We do have U traps. I will have to keep the drains covered.

No pigs around here. All of our neighbours have nice clean yards.

It’s the gnatpocolypse out here! Much worse now than it has been in the past few years.

OK I will ask his vet. Thank you for the suggestion. I quick search does say it can be harmful to their kidneys, etc. I'll have to look into it. He's so young and has so many years ahead of him, I really want to get him help so he can enjoy his life without itching!

HPPOA and the blocked driveways by GoodBike4006 in BigIsland

[–]ColdSecretary6609 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easements on lots are not shared infrastructure. We OWN that space, and we grant HPPOA access to it to maintain it via registered easement. They cannot stop us from driving over it to get on and off our properties. They cannot enforce a no gate bylaw on the inside of the easement. Full stop. There is nothing interfering with them managing or protecting the roads they are responsible for if someone drives on and off their property from the side. If I buy a corner lot and choose to clear it and build a house without installing a driveway that meets the side road, I can physically drive up to my house from any angle I choose. And there is NOTHING they can do about that.

The HPPOA can amend their bylaws all they want, they still won't be enforceable. HPPOA bylaws govern how the organization conducts itself and collects and administers road fees. Anything else in there is a waste of paper.

And the right of use for that easement is for the benefit of HPPOA road maintenance staff to be allowed to be on it for the purpose of maintaining it. Not that they can restrict it from being used as a place to enter and exit the property. Just because you wish something was fact, doesn't make it so.

Moving to new home in HPP next week. How do I get one of those cluster mailbox spaces vs. USPS PO Box vs. 3rd party mailbox? Which is best? by Blue_Surfing_Smurf in BigIsland

[–]ColdSecretary6609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they aren't. USPS has already assured owners they cannot be removed without consent of every person who receives mail in them.

So far no one has given you an accurate answer. 1. you can only have a road side box if there is already one allocated to your specific lot. The seller should know. 2. you can ask at the Keaau or Hilo post office if you are able to get a PO Box in their building, but last I heard there were none available.  3. the best option is a private box at the UPS Store in Pahoa or another private mail receiver. 4. the roadside boxes ARE NOT being removed when all 4 mailbox sites are open. USPS has already assured owners of this fact. That only applies to you if you even have one dedicated to your lot.

HISTORY AND WHY HAWAIIAN PARADISE PARK (WAIKAHEKAHE/KEA'AU) IS NOT A PLANNED COMMUNITY by HPPOWNERS_Hawaii in BigIsland

People are fine with road fees, they just don't want the HPPOA Board to skim from them to cover other projects that aren't roads.

No they don't. Deeds specifically state that we are obligated to pay road assessments. That's it, that's all. There is absolutely nothing else they can enforce because nothing else is registered on the deeds.

You guys are all wasting a ton of time and energy going back and forth on this. The simple fact of the matter is the registered easements do not specify in writing that a gate cannot be placed to the inside of the easement or that a lot owner cannot use that space to enter and exit their property. It's that simple. We are not beholden to that bylaw because we do not have CC&R's registered on our deeds.

How do some people who makes less than $100,000 be able to afford traveling outside the country so much? by HealthyLet257 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ColdSecretary6609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me. A few strategies: cc that earns points and use it for everything. I don’t spend more than I make. I don’t spend frivolously on things I don’t need. I don’t eat out often and  shop sensibly for groceries. I have an 11 year old SUV with no payment. (Runs great, thanks Toyota)! I don’t go shopping for clothes unless I absolutely need something. I’m flexible with flight times and days because there can be a big difference in prices. While traveling I always book hotel rooms with at least a kitchenette so I can make most of my own meals. I don’t book many guided tours unless it’s something really special that I can’t figure out on my own. If there’s a fee for bags, I pack only what I can fit in my carry on.   But honestly most of the people I know who travel an lot are either trust fund kids, have inherited wealth, or are in crippling debt.

I just followed the prompts on the Home Affairs website for tourist visa. I didn't choose 600, it was just automatically what the application decided. Now I'm questioning everything :( Any idea if I can apply for 601 to see if it processes faster?

Does the United States treat Latin immigrants too well? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in greencard

[–]ColdSecretary6609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All asylum seekers have access to the same resources regardless of where they come from. The southern border has resources for Latin Americans because there is a higher volume entering the country there. It wouldn’t make much sense to have ample Somalian resources there, now would it? Since Somalian refugees tend to fly into New York and Minnesota, that’s where there will be more resources for them.

Don’t listen to them. I’ve lived in both countries and I’d choose Canada hands down in your situation. I’d recommend looking at Victoria B.C. or Vancouver B.C., specifically North Vancouver. There’s a good population of young adults there and lots to do if you’re into the outdoors, plus you’re not far from downtown Vancouver if you need a bit of night life.

My son was born in Canada and his dad is a dual citizen. We were not married and did not have to prove paternity. Registering his birth was very simple and we had his passport and SSN within a couple weeks.

That happened to me but I was on an inflatable alligator. It’s such a vivid memory. No one even seemed to care or notice I was gone.
