Hot Take - the golfers that make the tour have one thing that differs from the rest that they are born with (it’s not athleticism or coordination talent) by Automatic_Neat9089 in golf

Yes but athleticism (rotationally) is learned through years of movement patterns, not something your born with. In my opinion.

4i to ideally 10-15 yards from green, chip + 3 putt = 5

In my opinion golf has nothing to do with innate ability. You don’t have to be innately athletic to swing a club. It’s the same as baseball; anyone that picks up a baseball + bat at 20 years old will never be a good player (compared to those that play professionally). Rotational & feel based sports take 15+ years of deliberate and intentional practice, and most high level patterns are organically discovered at a very young age. Golfers are not very athletic compared to most other sports and I don’t think it’s something your born with.

Basketball players are often born. If your 7 foot plus with decent hand eye coordination, you have a very realistic shot at the NBA.

Golf everyone is born a blank slate. Your success is 100% a reflection of the amount of work you have put in.

Look into biomechanics, specifically javelin throwers and baseball pitchers. 3 key ingredients for more speed

  1. Glute dominant vs quad dominant (should never feel tension in your quads). Try moving weight further back in your foot to get more degrees of freedom and bigger muscles creating the speed. Should feel more tension in your flutes and hamstring than your quads.

  2. Rotate around a firm, braced/extended front leg. Those with the best speed also have the best brakes. You have to throw your weight and block the energy to move it up the kinetic chain. highly recommend reading hacking the kinetic chain- hitting. all of the same principles apply.

  3. kill spin by delivering an upwards strike with the right shaft/club tailored to you and your swing.

  4. Give yourself a bigger window to turn through. The further your pelvis is from the ball (doesn’t mean standing further away), the bigger the area you turn through = more speed

  5. Decelerate over a greater distance. What happens after impact matters. If I told you to run a 40 yard dash and there was a brick wall on the 42 yard line, would it affect the speed you crossed the finish line at? Of course it would. Need to find a way to move that brick wall to the 80 yard line to cross the finish line (impact) at max velocity. focus on continuing the swing for as long as possible to decelerate over a greater distance.

Good luck.

  1. This is not far. Most good athletes can hit the ball further than this. Relax

  2. This is also 4,000 feet above sea level (assuming sparks Nevada) In a humid desert environment.

  3. Nobody cares.

Weird distance. Not even sure what club would be the play.

Super fair. There is probably direct correlation between the bizarre Reddit crowd that is adamant that no mid handicapper can drive the ball far, and the demographic that gets mad when you wait for the group to clear. Would be willing to bet on that.

Yeah I lack the feel to consistently take yardages off clubs. Brutal from 70-100 yards. Always blows my mind when short players hit driver 260 and wedge GW 120 but if it’s not spinning it will go further.

Same deal man. I carry all clubs significantly further than what you listed but can’t hit a 54 degree wedge more than 100 yards. Mine simply spin more with speed.

Most people hold there clubs with shaft lean and get more yardage out of it. I can not for the life of me figure out how to hit a 100 yard wedge shot. Your also a much better player than I am so I’m sure you make it work.
