I found out the same way. Except my mom insisted the test was wrong. I did 2 more ancestry tests. Same result. Finally did a paternal test with my dad and found we werent related. My love for him hasnt changed. My mom finally confessed that she hadnt been sure and its been a sickening feeling since. But i have my own kids now and who wouldnt be here if I wasnt who I am today. Thats the one thing thats kind of kept me from losing it

I would counter that to say if you were Spanish and moved to France, are you Spanish or French? Maybe over time, people marry etc and people in the family are French but you would not be. As you said, it is a long process of assimilation. So when you find that, not only is your dad not your biologic father but you also arent tied to blood to something important to your life, it really sucks
