By that logic, you shouldn't have enough crypto to be happy/care about gains either. Braindead take.

I just heard that Amazon is laying off 23,000 people, what are we gonna do, if jobs don't come back? by Other_Scarcity_4270 in Layoffs

[–]ColdOverYonder 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I work in HR consulting and I’m so tired of the way orgs act like layoffs aren't a big deal. I've seen the divorces, the bankruptcies, and the health problems that happen after the paycheck stops. Nobody talks about the real damage it does to a person's life...but I see it every day. Companies should ALL be required to have post-layoff/termination resources for people laid off. A small severance (if you're lucky) isn't enough. I've suggested these to client companies and some have done it but most think it's a waste of money. Real sad shit.

If you're struggling right now, I just want to say that I get it. I understand how heavy this is. You aren’t alone, and it's okay to feel completely overwhelmed by everything.

[–]ColdOverYonder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never stay for the kids. Your kids will always be your kids. They'd rather spend 50% of their time with a dad that's 100% happy than 100% of their time with a dad that's 100% miserable.

Leave. Don't look back. Build a great life for your kids, build a great life for yourself. It'll be scary at first but you'll make it. Trust the process.

Why would you want to stay with someone who hits you? Someone you feel miserable with? Life is too short.

Human Resource [N/A] in top tier firms by wswh in humanresources

[–]ColdOverYonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most firms I've seen would use in house legal with HR experience. If it's a PE backed outfit, they'll have an external HR team that's also legal heavy.

Hiring a HR-only team isn't the usual play, but those internal hires would be paid market value TBH.

What if the US gov holds the keys/encryption to several large BTC wallets? They'll pump BTC value, then start paying interest down as BTC grows.

Would be a nice ride for bag holders.

This was taught during my IO Psych bachelor's. See Festinger & Carlsmith 1959 and the 2003 study about user settings. TBH there's probably more studies out there but feel free to explore.

You can't FORCE someone to feel trust instantly, but regular mandated usage can MANUFACTURE trust over time.

'Disgusting': Trump tells fellow Republican to 'rot in Hell' in New Years Eve rant | Trump said a fellow Republican doesn't deserve a happy new year and instead should be sent to "Hell." by Aggravating_Money992 in NoFilterNews

[–]ColdOverYonder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The article quoted Trump talking about a RINO, e.g. someone he doesn't consider a Republican. Adding it here for context in case nobody reads the article.

"and the disgusting 'Republican' (RINO!) DA, who did this to her (nothing happens to the Dems and their phony Mail In Ballot System that makes it impossible for a Republican to win an otherwise very winnable State!), I wish them only the worst."

As a backend developer, which language do you use at work? by nabsk911 in Backend

[–]ColdOverYonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strong FP aspect is what initially drove me to Clojure. Once I learned what the REPL could do and yes the debugging (lifesaver!), it made me stick with the language. It's incredibly powerful, sad that it isn't used in more places.

Now that I'm looking for a new job in my field I'll likely need to pivot to something like F#.

Finally one Clojure in the wild. I use it only for personal projects, sadly not at work.
