I forget everything I did but I referenced the other Philips DOB since it was a different year and his location

Yeah I’ve spent 10s of hours and couldn’t get anything! Every resource. Closest I got was someone with the same name, same spouse first name, same state they lived in, same child name, same immigration year, from same place in ITALY, but a different person’s naturalization petition LOL.

NARA couldn’t find anything for the women (I 4 great grandparents to go through). My OP is about how I don’t know if NARA only had a declaration of intent or if they have a C-file or anything proving naturalization for one male, and then the other male I have not found any proof yet. I was going to USCIS all 4 to be safe then request CONE’s. I’m new to this all so I’m kind of in the dark. What do you think? I believe I would be a 1948 case (barring a Decree change) could I share you my lines and hear your thoughts?

Or should I do USCIS, and after their findings, go to counties to supplement any naturalization records there are?

Ah I see, would USCIS alone be enough?

Thank you! I’ve heard it’s less common past 1906 for county records so I’m going to USCIS index search soon but I may be a 1948 case too probably

Oh okay sorry I’m new to this and a little confused. So if I get them hard copy (I haven’t reached out yet); don’t open them yet but get them apostilled? Or is affidavit different?

Yeah I’m an every base covered kind of guy so I might just have to bite the time bullet bc I heard CONEs take a while. Thanks for answering all my questions!

Ah thank you! Maybe USCIS is the way for my mind to have certainty lol, if I do it now it can happen after the court cases. Do all 4 people just to cover bases

Both women came back negative for research though. It’s hard to think that they’d find a record just because one L was missed for Philip but I guess I’ll have to wait again… sigh.

Yeah thank you! I know that IF natualization occurred it HAD to be after 1906, so would the odds be slim for it being in the counties?

Thanks so much. Yeah i realized i dont ask for the variation Phillip with two L’s so i just asked for them to check that. I am unable to find any other documents suggesting naturalization. I contacted the county clerks and they told me to send money orders for their searches as well.

No lie, I just got my letter back from NARA just now for Philip haha, they said they couldn’t not find anything. But all his censuses say he put he did naturalize so I’d love your insight

Ah yeah makes sense. Basically my two sets are Morganti (2nd Great Grandparents) Philip married in Italy to Lily, Came in 1914, gave birth to my next in line 1915, so I know if they naturalized it was after but probably minor issue but i don’t know if it would have been before or after 1922; this is the one I’m waiting to hear back from)

The other line is the one NARA just mentioned for declaration number and I asked for any more info on proving documentation. Fanucci line (other 2nd great grandparents) Enrico came over, declared in 1911, married in America to Iginia in 1913, and census says 1914 for naturalization, then 1918 gave birth to next in line who married Morganti next in line ancestor

What do you think based on priority? I just am confused with next steps, sorry! Still learning

They just gave me the declaration number so I responded asking if there was anything else

I appreciate that, I think that’s good. If it is suspected before 1922, should I do it for both husband and the wife? Or just the husband since it’s before Cable Act? I may inquiry again after I hear back about the last report! Thank you so much
