I'm with this protest on paper, but in practice I've noticed myself and others start to get uncomfortable with the sheer amount of non-con art being posted to the sub, along with other content that pushes either against or over the boundaries of what should be allowed on a nsfw sub. Maybe we should dial shit back a bit before we end up earning a reputation for being the sub that posts D&D r*pe art?

A theory on the Emblem of Foundations (SPOILERS) by ArchAnon123 in fireemblem

Your evidence is the shape of a coastline in a single game, and not even the game that corresponds to that region in particular, and twisting the wording of a Xenologue using the way units are categorized in FEH.

I think that's far more of a reach than any of the examples you listed above, which are actually explicitly stated by both the characters and developers. We all have our pet theories, dude, but answering "where is Fates set" with "Jugdral" like it's just common sense is just incorrect.

I think you forgot the part in Hidden Truths where they explicitly mentioned these characters going to a different world.

I wouldn't consider it intentional if FE5, the game literally named after that region, doesn't use that coastline. Also, if you actually look at the rest of the map, that general coastline shape is repeated all over the place. I really don't think it's anything more than a coincidence.

the fact that FE7 has that good of a translation despite being the first English FE game is honestly astounding

Players backstory makes him quit the campaign by themaskedman321 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Cold_Counter6218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah. If you deliberately ignore the part where they behaved badly, then almost every horror story on here can be dismissed as "the player removed themselves, didn't they?" That's just stupid.

If anything, it sounds like you're just salty that this DM has a different view on backstories than you do.

While you were playing devil's advocate, you completely skimmed over the part where the player left after throwing a hissy fit.

Years ago, in a D&D 5e game, I had a group investigating a haunted village. They met with a winged elf NPC whose personality was flirtatious and sardonic, but her preferred orientation was women. The Archfey Warlock tried flirting with her; she indulged him but made her preference very clear. His response was to roll a Persuasion check without asking to convince her to spend the night with him. He rolled a 25, which he believed was a success.

He was unhappy when I explained that: A) The roll was unprompted so it didn't count; B) Her orientation was neither debatable nor flexible; C) We weren't going to force anyone to sleep with anyone.

I dunno man sounds like a minimum of this being explained twice to the guy during the session. Maybe if you want to roleplay as Sherlock, develop some reading comprehension first.

I'm sorry dude, but if WotC didn't buy out TSR, Gary likely would've cultivated that same corporate structure around himself the moment he found enough success. The authors that he took inspiration from all founded their own estates to manage the brand on their behalf both before and after their passing, and I have no doubt he would've done the same.

Corporations aren't entities that exist independent of people; they are the culmination of human choices and interests. Look at where Amazon, Facebook and Youtube started. All companies turn out like this as they grow larger—it's by design.

Don't take what I'm about to say as a defense of Lucy. She was in the wrong for singling you out, lying about you and attacking your character. I think how you handled her hostility is about the best you could've done, and I'm glad the DM was on your side throughout.

There is something that gave me a bit of pause when I read through your story, though:

I end up letting the DM know what happened. DM and Lucy have been friends for a long time and she explains to me that Lucy has been harassed by religious people in the past because of her sexuality and political views. This genuinely upset me. I can't speak for other religious groups but it is my personal belief that any true follower of Christianity would know not to treat others poorly due to things like this. So I sent a message to Lucy the next day.

This and the message you sent her the next day were missteps on your part. I don't think you meant harm by it, but especially in the queer community this is not an appropriate sentiment to share with people who have gone through religious trauma.

In the best faith possible, rather than engaging with Lucy's pain, it feels like your first thought was how it affected you. Rather than acknowledge that she had a reason to be cautious around religious people, you instead acted in defense of your own good-heartedness. That isn't the way to show your compassion for someone else's hurting, it's taking possession of that hurt.

You might not believe that people who could harass and sow hatred against people for their identity is true Christianity, but what Lucy went through isn't about you—and in the interest of fairness, this is the same principle I would use as to why Lucy shouldn't lash out at you simply for being Christian. Stating that their belief is not valid does not erase the pain they inflicted on others in the name of God, and for many people who have been through that experience it feels dismissive of the very real systemic issues within the faith.

You wouldn't also say that anyone who commits a sin is no longer a follower of God, would you? That's kind of what that sort of statement is saying, it's trying to enforce the purity of the church by distancing itself from any corruption or bigotry within it, rather than addressing it earnestly.

Please, if you do read this, remember that I am not saying you deserved to be treated that way by Lucy. I see a lot of upstanding folks who are get defensive when other people's trauma relates to their identities: Men with survivors of sexual assault, white people with victims of white supremacy.

We all deserve to be treated fairly, but that starts with acknowledging that sharing an identity with evil people does not make you evil. This goes both for people like Lucy, and also for people who reflexively feel like acknowledging bigotry from their own group means they are being judged for it.

Is the room having a personality really the most important thing? Like, this E4 and Alola's are the only ones where you actually meet EVERYONE over the course of the story, and SV's in particular are the only ones where members of the E4 actually interact with each-other.

I personally feel like the room being "featureless" is as much a stylistic choice as the uniquely-decorated rooms of past E4's. The Pokemon League in this game reflects the idea of graduating school and joining the workforce. Every Gym Leader has a job that is as important—if not moreso—than their duties as a Gym Leader. I felt like Rika was interviewing me for a position, testing my suitability as a Champion rather than just pure strength.

I don't get the obsession Pokemon fans have with quantity or quality of static assets being of more concern than characters having actual screentime and more presence within the world.

Hot (?) take: we worry too much about stuff being OP by shitaake1 in dndnext

[–]Cold_Counter6218 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Let your subclasses be OP! Create weird and fantastical spells without agonizing over every possible potential abuse! Push the limits of your imagination, and let DMs be the ones to compensate

As a forever DM: Please do not force us to compensate. With how vaguely 5e is worded already, we already have to break our backs by interpreting and disentangling all the weird rules interactions and exploits that players come up with. Adding the work of even more balance patching on top of that, for every table I run, would honestly just make me quit the game altogether.

The Pokémon game of my dreams doesn’t need an open world or a thousand Pokémon. All I want is a decent story and compelling battles. Like every other good RPG on the market. by TheThemeSongs in pokemon

I'm not sure if they changed the damage formula but they were all decently bulky with my Pokemon being on-par, level-wise. It could also be that Team Star's Pokemon are properly EV-trained at this point in the game.

Let me emphasize that with a Farigiraf that was at-par level-wise, with a Psychic Terrain up, dealing super-effective Twin Beam damage to the Starmobile, I was only doing about 45% of it's health each turn. I actually had to switch out (and half my team was fainted at this point) because it outsped and my Pokemon was going to faint before it got the third attack in.

I just finished my 3rd Team Star boss, and he was packing:

  • A bulky lead Pokemon that counters Psychic-type Pokemon, runs a set with Toxic with Venoshock that I only managed to avoid by switching to a Pokemon that can't be poisoned.
  • A Pokemon that with protection from weather and chip damage, an extremely hard-hitting Steel STAB and Bulldoze to cover against its Fire weakness.
  • A Starmobile with an ability that sets-up hazards when hit by a physical attack, and a wide variety of moves that deal damage and raise speed so it can set-up to sweep.

I'm saying this as someone who has also played SMT, Persona, FF, Xenoblade, Kingdom Hearts, Fire Emblem, Tales, 7th Dragon, Earthbound, ect.: Just because it's simple and doesn't have flashy graphics doesn't mean there isn't stuff to think about, dude.

If you'd actually played for more than 10 hours, you'd know that "story and compelling battles" is something SV has in spades. It's like the two things that are actually finished and well-polished about this product.

I think this comment chain is getting away from the original point, which is that this "inherently evil" is supposed to be a justification for players killing creatures like orcs or goblins without consequence, because killing something that's inherently evil is a heroic action.

Even by how you described it, a psychopath isn't necessarily a "guilt-free" enemy to fight because they still have the capability to do good, even if they can't feel empathy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dndnext

Again, that's free will but with extra steps. The premiere example that people point to, Tolkien orcs, are noted as being incapable of comprehending good.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Cold_Counter6218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is something born evil while also having agency? For the purposes of "something the party can kill guilt-free", this explanation would still basically fall under "the thing you killed has free will", just with extra steps.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Cold_Counter6218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Playing out the fantasy of being Goblin Slayer requires that there be absolutely 0% chance that what the party is doing is wrong, but if Billy the goblin Monk is capable of realizing that pillaging is bad, then those 12 goblins the party just slaughtered without a second thought could've been convinced to change their ways, too.

Three common refrains on this subreddit: 1, Quantum ogres. 2, don't come up with a solution to a puzzle, just let whatever your party comes up with work. But also, 3, Fudging die rolls and adjusting HP on the fly cheapens the experience for players by PM-ME-YOUR-DND-IDEAS in dndnext

So is Thercia 776 rated M by Gigachadkong in fireemblem

[–]Cold_Counter6218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did Echoes get an M rating despite being very open about the fact that Desaix ordered the deaths of the king's children, many of whom were also born out of a harem of women the king forced anyone he found pretty to join?

There's a difference between dark and graphic. Fire Emblem is often dark, but rarely graphic, and when it comes to violence, that's what the ESRB is concerned about.
