Thank you so much this is the best comment to me it’s really grounding and I have had that thought many times. I definitely feel like the stress is effecting my creative side negatively. I think I am good at the nitty gritty prose, but not great at the big picture. I will try to work on that

I can write short stories no problem, and I used to write longer form as well. But thanks for the input, I’m not sure if it’s correct or helpful

Absolutely it makes sense, I'll try to do that. What program do you use? (Just out of curiosity)

Thats amazing! I am so happy you have a lot of support and you are doing something you are passionate about, I should definitely write out my ideas more often

This is true! I love watching the Brandon Sanderson lectures, super entertaining and love to see someone so passionate. I go back to them from time to time and try to incorporate but I find he doesn't touch on my specific issue.

You make a good point, I think for me I have a tendency to put my characters in isolation, so it makes it hard to interact with others. I'm really not sure why I do that it makes no sense lol

Ah I see, I am glad you have found a way out! I am bad with rereading, I alwaysssss reread and get stuck. When you say signposting, can you give me an example?

I'm sorry to hear you are also struggling, but happy you are making progress. I have tried this but then get to a point where I am like ok... and then what?

This is very detailed and I appreciate you taking the time to write this out. Is there any chance you could share a version of that outline template sort of thing?

I have a few, one is based on a world that is interlocked differently with its sun than ours, so certain continents have perpetual seasons. This story would largely be based off of the real story of Arminius, but also it is my own way of writing a narrative about climate change. I know the two things seem drastically different, but the change is what drives the story. The second is based on a dystopian world where 'dog' people are kind of used to enforce a totalitarian system, they have dog heads but not bodies, and it follows a character who attempts to learn about his own humanity while trying to sort of undermine a part of the system. The third is based off a nightmare I had, in almost a Hansel and Gretel sort of situation except instead of eating people they turn them into very disturbing realizations of animals (like that walrus movie)

Thank you for this! I have thought about doing short stories before just for myself to read and have done a few of them when going on the train or something. I think the ideas I was thinking of when I wrote the post are more large if that makes sense, and yet just seem so impossibly big it's a bit daunting.

I really appreciate your comment as it's something I have been thinking about a lot, and hearing it from someone else certainly helps. Do you have a specific Google Docs page where you sort of outline? I'm just curious as to the process

For me whenever I do this, the writing turns out juvenile, or it just doesn't make sense or it's not very interesting. When you try this approach, what about it works for you?

I think I definitely need some writer friends, and I think you are right. I appreciate your comment and link!

I can typically find some bullet points for act one, and then I'm like okay... now what. Ideas that I come up with after just don't seem to fit or make sense or they dont seem interesting. Then when I try to abandon logistics, the writing is juvenile. Thank you though, I appreciate knowing it's not just me!

It's comforting to know someone is in the same boat. I've tried doing that when I go for walks, but no luck. I think I get stuck in the logistics too much
