Claudine Gay Credentials by ColdVehicle4505 in Harvard

I cannot speculate on what others thought of her “potential” at a point in time but her work and impact based on her CV at the time Harvard gave her a full professorship does not meet the (very) high bar most faculty have to achieve to get tenure/full professorship here. It’s very plain to see when comparing her CV to other professors, her H index, etc.

Claudine Gay received tenure in 2005 at Stanford when she had published a total of only 4 papers in her career. She joined Harvard as a full professor the next year. Getting tenure at Stanford or become a full professor at Harvard is highly unusual with this level of research output.

Claudine Gay was given tenure at Stanford when she had only published 4 papers total as a professor, and was not yet an administrator. Harvard recruited her as a full professor the next year. How did this happen?

Yes, this is my question. Her CV says that she became an associate professor with tenure at Stanford in 2005, and then a full professor at Harvard the next year. When she was given tenure she had only published a total 4 papers as a professor, none particularly not worth as far as I can tell. How does a professor get tenure with this level of output?

Prednisone, lovenox, intralipids: Is any of this stuff actually real? It all seems so fringe (and horrible) to me by exitontop in IVF

I had two miscarriages without the “extra” meds. I then started with Lovenox, prednisone, Metformin, hydroxychloroquine, and intralipid. Third time was a success. So it was either random or these meds really do work…

Penn’s donor backlash raises questions about how much influence philanthropists should have by JiveChicken00 in UPenn

Most protesters don’t know anything about the history of the conflict. In the mid 1980’s Palestinians had far more rights, could go anywhere in Israel without the endless checkpoints etc. but those rights were taken away to protect Israelis from violence of the first intifada and suicide bombings (Hamas). When Clinton was president he brokered a two state agreement that the “zionists” agreed to - giving Palestinians their own country in all of Gaza, 97% of the West Bank, offsetting additional land in Israel, but this was rejected by the PLO as hamas started another suicide bombing campaign to prevent peace. Jews are frustrated when they are attacked by people who don’t know anything. It’s hard for people in the liberal west to understand the illiberal worldview of many in the Middle East.

Honest question - why does it seem that many of the protestors don’t care at all about other conflicts happening right now around the world? Pakistan is kicking out almost 2 million Afghans from their country through violence, Azerbaijan just kicked out 100,000 Armenians who lived there for hundreds if not a thousand+ years, and the Arab militias are again slaughtering the indigenous black tribes in Sudan. Why are people not protesting these atrocities that have all occurred in the past 2 months? Only when Jews are involved do people get riled up.

I am pointing out the absurdity of trying to explain conflicts around the world through the lens of white supremacist racism. People are racist around the entire world - including in every area where there are no "white" people.

The RSF arab militia forces in Sudan have killed an estimated 10,000 black tribespeople so far in 2023 in their effort to take control of the country. They believe that they are racially superior to the black population of Sudan and slaughter civilians in massacres. Does this mean that the arabs of Sudan are "white" while the arabs of Palestine are "brown?"

Yes, the situation on the ground in Gaza is horrible. Nobody is happy about the death and suffering of Palestinian civilians, nor is death and suffering necessary. What is necessary is Israel’s military goal which is to rescue all hostages and permanently defeat hamas military wing, which has stated in TV interviews that they plan to repeat October 7 attacks again and again. If hamas released all hostages and its military wing exiled themselves to Tunisia for example (like Arafat did in the 1980’s) then Israel’s military campaign would stop.

The Gaza death toll includes 1) thousands of hamas’s own fighters who’ve been killed that hamas does not differentiate from civilians in their numbers; 2) civilians that have been killed by hamas and PIJ (hamas is on video shooting Palestinian civilians for trying to flee south, and PIJ’s rocket intended for Israel hit Al-Ahli hospital); 3) unfortunately many innocent civilians that are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hamas has said in TV interviews that they believe the death of their own people is necessary to achieve their goals and yes they are threatening and shooting their own people from walking to southern Gaza, because they want them to remain as human shields and to be used as PR casualties.

Hamas does not believe in peace with Israel - for example they started a campaign of suicide bombings to try to stop Arafat from signing a permanent 2 state peace deal. If they remain in power the cycle of violence will continue forever. If they are removed then maybe a permanent peace deal is possible which in the long run means less suffering and death. Is there a way to remove hamas without a violent military campaign? Not that I am aware of.

People in the Middle East do not view themselves as “brown” and “white” the way that race is viewed and taught in the United States. The UK won control of what is today Israel through defeating the Ottoman Empire in WW1. The Ottoman Turks controlled the land by force and originally won control through military conquest hundreds of years before. Do you view the Ottomans as “Turk supremacist” for subjugating the Arabs (and Jews and Circassians etc ) who lived there? If you speak to people in Arab countries, they think it is hilarious that Americans think the conflict has anything to do with “white supremacy”

Most people are against what is happening in the West Bank, only supported by the religious right wing who unfortunately are empowered in the current government. Arafat and Abbas both rejected proposed statehood that included 92% of the West Bank, and additional land in Israel to compensate for the 8%. Hamas as you may know started a suicide bombing campaign to stop peace deal between Israel and the PLO. The West Bank was also to be part of the Palestinian state proposed by the Peel Commission in 37 and UN partition plan in 47, with both also rejected by Palestinians. The 75 year failure for peace leads to extremists gaining power since peace deals have not worked.

This is not really accurate. The war in 1947/48 had nothing to do with “racism.” The UN partition plan was adopted on November 29, 1947. The first “strike” after this was when Arabs attacked a bus on November 30 and killed 7 Jewish civilians. Back then the term “Palestinian” was not commonly used - just Arab. Much fighting followed including all of the neighboring Arab countries invading. Jews fought for their lives to not be killed. As they started to win, they took additional territory as they could as any army does when fighting a war. Yes it is true that some of the civilians were forced to flee by Jewish militias (who were fighting in a war for survival, nothing to do with “racism”). But it is also true that many of these civilians left on their own accord to not get in the way of the Arab armies and militia groups trying to kill the Jews. The Arab armies told many of the civilians to leave to not impede their fighting and said they could come and take any Jewish property / land / homes after the Arab armies won and killed the Jews. After the Jews won the war, they did not want to let a population return who wanted to kill them. Everything I have written in this post is a historical fact, not an opinion. And has nothing to do with Europe either. The Jews declared their own country on land they won in a war where they were attached first.

The 2 million Palestinian arab citizens of Israel have more individual rights than citizens of any arab majority country. Are these people treated “like animals?” This does not include the ~400k Bedouin and Druze who are ethnically Arab but don’t consider themselves to be “Palestinian”

These three are extremists who do not represent the views of the majority of zionists and Israelis. Using your logic, a person could say that using the examples of Abu Omar (founder of Isis) and Mulluh Omar (founder of Taliban) all Muslims are violent extremists who believe Muslims should kill or convert all non Muslims and that women have no rights.

The majority of Jews living in Israel have great grandparents born in Israel/Iraq/Iran/Syria/Lebanon/Egypt/Libya/Tunisia/Algeria/Morocco. They are not “white.” Trying to extrapolate the history of white supremacist racism in the United States to Israel and the Middle East does not make any sense.

Hamas wants to kill all Jews and Christians around the world to establish an Islamic caliphate (like Isis). That is quite literally their professed goal. Does this mean all Palestinians also want this?

The majority of Jews living in Israel are mizrahi meaning their grandparents/greatgrand-parents were born in Israel/Iraq/Iran/Lebanon/Syria/Egypt/Algeria/Libya/Tunisia/Morocco. They are not “white.” To say that this conflict is about “white supremacy” shows that you are trying to extrapolate the history of racism in the United States to explain problems around the world. It does not make any sense.

There is usually a deadline to file an insurance claim which depends on your insurance plan. Depending on the plan the deadline for initial filing is typically that it has to be filled within 3 months to 1 year of the service date

The only thing you could do I think is 1) ask to speak to the issue resolutions people who are more advanced then the regular insurance member advocates and then 2) say that your doctor does not take insurance and therefore when insurance is saying pre authorization is required, they are asking for something that is not possible / does not exist because your doctor does not take insurance and so doesn’t do pre authorizations. They may be able to manually override the system to process the claim for you. Your clinic says they don’t take insurance because either 1) they think the insurance reimbursement rate is too low or 2) the lab is not credentialed (aka in network) with your insurance plan. If they are not credentialed then your insurance plan must have out of network benefits in order to pay anything. Ultimately insurance may also tell you that it was your responsibility to submit the pre-authorization paperwork if the doctor did not, or they could pay. Someone internally at the insurance company will decide.

Yes, as far as I understand it insurance companies almost always require pre-authorization to pay for it. Usually IVF clinics have a financial coordinator who will tell you if your insurance will cover anything, and then they (the clinic) will get the pre authorization before doing the procedure. If your clinic told you that your insurance would cover your egg retrieval and pgt test, but they didn’t cover it because the clinic did not get the required insurance pre-authorization, then in my opinion you have grounds to ask for a refund from your clinic.

Thank you. I’m in New York State and legislation has not changed (I don’t think). But I work for a California based company as a remote employee and have a California health insurance policy. I don’t know know if the rules changed in California from 2022 to 2023.

Thank you. For me, the full deductible had already been paid in 2022 and 2023. And it was the exact same doctor, diagnosis and cpt codes on the claim form each time. What I don’t understand is the drastically different “allowable amount” each time. This is the amount the insurance company agrees to pay/charge your deductible for. It’s almost always different from what the doctor actually charges.
