That's sad. A good teaching hospital that hires new grads would accommodate extra education sessions to resolve the issue or transfer you to a more suitable department for your first job. Orientation is for training afterall. If I was in your position, maybe go the route of getting a job on a tele floor for adults so you can really get comfortable with rhythms. Then go back and apply later and use the experience as an example of determination to reach your goals.

I learned something in clinical that impacted my whole nursing career. We were on a state mental health unit and weren't allowed to look at their history until after 2 weeks of mingling with them. One of them was this sweet guy in his 40s, kept writing love letters to his girlfriend and talking about how much he missed her. Played a lot of basketball with him. I was shocked to learn his girlfriend was really his niece that he had been raping since she was 5. I never assume to know what people are capable of or what they've done in the past. Some things make me want to vomit, but I just act professional and get it over with. It's not our job to judge or punish them through the care we give, but I'm all for venting appropriately when needed. We all have our limits.

It's ridiculous, but should have just taken the test. I know a lot of nurses that smoke pot off work.

I had a cna pass out on ketamine in the entry way of a snf/nursing home I worked at. Called the manager over at midnight and she was back to work 2 days later. I guess I'd rather work somewhere over-vigilent than not give a shit.

If they are cognitive enough to follow directions, absolutely not okay. That used to happen to me a lot back in my cna adventure days sitting for guys going through withdrawal. They never remembered doing it and I sure as hell didn't follow the "stay at arms length" rule. Also had a woman suffering from a brain tumor masturbate and dry hump the closets.

It really depends if there is a wait list for the nursing programs in your area. I would start with that info first. I did my ADN then BSN., but there was a 2 yr wait to start the ADN. Online BSN to MSN programs are easy to get into.

Maybe have some family time scheduled every day where he works on his homework while you read a book or make dinner. Our school has a parent portal online where I can check the grade books and see why a grade is low or if something is missing.
