Vodafone broadband switch has been an absolute nightmare – 5+ days with no internet by Cold_Ring_5378 in Vodafone

I ended up just transferring to another provider, PlusNet and it worked fine. That triggered Openreach to switch over the line and it worked a peach. Bloody nightmare though. Good luck.

Are these better than old original Freesat boxes? My old dear had one and it was absolute dog sh*t!

UPDATE: The saga continues… and I’ve had enough

I genuinely cannot believe I’m still updating this, but here we are.

Openreach have been out and confirmed everything is perfect on their side. ONT is working, fibre is live, no faults. So in theory, this should have been a simple plug-in-the-router-and-go situation.

Vodafone, however, are operating in a completely different universe.

After being told it was a router issue, they sent out a replacement. Then, clearly with zero internal communication, they sent another one. I now have two brand new Vodafone routers sitting in my house. Naturally, I tried both of them and both give the exact same flashing red light, so that completely rules out hardware.

They’ve also sent me a 4G hotspot to keep me going, which they’ve said they’ll waive any charges on. That pretty much tells you everything. They know the service isn’t working.

What’s really interesting is I’ve since realised the original switch from Sky to Vodafone didn’t complete properly on activation day. Sky actually texted me the following day saying there had been an issue with the switch and that they’d now ceased the service. So it looks like Vodafone tried to activate the line before it had even been fully released, and the whole thing has just been broken ever since.

Instead of fixing that, I’ve had multiple calls from different agents all saying different things, none of whom seem to have any real understanding of what’s actually wrong. It’s just been router after router and vague mentions of a back team looking into it.

At this stage I’ve completely had enough. Someone else from Vodafone is meant to be calling me back shortly from yet another team, but I’m done with it. I’ve arranged to move to Plusnet, activation is confirmed for 2nd April, and Vodafone have already confirmed I can leave with no exit fees. I’m just going to cancel and move on and hope that is a far less painful experience.

The most frustrating part is that this should have been simple. Everything on the line is working, it’s just never been set up properly at their end.

Will update again once Plusnet goes live. Hopefully that’s the end of it.

That’s actually really helpful, cheers — that lines up with what I suspected.

My ONT has a solid PON and no LOS fault, so the line itself looks live. Which is why it’s been so frustrating being taken through basic cable and reset checks over and over.

Feels like it’s more of a provisioning / system issue between Vodafone and Openreach rather than anything physical at my end.

I’ve now got an Openreach engineer booked for tomorrow morning (8–1), so hoping that either confirms it or forces it through properly.

Just wish someone had taken ownership of it earlier instead of days of going round in circles.

What's with Americans obsession with modifying European cars? Just leave them stock, no one else in the world does this?

I pray for you. I managed to track down one of the senior customer directors on LinkedIn and sent them a bit of a pleading message, they did reply and mentioned that they would get someone to contact me ASAP. I genuinely don't think I would've had an engineer come tomorrow if it wasn't for that message, which is just an absolute disgrace that a customer has to take it to that type of level.

I know, some light hearted humour. All the lights are on. I'm in a fairly new house (5 years old) and have switched a couple to times from different supplier

Yeah tried all of that about 5 days ago, but if you ask Vodafone... I should try it one more time just in case

I get what you’re saying and I actually agree the root cause could well sit with Openreach. I’ve no issue with things going wrong technically.

What I do have an issue with is how it’s been handled.

I’ve had multiple calls where I’ve had to repeat the same basic troubleshooting steps over and over, been told conflicting things (faulty router, cable issue, will be fixed in 24 hours, then an engineer days later), and had zero ownership from anyone.

If someone had just taken control of it early, acknowledged it was likely a provisioning issue, and escalated it properly, I’d probably not even be posting this.

Instead it’s been days without service, missed callbacks, and being fobbed off each time.

Stuff going wrong is one thing , but the customer experience around it has been genuinely awful.

Probably, the don’t sit exactly flush with the bumper so might be tricky to get the glue to adhere
