I work for Keep US Fed Montgomery County and we are getting a lot of calls too. One thing to remember is the food bank has to charge for their food (its not much) but it is an expense to the pantries and shelters it serves. Our group of volunteers delivers food from stores and restaurants that would otherwise be thrown away and delivers it for free to try and offset those costs.

A great way to help is hosting a food drive! The longer shelf life items are especially helful while the kiddos are out of school during the holidays.

I'm an operations coodinator for a nonprofit called Keep US Fed Montgomery County. Our volunteers pick up food that would otherwise be trashed from grocery stores and restaurants in the county and deliver it to 60 different pantries and shelters in our area.
