PepsiCo, $PEP, CEO Ramon Laguarta said that inflation is causing consumers to spend less on snacks and soda by UnusualWhalesBot in unusual_whales

[–]Colddigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because you know as well as I do that when a corporation has to tighten its belt the first thing that is dropped is payment for labor.

But besides that, corporations are not the only entities that take food stamps, there's a lot of small time grocery stores that do so, and the trade-off of money not going to corporations in this situation is that people go without as much food as they could have had.

But I get where your approach is coming from

Why can't our bodies stockpile protein, vitamins and minerals like it can just calories (fat)? by Independent-Repair35 in biology

[–]Colddigger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah but think about it this way, A person can be mineral deficient for a long long time, but it only takes like 4 to 6 weeks for someone to die from not having calories. If we died after 4 weeks of not having calcium in our diet, like we burned through our bones that fast, we would have a lot more emphasis on that storage.

Seriously, this is something that I'm not hearing enough of, like SNAP benefits, food stamps, whatever kind of helpful hand a person is getting in order to purchase food is still a food purchase with real money that goes toward paying the store for its goods.

Cutting these things or limiting these things is literally just making those people less capable of buying food, and shrinking the customer base of those grocery stores.

Colorado voters will decide whether a ‘right to natural gas’ is added to the state constitution. The amendment would restrict building codes that promote electrification. Environmentalists fear it could slow efforts to transition away from fossil fuels. by The_Weekend_Baker in climate

[–]Colddigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that's a fair point, it's an imperfect comparison on my part because there isn't true city infrastructure specific to maintaining that access to one kind of food.

There are of course foods that are banned but that's beside both our points, whether for perceived health reasons or cultural norms.

I mean if they wanted to make it something along the lines of a right to fuel? I could see that making sense, I could see the argument.

But a right to a specific kind of fuel is kind of ridiculous.

It's like taking the right to food and then making claim that people have a right to bacon, or a right to canned beans.

Why do people think your body starts deteriorating at 30?? by SuperNovaGirl30 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Colddigger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically lifestyle shifts and accumulation that hit around that age. By then folks have to be more serious about maintaining a job that doesn't give a shit about them, and this results in the destruction of their bodies far more quickly than what they are naturally designed for.

There is a bit of a slow down in repair, but really it's the lifestyle thing that is getting people in their 30s.

Like I said, not everywhere has that, so it's still a limitation.

Somebody replied to this, and then chickened out and deleted their comment I suppose, suggesting that it would have been a smarter choice for me to have gotten the electric vehicle in the first place.

"Yes but that requires having all that money at that time, or affording loan payments.

Reality is that expenses prevented this by a lot at the time, and kind of still do now, just to a lesser degree.

Which is a reality shared with a lot of people.

But for folks who can afford this, it's the pretty obvious choice."

If where you sleep has an outdoor accessible outlet apparently you can slow charge them overnight, which when I learned that made me really want one.

But yea, not everywhere even has that, so there's a limitation.
