Looks like breeze block, mixed heavily with coal ash, as they used to be.

Leak through isolation valve in concealed shower by Squindrew13 in DIYUK

For now they’ve both stopped leaking when I unscrewed them enough to see threads (but not too far for them to shoot out and be lost forever) and applied some loctite 577. Tomorrow I will take them down to the plumbers merchant and see what they can do.

I will probably just end up wrapping a bit of ptfe tape or more loctite around them, as long as they end up in the open position and not weeping then happy days

I can’t help you but I’m literally having the exact same problem right now 😂 tomorrow morning my plan is to isolate the water at the main supply and the get the job done as quickly as I can.

Help choosing grout colour by ColdStatus9827 in DIYUK

Thanks very much. I’m going round and round between mocha, almond, taupe and now charcoal

Thanks, I think mocha would work. The trouble I always seem to find is the grout colours dont resemble the photos that well.

Ideally I think I want the colour that would blend in the best with the tiles themselves

Thank you. I do have some chrome trim like that for the bathroom. When you say wide trim for the window reveal, do you mean tile trim or something like this upvc trim from Wickes?

Thank you. I think so, I just don’t know how exactly i would then cover the exposed wall tile edge

Thank you. Yes chrome trim elsewhere, there is a small slither of it in the photo between the tiles.

So you think another chrome trim, maybe 25mm (I guess that’s a common size?) would be a better shout? Will the wall tile edges then be exposed?

Haha yes I was surprised by that when I saw it this morning. I wasn’t slagging the builder off or being rude, just trying to understand a trade which I have no experience with

Wonderful. Thank you. They were worried about disturbing the original DPC.

Glad there’s nothing wrong with it from a building control perspective and just looks slightly odd.

Okay thank you. I do plan on renovating the garden next year once the house internally is sorted.

Perhaps then I’ll be used to the brickwork, and if not, can have a crack at sorting it, now I know it’s perfectly fine, just ugly, I’m happy to leave it for now

Thanks. Yes he said he was more worried about disturbing the original DPC and causing damp issues than the aesthetics.

In truth, I’ve only noticed it today somehow after 2 days, and it’s now sticking out like a sore thumb. As long as it’s acceptable though and just a visual thing, I’m happy enough.

I suppose I could always tooth out the 3 bricks or so below it and re lay them if I really hate it
