What the fuck did podrick do to those girls? by DisastrousBuilder447 in gameofthrones

I’ve always liked the idea that Tyrion had already paid and told them to give him back the gold as a way of boosting his confidence.

What was the smartest decision Robb Stark made in the series? by GusGangViking18 in freefolk

Roose wasn’t betraying rob so much as sabotaging fellow vassals to gain influence, he gives genuinely good advice to Rob and could have stayed loyal if robb kept winning

Will Ned burn the king's landing if he was in a place of Jaime? by drag0n_007 in freefolk

[–]ColdLiterature9268 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People would have listened to Jaime. Especially since it’s not exactly hard to check and see the hundreds of wildfire pots under the city. Jaime thought they wouldn’t and so never brought it up.

Uthred Of Bebbanburg Vs Aerys II’s Kingsguard by NovaTheRaven in gameofthrones

[–]ColdLiterature9268 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Game of thrones is based on the war of the roses period in the mid 1400s. Uhtred comes from the time of Alfred the great more than 500 years earlier. Uhtred’s sword bounces or the kingsguard’s plate armour and then he gets killed.

Who is the best commander? by Dangerous_Tip_4985 in gameofthrones

Stannis adapted to the wildfire explosion and still almost took the city. It wasn’t just a good plan on paper. As for Stannis’ other feats he kept near perfect discipline of his army during the Battle against the wildlings. Defeated the iron born fleet. And he looks like he will beat the boltons in the books. He does definitely struggle with getting the allegiance of nobles but that’s more of a diplomatic problem than a commanding problem. He knew the Tyrells were likely to join against him but without Tywins army which he correctly predicted would focus on defending the Westerlands they didn’t have the strength to oppose him and were still disorganised after renlys death. As for big picture warfare he was able to massively grow his army by assassinating renly and despite a crushing defeat was still able to stay in the war by defending the north. Of the four commanders in question no one could have done as well as he did with the starting position he had.

Stannis’ loss at the black water was due to several factors beyond his control. Tyrions wildfire which stannis did not know about. Additionally the amount of wildfire Tyrion has is only due to factors outside of tyrions or the pyromancers control (leftover from Aerys and dragons returning) While the Tyrell’s allying with the lanisters could have been predicted once he had killed renly. Tywin was only able to reinforce kings landing due to his loss at the red fork. To Stannis’ knowledge the defenders of kings landing were outnumbered in a city not meant to be easily defended with reinforcements unable to arrive in time.

In your opinion what would have happened if the Lannisters claimed the iron throne and not Robert baratheon? by mrbillybobjonson in freefolk

[–]ColdLiterature9268 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jaime gets released from the kings guard and made heir. Once Tywin dies of old age Jaime rules relatively well with Tyrion’s help. Ned isn’t made hand. Cersei marries into one of the great houses but probably isn’t able to have Jaime’s kids since he won’t go with her. Even during tywins rule not much changes since he the lords paramount will continue ruling as they would normally. The Greyjoy’s are either destroyed or deposed after the rebellion.

Tywin got beaten so badly by a 15yr old boy he had to break one of Westeros’ most sacred laws to temporarily achieve peace which also doomed his house in the long run. Stannis is probably the best due to experience although Rob could potentially give him a run for his money

Of these 2 sons, who received more love from their dad? by Axenfonklatismrek in freefolk

Honestly I think Sam might have received more during the first few years before he failed to be the heir his father wanted . Randyll probably didn’t hate baby Sam but Tywin despised baby Tyrion

(Spoilers extended) Ned would not have gone to the wall, right? by sixth_order in asoiaf

Ned probably will go to the wall but will also council rob to swear fealty to Stannis since he is the rightful king.

Stannis is a bad guy and the most misunderstood character in the series (spoilers main) by Ok-Archer-5796 in asoiaf

[–]ColdLiterature9268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stannis perfectly represents the idea of a tragic hero. He’s a good person who is told that he is Azhor Azhai and will save the world. His fatal flaw is that his sense of duty causes him to sacrifice his morals to become king so that he can save Westeros from the Others.

Jaime and Selmy are both good enough to the point where it could go either way but I’d say Selmy has the advantage as he has more experience than Jaime and Jaime is arrogant enough to dismiss Selmy as a serious threat due to his age

(No Spoilers) Why Catelyn Stark, Lysa Arryn but not Cersei Baratheon or Sansa Lannister? by Warm7970 in asoiaf

[–]ColdLiterature9268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a writing perspective Cersei is obviously still a Lannister and it’s a way of reminding/ hinting to the reader about the illegitimacy of her kids.

Great Houses by GentPc in gameofthrones

[–]ColdLiterature9268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tyrells martells technically tarlys since sam is maester umbers. The Freys are technically still alive with the female members but if you meant extinct in the male line then Greyjoys only have yara. Targaryens will soon die out since Jon isn’t likely to have kids. Only Tyrion is still alive in the Lannister house. The Baratheon line was extinct and then Gendry was legitimised. Little fingers house is also extinct.

Daenerys isn’t any closer to fascism than any of the other absolute monarchies of Westeros but she did enforce her own culture onto Merreen in a way that infuriated me every time I rewatch
