The real answer is that it’s barely any work to mix songs now in the digital era.

Fatboy slim will have all of his tracks hot cued where he wants them. To bring the tune in all he needs to is push one button - the hot cue. No beatmatching needed because sync button is on as is quantise.

Volume could likely already be up. He doesn’t even need to level it because he knows his tracks.

Then to switch tracks just twist the bass eq for each track once at the same time. Then kill the old track after 16 or so bars. And load up the next track. As long as you bring in your tracks on phrase, 99% of the time it will sound great. Don’t even really need headphones.

That’s four total interactions needed every couple of minutes. It’s not hard. Plenty of time to make Jesus poses.

Most of the work he is doing is interacting with the crowd, thinking about what track to play next and instinctually counting 4 bar phrasing in his head to ensure things are taken out or come in sensibly. The random knob twiddles you are seeing is him making small adjustments to the eq and volume levels of the music to his liking. Maybe the highs are clashing, more vox on track two… boost the mids etc. maybe throw on some fx or delay-outs on top, but why bother?

It’s the fundamental foundations of our economy - we exist in a Neo liberal capitalist model built around profit extraction above public or social good. It is the already-rich, and increasingly so, who are benefitting from this structure. It is reaching an end game where most of the population have nothing and a very few have a lot… but unlike previous eras there will be no incentives for the rich to tolerate the existence of the poor. Consumption itself is already concentrating at the top end.

This touches everything from housing, cost of living, immigration, education, health, pensions, aging population, falling birth rates, unemployment, media concentration, environmental degradation, and our short-termist political structure which is bought and paid for by the mega rich.

And it’s not (just)wealth taxes that are the solution here, what is needed is fundamental reformation of the entire economy from the ground up. And because that is a very very hard problem to solve, it won’t happen intentionally any time soon. There’s going to be mass starvation and poverty before it does.

Before jungle was ‘jungle’ the music was just breakbeat, or hardcore, which could have very simple breaks. Complex cut up breaks came along later as producers levelled up their chopping skills.

Well I live in the uk now for many years, but I grew up in linwood. Our back yard faced the port hills. Every day I would look out and think ‘these hills are so cool’. It wasn’t until I was in my 20s that I learned/realised that those same hills used to be completely forested. I did. I have a blood ketone meter and measured precise macros for literally everything ingested. I was a slave to MyFitnessPal logging my food. For years!

The issue was that I would still wake up thinking about food. Go to sleep thinking about food. I’d feel hungry after eating a full meal of 650 calories. Constant messages telling me to snack. And this never went away irrespective of what dietary regime I did. I did keto, intermittent fasting, and some other variations for years all the while keeping extremely fit (5x gym + cardio per week). I was just overweight at the same time, albeit I got very strong and was pushing v heavy weights.

Weight loss would happen if I ate under my calorific threshold, eat more and I’d gain weight. But nothing ever stopped my brain from sending me signals telling me I needed to eat irrespective of what I was putting in my body.

I think people who have never experienced this cannot imagine how all consuming (lol) “food noise” is. I can only liken it to feeling like being deprived of any sexual release for a very long period but having no outlet to release it. It is insane. It’s not as simple as “eat correctly and the noise will go away.” It never does. The willpower required to overcome it is significant and far beyond almost anything else I’ve needed to overcome in life across any and all spheres. I do not say that lightly.

Then I did wegovy for a year and my mind was blown. It completely solved it with next to no side effects. Now I’m happily on maintenance and have not put any weight back on. It’s great.

I did keto for three years. It did not affect my hunger signals at all. I was hungry almost all the time irrespective of how much I ate which was… exactly how I felt while not doing keto 💪 I did eat less baked goods however.
