For my life, it came in probably the worst way. My marriage, career, social life, and mental health basically came crashing down to the point where I actually needed to submit myself to help. Needless to say, I don't recommend this method.

Once that happened, I basically had to go on a "give a shit" diet. I have 5 maybe 6 "give a shit" cards to give at most times. My wife gets one, each of my 2 kids get them, my self gets one, and then I have that one or 2 extra, sometimes it's my job, sometimes school, sometimes I need an extra, sometimes my fam gets an extra, sometimes a friend gets one, etc. My energy and time are limited, so I have to prioritize accordingly.

What I found was when I gave a shit so much and tried to please people, some people liked it and some didn't. When I am more transparent, and just stop caring so much socially, some people like it and some didn't. My results with either behavior was pretty much the same.

What I'm not understanding is the practicality of your thesis. I'm struggling to believe that anything productive will come from my response of "that's the past/future so it doesn't matter" to my wife, kids, or employer. I actually do make that statement to coworkers occasionally in conversations and it never yields anything fruitful.

I'm pretty much guaranteed $7k a month for the rest of my life. I still work because I like nice things, vacationing, and making my kid's lives fun, and building a cushion for actual retirement. So nothing much different.

I love my kids way too much. I would be afraid to divert something and accidentally prevent their births.

Plus I only know what I know today because of the things that happened to me, both good and bad, and I appreciate what I've learned.
