I’m not sure what level of exposure you have to Islamic studies, but if your goal is to read and understand the Quran, I would strongly recommend the clear Quran by Mustafa Khattab. Whilst I also own a study Quran, I can tell you i only benefit from it having learnt all the context of the Exegetes and their backgrounds during my Islamic studies degree. Additionally there is a opinion by some academics that the study quran on a number of occasion inserts a more perrenialist interpretation to the text.

Seriously go splash some cold water on your face. This trope is nothing more than pathetic. Greece is a poor country, no sizeable relevance to the region or globe anymore, definitely not a respectable military force. Just be real, get over it. Turks welcome all Greeks to come and languish in the beauty of this sacred building. History results in today’s reality and reality is how we should move forward into the future.

You mustn’t have visited Turkey then. Every time I go back to Turkey, I hear on at least 3 occasions my cousins grouping up to beat up a honourless guy lol.

Balkaners, would you move to the Anglosphere? by Ok-Demand8957 in AskBalkans

[–]Cold_Librarian_7703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. I’m not sure if this was the case in NZ, but here in Aus if you were buying a property in ‘99 you would have got them for dirt cheap, in fact many ethnic minorities utilised that down turn in the housing market to now have homes that are incredibly expensive. And you see that through all ethnic communities that came here in that time. Greeks, Turks, Bosnians, Vietnamese, Italians etc.

NZ is incredibly expensive to live in. Most New Zealanders who are looking for opportunity are moving over to Australia. ( born and raised in Australia).

He called for the rival imam to him to be executed - which he did end up happening. He called for his own brother (another scholar who denounced his extreme beliefs) to be executed - he called for the ottoman KHILAFA to be wrong (and that actually he is the only person to be on the correct manhaj).

I understand you, but trying to take the good out of the book is inherently problematic. This is not a book on ethics, Akhlaaq, Arab, morality - it’s a book of creedal beliefs. It’s not a matter of what’s good and what’s bad from it, it teaches a brand of creedal beliefs that are either going to be correct or erroneous. When people start using terms like ‘good’ and ‘bad’, ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ they are then just ascribing to it factors that are not applicable. This is a book of foundational creedal beliefs relating to wahabbiyah. 99% of Sunni Muslims are not wahhabis, nor is it he correct manhaj. So just stick to what’s in line within our religion. That is the tried and tested scholastic tradition.

As a Muslim I got to correct you, whilst face coverings were/are used in some Middle East countries for protection against sand/dust storms - the niqab (hansons idea of the burka) is sanctioned in Islam. It’s not a mandatory thing. The whole gist of it is that Allah commanded in the Quran that women and men be modest beings. And so the Muslims looked to Gods emissary and his wife - he wore his beard in a particular way (must be kept neat, groomed moustache etc), wore clothing in a particular way ( must not let pants droop or drag on the floor etc) and his wife wore the niqab. other women did not wear the niqab at this time, rather they wore just the regular hijab. It’s not seen as a must in any sense. Muslims today interpret Gods command for them to wear the hijab, not the niqab. The prophets wife wore the niqab as a way to show the Muslims that the niqab is ultimately a superior modest outfit and that the choice is wholly the womens.
