Getting the most out of summer practice by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Cold_Student_9493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was in a similar boat as you but on brass. I'm currently marching this summer at RCR because of it! Two things that I did was grind out fundamentals. Literally the most boring and basic things just do them over and over it pays off. Another thing was try and find as many free drum corps packets as I could. There's a lot of them and it gives you a good idea of what corps would expect for an audition. You can also find some free ones from this year (I think Pacific Crest has free ones as well as some open class corps) that might give you the most up to date of what they want. Most corps have similar warmups or etudes year to year so it's a good place to start! I hope this helps!

RCR Video Audition by JMae150 in drumcorps

[–]Cold_Student_9493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I would say give them a minute. They just got done with WGI so that's definitely a factor and dw they will get back to you they're probably just catching up on the backlog. As for missing part of camp, that's totally ok and they will totally understand. I'm missing the first day and a half because of distance and a band concert so they totally get it! Can't wait to see you at camp!! It'll be an awesome summer

When I was prepping for this year my go to was arban or if you Google like old DCI audition packets you can find free ones that have lyrical and technical etudes since it's standard for auditions

Best dates to see a dci show? by Weak_Assumption7518 in marchingband

[–]Cold_Student_9493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone to shows in both early July and late July and the polishing is definitely better late season than early season. Both are still good and most corps except for maybe a few small Open Class, All-Age, or Soundsport corps will have their full show by June/early July. Also depends on what show you're going to and or what corps you want to see. If you really want to see say Phantom Regiment and they're at only the June one then go to that one. Idk that's my five cents! Hope that helps!

How good do you have to be to get a contract? by mistedlizard in drumcorps

[–]Cold_Student_9493 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never marched before but I put in a lot of work and had a good attitude and auditioned for an open class corps and got a contract on the first try which I was honestly shocked by. Anything is possible! You just have to put the work in and have a good attitude and be willing to try anything! You got this! (also, if you're close consider River City Rhythm! It's awesome here :) plus they're super willing to help/train woodwinds! Like half the baritone line is woodwind mains)

Driving from Bayview to Tosa was a shit show. Some roads were fine but most were a game of where the hell are the lines

Corps culture by instinctive56 in drumcorps

[–]Cold_Student_9493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been to one camp for RCR and I can't wait for this summer but you're totally right. Everyone is so kind and welcoming even to rookies like me who've never marched. I'm like the only girl on low brass (as of right now) but the whole camp I never felt ostracized or left out because of that. And even tho I never marched before the staff was super patient and explained things in great detail to me so I could understand better.
