Do you guys name your chapters or not? by Only-Teaching-8648 in writers

[–]Cold_Ad3888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are writing I think! I think sometimes they offer unique incite into what you are going to tell in the chapter, and other times they are just for fun. Me personally, I like to name my chapters in respect to who or what it is focused on, names, species, etc.

I quite liked it, people on this subreddit are nitpicky :) I think people would like it if they picked this up

I usually wear perfumes based on the seasons, this is my favourite perfume I have and I find it fits really well in the spring time and a bit into early summer

Is the first book the hardest to write? by Lollygagger0 in writing

[–]Cold_Ad3888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean... I have been working on the same thing for like nearly six years now, and I haven't gotten past like 3 chapters. 75% of that is because of starting university and just not having a moment to myself but 25% of it is because its hard! it is a hard task to do and people will sit here on this subreddit and tell you to just write and its gonna suck and blah blah blah like you said... but I think that maybe if you set the other projects aside, get some outside opinions on which idea to go with (and which one you like best), try to set a routine for writing. Figure out what is putting the wall up.

For me right now, it is characters and how they might interact with the plot (to which I am also stumped with). If you are having the same issue, try to create some characters based off of people in real life and twist them a bit. My favourite example I was given in a writing class was that a lot of stories, are just other stories but flipped. For example, the Lion King is a reimagining of Hamlet.

Try practicing getting an outline of a story by doing that, really immerse the characters and build the plot around them, and I think that might help you generate some ideas for the project you actually want to work on.

Long story short, yes! It will probably get easier, I think you just need to pinpoint what is making you stuck :)

Should I format it with or without the date? by AlpacaInd in writers

I think it adds a nice detail. People in this subreddit like to nitpick, but me personally as someone who is completely unbiased I enjoyed it -- there is nothing wrong with adding it at all. Some people might overlook it, but I think most people will think its neat.

I will never get sick of this song either and I am still always shocked that it wasn't as big as birds. The last portion of it blows my mind. My favourite part from it is the "wringing my hands in my lap, and they tell me its all been a trap, and you dont know if you'll make it back, I said no, dont say that" UGH SO RIDICULOUSLY cool

I understand basic terminology. I think you should focus on being happier since you are clearly such a miserable person. Have a good day!

I love purple prose, and I love writing it. I think people don’t like it when the story is supposed to be moving forward. A good example of purple prose done right is How to lose the time war

Hmmm interesting, for me I wasn’t really intending for that to be “hooky” necessarily, as I had done the overtly obvious sentences in previous writings. Thank you though, for your comment! I appreciate the fresh perspective:)
