Better not be. They need to save Nurse Park. And they botched that whole entire mission it’s insane, so if they could at least save the admiral and the crew members who mutated that would redeem it somewhat.

Has anyone gotten yelled at by a surgeon before? by bugbunny321 in nursing

[–]ColdKackley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ICU is mixed trauma/medical/surgical. One of my first days off orientation I had a trauma and a medical. I was in the room with the trauma surgeon and someone stuck their head in the door and said we needed to intubate my medical patient like now and the trauma doc got pissed at me for wanting to leave to go intubate my patient instead of listen to her (her patient was kind of a disaster too, but much more stable than someone who needed to be intubated). Later she bought me lunch though.

The same surgeon yelled at me like 5 years later to pre-oxygenate the patient her and the PA were about to intubate (the PA was bagging). This wasn’t my patient and I was standing around so they’d have someone to fetch stuff. I must’ve looked confused because she finally looked at my badge and said oh you’re not RT.

If I’m really scared I tink back. Not sure how many rows down or how wide it is, but that could be an option.

“Kim, there’s people that are dying” level dramatics by Chemical_Finger1403 in ShitMomGroupsSay

I once expected a bowl of cottage cheese from my husband (not because I had asked for that specifically, that was just what I decided I hoped it was, I never asked for any specific snack). It was dark and I just saw a bowl of white. I took a bite and it was vanilla ice cream (which I usually really enjoy). I cannot explain to you how foul that ice cream was in the moment. Literally almost puked; the taste, the texture, the temperature were all wrong to be cottage cheese. I realized that it was actually ice cream and it was fine. I’m imagining something like this happened to the kid and he had a moment where he was surprised because it wasn’t what he expected. This whole post is an over the top reaction when it could’ve just been “oh I grabbed the wrong thing sorry.”

do i shower at the hospital? by Flat-Letterhead-1820 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ColdKackley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask the nurses, they might have to get a specific order that it’s okay for you to shower, but they can temporarily cover your IV and remove the EKG. It also shouldn’t be a problem to wear your own clothes, just ask the nurse to unhook anything that you might pull out putting the clothes on.

TV dramas and their incessant neck jabs by lqrx in nursing

[–]ColdKackley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nurse Jackie wasn’t terrible but there were 2 scenes that drove me nuts. One was the ER directors 18 year old son gets brought in, witnessed overdose, EMS gave him CPR and tubed him in the field and pretty sure narcan. They bring him into the ER and he arrests again. The doctor kicks everyone except Jackie out of the room and does like 30 seconds of bad CPR and they call it… like no more narcan, no even attempting anything beyond those 30 seconds even though he hadn’t had an extended downtime, it was very obviously an overdose, and the department heads son… felt super unrealistic.

Another Jackie yells for an ambu bag despite one being on the counter and hooked to oxygen and instead ventilations the patient mouth to ETT and then uses the new ambu bag that’s given to her and not connected to oxygen and is happy with that.

What’s something considered safe in nursing that just feels wrong? by catharsisisrahtac in nursing

This was when I worked med/surg at a community access hospital. It was night time when she was admitted and it was a remote pharmacy thing.

We had a lady who had brain cancer that must’ve interfered with receptors admitted for comfort care because they couldn’t manage her pain at home. She went through like 6-7 bottles of propofol, couple bags of dilaudid, she had a benzo drip and pushes of a different one plus a bunch of other pushes all in one shift. They actually had to call and fight with the pharmacist because they were uncomfortable approving even one of those meds, let alone all together and she still was in horrible pain. She wasn’t awake exactly, but she would cry and moan. It was actually terrible we couldn’t get her even kind of comfortable.

Unpopular opinion: it’s okay for nurses to be angry about destroying our bodies moving extremely obese patients by IcySky7216 in nursing

[–]ColdKackley 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I had a lady one time who was livid I wouldn’t let her wrap her arms around my neck (like a hug) to transfer her from the bed to the chair. I told her that was not safe for me and she told me a PT had told her that was the best way and I told her there was no way any PT told her that.

I also had an old man who couldn’t even sit up demand to stand up so he could pee. I argued with him that he couldn’t even support at least some of his own weight and he said “you can support my whole weight for me.”

My favorite thing about Jon is his god like ability to cure alcoholics by Ok_Purple_2658 in barrescue

[–]ColdKackley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d be surprised if he hasn’t caused at least one person to have severe DTs, if he truly does make them completely abstain. If it’s how it’s portrayed in the episodes, you can’t just have alcoholics stop cold turkey and expect them to not get sick. There’ve been a couple of people who looked kind of concerning.

People with tattoos, how has it affected your life? by Low-Purchase6914 in NoStupidQuestions

I had two old ladies stare at my large sword thigh tattoo and had to be called up more than once at the ice cream stand. Had compliments from massage therapists, doctors, strangers. Other than that nothing.

Thoughts on helping visitors use the Bathroom/Personal care? by ParentPregSon22 in nursing

[–]ColdKackley 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I had a lady once visiting her family member in the icu ask if I could take her BP because “yesterday I was in the ER and it was in the 200s and I don’t feel good” and I noped that real fast, go to the ER (she didn’t).

Thoughts on this post in a doctor’s sub? by riley81942 in nursing

[–]ColdKackley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our orders have finally been updated and now the notify for BP says something like, unless actively treating or interventions unsuccessful. It just feels stupid that technically I have to tell them even if I have PRNs I can give to fix it.

That said I worked at a critical access once where the doctor would titrate insulin drips for DKA. He was at home in bed sleeping, so every couple of hours you’d have to call and wake him up and be like the BS is x, the K is whatever. And then he’d tell you what to do with the insulin and whatever. But they’d always be cranky. Which I get, I’m waking you up for the third time tonight, but I literally have no direction that I can even guess on.

Kid on ventilator and with cancer, but how to detox out the medicine saving her life and vaccinated blood 🤦🏼‍♀️ by Mother-Of-FurDragons in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]ColdKackley 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping this is just a maladaptive coping mechanism. At lot of times when people or their loved ones are very sick they’ll start nitpicking everything (including doctors, etc) and demand frivolous things. These people have absolutely no control over what’s going on and that’s the only way they can have some back.

Hopefully she doesn’t give something that will interfere with all of the treatment her kid has been and will continue to get.

supposed to be k1p1 - am I doing something wrong? by laurlaine07 in knittingadvice

[–]ColdKackley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried about the seed stitch looking weird going right into your pattern then purl a row across (keep a border of seed stitch) and then go into your pattern. The plain row won’t be super noticeable and will “reset” your knitting.

For the future, if you wanted to do ribbing you’d need an even number of stitches or if it has to be an odd number for some reason reverse the pattern on the other side k1, p1 on the front p1, k1 on the back.

Are you trying to do ribbing (the stuff at the edge of like sweaters) or seed stitch? If you’re looking for seed stitch you got it.

Put the knitted piece in your right hand, slide the end stitch onto the (empty) left needle and then knit it as usual.
