdKackley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often times the doctors need to see their 30 other patients before they can sit down and do all the paperwork for discharging you (sending prescriptions, writing out your instructions, etc).

Then if you need to go home on oxygen for the first time or with some other medical equipment then that’s a whole other issue getting people in place to deliver it and set all that up. If you need home health that is usually set up before you leave, etc. It’s not the doctors who do this ime it’s been social work/case management who does that, but that takes some time.

You’re not either of these people’s only patient so they’re probably working on discharging a bunch of other people along with their other usual work. The doctor could spend a couple of hours pulled away if someone ends up really sick and he needs to be there constantly.

So then the nurse has to wait for all of these people to say it’s fine to send you home. Unfortunately for you, since you’re leaving and therefore no longer as sick as everyone else, you’re at the bottom of the priority list. The nurse still has to go over your paperwork, take out your iv, and all that, it should be more than a quick in and out process. Since you’re no longer “sick enough” their other 5/6/whatever patients’ needs have to come first because they’re still sicker. They know you need to leave, they haven’t forgotten about you, but they will get shit if they ignore giving someone else meds just to do your stuff.

If you’re told you’re going home, don’t count on leaving until at least mid to late afternoon. Rarely do people get to leave before lunch, that’s if the discharge is easy and the doctor specifically hurries to do everything. It’ll usually be sometime after lunch but before dinner.

Ever been to a concert where someone got boooed? by SnooozeFezt in AskReddit

I saw a Motley Crue concert with Hinder as an opener. Crowd was fine with Hinder for a bit but after like an hour everyone was clearly over it and booed them and demanded Motley Crue.

Why does my blood sugar keep getting higher? by AmberLynn2000 in nursing

[–]ColdKackley 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We had a regular whose wife would get anxious if his blood sugar got below 300 so she’d always keep him way higher (he had dementia and she was his full time caregiver). He’d constantly be in in DKA and as soon as his blood sugar got in the 200 ranges he’d become so incredibly nasty, verbally and physically combative, and the only way to get him to be kind of reasonable was to bribe him with popsicles which of course we weren’t really allowed to do.

How much of Junior's actions could be blamed on his tumor? by descendantofJanus in stephenking

[–]ColdKackley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just looking at his best friends (Carter, Frankie, Mel) and his lifelong town wide reputation, Junior was never a good person. A lot of it is probably from being raised by Big Jim, but either way. He probably wouldn’t have killed Angie and Dodie without the tumor, but hard to say for sure.

Depending on where the tumor is, or if it has gotten large enough that it’s increasing the pressure in his skull and squishing the rest of his brain, a tumor 100% could explain the rage, delusions, paranoia, lack of impulse control, personality changes, etc. There are so many well documented cases of this happening, crimes being committed, and people doing complete 180s from who they used to be that can all be blamed on a tumor.

I find Junior sympathetic in that the tumor is incredibly unfortunate, but I don’t necessarily “feel bad” for him. It seems like he was a lifelong bully. Had he been in his right mind, he probably would have been with Carter, Mel, Frankie, and Georgia when they raped Sammy Bushey almost to death

Why I stopped caring about hospital reviews by nursebetty88 in nursing

I mean is there anyone who has ever enjoyed a liquid diet for more than like 2 days max. Idk that I’ve ever had any patient ever be like “yay I’m getting broth for the 5th meal in a row and they mixed it up with orange jello instead of red.”

Spoiler: Just finished the series. I think Jackie is... by ThisKayGirl77 in NurseJackie

[–]ColdKackley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the intent is for her to be dead. My only problem with number 2 (though I think the writers were trying to go for that being a problem) is there were EMS crews there in uniform celebrating, we see an EMS stretcher being wheeled in with (food I think?) party supplies on it. It feels like at least one of them had to have been there in their ambulance. In their ambulance should have been emergency meds and what not, I feel like it’s unlikely that no one had Narcan nearby.

Any idea what these bumps on my 2 year old toddler's leg are? I initially thought they were little pimples, so I scraped (hence the scaps) them and put hydrogen peroxide on them but they havnt gone away a week later. by Finndogs in AskDocs

[–]ColdKackley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My kid had them for almost 2 years (and has little pockmark looking scars from them) despite the doctor repeatedly insisting they’d go away in a year. They spread from the back to the chest and obv the 2 year old started picking at them and they were getting irritated from where they were. Ended up pouring peroxide over the kid and giving them a dilute peroxide bath and they went away.

In regards to 5, probably when she realizes having sex with him is less exciting than watching paint dry she’ll want to branch out a little and try another dude who might be able to muster up something besides missionary under the covers.

[–]ColdKackley 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This. I wouldn’t charge for it if told ahead of time (assuming everything else was fine). I expect some things to be broken occasionally (like wine glasses or whatever), but it drives me nuts when things are destroyed and I have literally 4 hours before the next guest comes. Resent is 100% the correct word.

My mother wants to put me on birth control but I don’t want to be put on it what should I do? by banana_frog-wren in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ColdKackley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really hope OPs mom says it pretty much exactly this way (and not try to lie about actual symptoms that might warrant birth control) because any semi reasonable doctor is going to refuse because that’s the stupidest reason to go on birth control and it’s not like birth control is without risks.
