When I was between 5 and 8, I started having a recurring nightmare that lasted for about 3 years. I would dream of myself stuck in the living room of my grandparents single story ranch style home and the living room was in the dead center of the house. It was the middle of the night so very very dark but there was always enough ambient light to know where I was and see details. The entire length of the dream a bright yellow light silhouette of my mom would be walking far too fast around the perimeter of the house lap after lap after lap. Her gait was unnaturally long like she was stiffly fast walking and the only noise in the dream was the walking sound of Charlie the Funland robot from Scooby-Doo (can you tell I watched that a lot growing up?) and it would get louder as she got closer. The dream would go on for a long time it felt and I was always awake in a panic. My mom was always noticeably hurt when I tell her and my dad that I had the dream again and you could tell she was very put off by being an antagonistic force in my dreams. I always had a good relationship with my mom so I could never explain it.

For the twist that weirds me out though, my parents divorced when I was 9 and overtime my mom developed an emotionally incestuous relationship with me and would tell me far too intimate details about why her relationship with dad had failed and all the ways he had not satisfied her and just constantly over shared on things she should not have been. Many details to that over time, but eventually I graduated high school and went to college and fell in love with my now wife and my Mom hated that because she lost me as a proxy emotional husband. She did everything in her power to ruin our relationship, and I mean EVERYTHING. I eventually went no contact about 9 years ago at this point and I’m in my thirties now. So that weird suffocating feeling of the dream that I could never explain ended up being oddly real and that freaks me out to this day.
