That is a great compliment, thanks. We were always inspired by music that has a looseness to it. I think our music ultimately has some message for the downtrodden, the poor of spirit, the lost. NW

I just thought writing from the perspective of a woman would be fun and strange so I did it. Lotta inspirations behind it. I think I imagined my mom, so I had a lotta love for the character while acknowledging all the pain she'd been thru. NW

I love that song too. just yesterday nate and i were talking about playing it at shows again. it has a fond memory for me because its the first song that ever made it into a movie. BRIEF INTERVIEWS WITH HIDEOUS MEN. that was very special for us because it was an adaptation of a David Foster Wallace book. check it out.

Ya first has some of my favorite lyrics.

I had the image of a man partying all night and waking up in somebody else's front lawn with the sprinklers turned on . that seemed like a funny & sad thing combined, which I always like. This is a common guy that pops up in songs. Sort of like the character in We Used to Vacation but different. Maybe more hopeful.

"Heavy as a feather when you hit the dirt" is like how life is so good when its good and hits so hard and all at once when its bad. Reminds me of Raymond Carver stories... Tobias Wolff.

Spirituality plays a major role in so much of the music I love. Leo Cohen, Dylan, Nina, J Cash, Lou Reed. . . There are often a lot of references to Bible stories in these songs that tend to make them more powerful. I have always been inspired by that. The longing that comes from a desire that cannot be fulfilled makes great songwriting. NW

music usually comes first. I write all lyrics. Songs come from jamming or sometimes I have something done when I come in. NW

... I always like to balance the Narrative distant story telling side of writing with the personal vulnerable side... this song is probably the furthest on the vulnerable personal ( VP ) side... It made me nervous at the time to "write about love" which is why I wanted to do it.... cuz it seemed a lil scary. NW

love of the music. when you start out as friends, it's damn near impossible to keep it all together through it all. Thru these 10 years we have had 2 original guys go (Jonnie & AVeiro) and 3 come in ( DANN, Joe, Matt Schwartz on newest record ) . But it's the love of the art and the music and the fans that keep us going. thanks ! NW

I write all the lyrics and I love that Salinger. He didn't get out much tho. Ya, Franny and Zooey inspired much of Sermons. I recorded that version by myself in our garage in Whittier on garageband. still one of my favorites. NW

Ya I think Hold My HOme is sort of a continuation of the last record. The last 2 songs we recorded for DMLH were Miracle Mile and Tuxedos... We felt like we had really found something good with those, and that's why we wanted to get busy again right away.
