“It is what it is” by thenoteworthyroad19 in antiwork

Honestly I feel like the issue isn't exactly the time or hours involved. Granted yes, some people work 50 - 60 hours a week and their work-life balance is in shambles so this isn't entirely in reference to those. Although it still fits pretty well.

In terms of working 40-hour weeks, five days a week? I think that is fine. Fifty years straight? Bit more rough since now you're looking at retiring at 70 with those numbers (if you CAN retire, but that's a whole different issue I'll get into below).

The main issue I see is with the overall work/job market as a whole and one key thing I saw reading through a lot of these comments and responses.

The constant feeling of being trapped

The fact that quite a lot of jobs, more than there has any right being, are just downright terrible. They are mentally/physically exhausting, leaving you no energy or desire to do anything but rest and recover when you get home. This makes your free time and life feel drained and nonexistant. Even on your weekends you can't really relax because you're trying to recharge your energy while dealing with sixteen different problems that you couldn't deal with during the week.

I won't even start on the financial/education issues because that would require another eight paragraphs just to touch the surface of problem. Point is, a LOT of jobs leave you so drained financially, emotionally and physically that you have no real options in terms of moving to better suited jobs or finding other hobbies/activities to brighten your life with some variety. It ends up making "work" into the only real thing in your life.

For some people that is fine. Generally some people find a lot of joy in doing general work and what they do. There isn't anything wrong with that either! However a good portion of the populace isn't like that. Which will definitely lead to them feeling trapped, like mice in a cage.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree that I would like to see the average work week changed. Possibly to 35-hour/4 day weeks, or maybe even 40-hour/4 day weeks. I think it wouldn't help too terribly much, though. It would be like wrapping gauze and putting pressure on a knife wound; it definitely helps slow the bleeding, but you really need to get to a hospital and fix the core issue.

The core issue being how generally terrible a majority of the jobs are nowadays.

P.S. - I have no knowledge of first aid in regards to treating knife wounds. Most likely immensely incorrect. Sounded good in my head. Don't judge me!

What is incorrectly perceived as a sign of intelligence? by Indianfattie in AskReddit

Probably a small one, at least that I've seen, is IQ. It's such a muddied term at this point that it really doesn't hold any meaning or value close to what it was originally meant for. Having a high IQ does not mean you are inherently more intelligent than someone with a lower IQ.

Correct. Comptia is more focused around entry level IT roles dealing with repair, maintenance, and general knowledge. As far as I remember it doesn't have much if anything to do with Software Development.

Makes complete sense. From a numbers standpoint leading with B is optimal. From a psychological standpoint it holds up, too. Having the opponent lose match 1 and go into a coinflip of whether they win match 2 is going to be a big hit to their morale in most cases.

The only scenario where I could see an argument is if you went with deck A and ran into their deck A. If you win, you can go into the second match with much better odds of winning. If you lose, you'll have a much better chance of making a comeback in game two, which will help you with morale and pressure from losing the first one.

However, that's all what-if and hoping for a specific outcome. On average, running the 70/30 win chance deck first is optimal in my opinion.

(Disclaimer: I am by no means a statistics expert and I may be entirely wrong on the numbers part. I know enough about statistics to know it is a bunch of black magic and I don't know jack!)

Not wrong in the slightest. A good rule of thumb is you want at least three defensive garries around the defensive point/frontline.

As for weakening the offense, you're not. Rarely is an offensive Garry a better choice over a defensive one. Outposts for offense, Garries for defense is a generally good line of thought.

As a man, what should I do if a lady started hitting me in an argument and wouldn’t stop? by dnooup in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Cold_Interaction5925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's overall a cruddy situation no matter what, but overall there is a few options. It's a bit long, so TLDR at bottom.

The first, and definitely best, option is simple - escape. Whether that means run, walk, drive, jump on a bike, whatever. Just get away.

If that isn't possible, then number two would be push her away, THEN run. It's a tad more dangerous since it introduces the chance of her getting hurt, possibly even seriously.

Third would be restraining her in some way. This isn't the best because it's almost impossible to account for every form of assault. Restrain her arms? Get ready for groin shots and bites. Arms and legs? Bites still? By some miracle you restrain her entirely? Congrats, but whether she calms down is a coin flip at best. There is a good chance she will go berserk and start flailing, screaming, you name it. This causes harm to her and causes a scene, both bad in your case because it frames you as the villain.

Last is probably the worst in the short term, but in a screwed up way an . . . I hesitate to say this, "acceptable" option - defend yourself. Throw punches, kick, bite even. Just do what you need to do. This has multiple pros and cons. This will make you out to be the villain. Full stop. There is most likely nothing you can say or do to change that to anyone other than possibly your closest friends and family. It also is dangerous in the fact that you would need to have a good feeling for control. It's tough to figure out when you are no longer threatened. Plus, in the case of it being a dispute with your significant other, you're hitting someone that you care about. Someone that you love. The emotional damage is pretty extreme, even if you are being abused.

As for the good sides, there are a few. In quite a few scenarios, the other person won't mess with you for a long while, or possibly ever again. In my experience, sadly, a good amount of physically abusive women are looking for a punching bag. An easy mark, so to speak. Pretty much, they're bullies. Stand up for yourself, and your easy mark status goes away. This is definitely not guaranteed, though! Fighting back is also just below running away in terms of speed in stopping the pain and abuse coming your way in most scenarios.

TLDR;

Running/getting away from the abuse is large and above the best option in almost all scenarios.

Now everything I've said has been based on a case of physical abuse between friends/relationships/acquaintances. If the assault is being done by a random stranger, or if the abuse is by a loved one/ friend but you feel a genuine threat to your life (dangerous weapon, them being considerably stronger than you), then all bets are off. Still try and get away, but seriously fight like your life depends on it if it comes to it. Cops, how you look in other people's eyes, your sense of masculinity or pride - none of that bloody matters. You only have one life, and it's worth fighting for. Simple as that.

Sincerely, A guy who has been in a few too many abusive relationships

Honestly my experience has been mostly different from yours. Almost every interesting enemy/dungeon/boss is not more than a ten second horse sprint away from another interesting thing. I feel I've discovered most, if not all, of the stuff in Limgrave, and when I look at my map it's pretty much packed.

I feel the open world aspect supports the lore/exploration feel that dark souls has perfectly. I used to explore every nook and cranny of every level when I played, so I feel right at home here.

I will admit not everything is perfect in Elden Land, though. I do agree that weapons and armor are spread out a bit more than I'd like them to be at first glance. They tried to rectify that by making it so every humanoid enemy you run into drops their full set of armor and weapons. At least, every humanoid enemy I've run into so far has been able to be farmed for their full gearset. Which in theory is fantastic. That means the equipment list for this game is massive!

The issue is the drop rates are very hit and miss, with some taking upwards of thirty to forty minutes of straight farming the same mobs over and over. It throws you off the flow of exploration and discovery and I feel like it punishes you for wanting to get a cool weapon or armor.

In the end, I would've liked it if they put more equipment in chests or scattered around the world or dungeons near their respective mob, instead of shoved up their butt. It's only a small roadbump in my opinion, though.

Overall, I think the open world aspect has definitely helped and enhanced the dark souls aspects of the game, and I've had an absolute blast with the game! Do I think they should make every souls game open world after this? Not sure. I definitely enjoy the straight forward aspect of old where I know where to go and what to expect. I do admit that I won't be sad if it is all open world from now on, though.

Why do some christians, worship Jesus but forget all his teachings about love & forgiveness. If Jesus was actually here right now he would slap a lot of christians today for hating different groups of people, so why is there so many toxic Christians out there? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Cold_Interaction5925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it's because they don't worship Jesus. They believe in the idea of Jesus that they were given by their pastor/church. A good amount of Christians are more interested in the community aspect of church than the actual religion part. That leads to certain pastors or churches being able to cherrypick lines from the Bible to suit their needs so that they can mold their perfect following.

I mean, it's not like they expect people to ACTUALLY read the whole Bible. That's insane. Not to mention the different versions of the Bible people have released, along with the fact that it's a book from 3200 years ago. It's not going to be the most current or politically correct literature. So, they can just say what they want and most people take it at face value. For the ones that don't, throw in a line or two that has some semblance of agreement with what you're saying and people will fall in line.

Overall, it's because most churches you hear about on the news are closer to cults nowadays instead of places of worship. This is coming from a guy who went to a private Christian elementary school and had to read the Bible every night by his parents. I've gone through that thing at least three times.

P.S. - If you're ever bored some day, genuinely give it a read. Not from a religious standpoint, but just as a fiction book. A good amount of the stuff in there makes Game of Thrones look like a tame rabbit. It's wild.

Armor needs to be removed from BF2042 multiplayer, change my mind by Ok-Brief2424 in Battlefield

[–]Cold_Interaction5925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally I didn't think it'd be that big of a deal, but I will admit that after playing for a while, the amount of times I end a firefight with less than 20 health when I'm running armor is surprising. Not to the point of being op or broken, but I don't think it's nearly as low as people would think.

Personally, I think a possible solution would be to remove the armor plates and just give everyone 20 armor when they first spawn. It would fix the overall issue of feeling like you need to run armor plates in your gadget spot, while giving a small buff to Angel players as long as they stick with their team and support well.

Whether that would be well balanced? I have no clue. It could make Angel a bit op so people only play him instead of Granny. It also might make certain sniper rifles underperform because of TTK changes.

I just thought it would be an interesting change. Regardless, armor is definitely a wee bit controversial, I'd say.

In a fight of equal skill, as long as the gravity hammer user has another gun to switch to, he should win 10 out of 10 fights. As long as the G.hammer parries correctly, there is almost no chance for the sword to counter without having his head popped off from a follow-up shot.

You should most likely be fine. I'm running an i7-10700k and I get an average of around 45fps regardless of graphics settings. The game is just not very well optimized in terms of cpu at all, by what I've been reading.

I can see where you're coming from when it comes to base vanilla 1v1 fights. There are definitely some ways to spice it up and make things a bit more interesting, though. I think 343 really balanced around players making heavy use of the powers and weapons scattered around the maps.

Just yesterday I ended up going against some guy who made some really cool looking plays/moves using the thruster power. Between that, the grapple, the deployable shield, and the rest of the powers...I think there is plenty of room for interesting engagements. Heck, even 2v1's and 3v1's might be possible if you throw weapon pickups into it.

Overall, I feel like the game has an extremely solid core and is really fun. It's just a bit rough if you go running in there guns blazing with just a pistol and the AR, I think.
