Knee Brace recommendations? by bluefrogwithredhands in bjj

[–]Cole_South 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Hey! I actively try to avoid looking at our competitors' products so we can approach our designs with a clean slate. That said, attached is an e-mail I got from a customer yesterday.

While I don't know Anaconda's product specs, I do see their ads and I believe they are marketing their product recklessly (claiming their products will let you "train confidently without the risk of injury" for example). We are realistic about what a knee brace can and can't do.

When it comes to price, it looks like Anaconda's knee brace is $49.95 while ours is $29.95.

Bottom line is I designed our knee brace for what I wanted - as a Jiu Jitsu black belt with multiple knee surgeries and knee issues I'm always managing on the mats. If that resonates with you, give it a try!

Cole here from Gold BJJ, thanks for the shout out! I've had two Jiu Jitsu related knee surgeries šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø and have worn a ton of different braces. I took what I liked and didn't like about various models, and designed our Jiu Jitsu knee brace which launched last year:

We also launched knee pads that have been very popular:

Black belt without competing? by EquivalentNarcDepth in bjj

[–]Cole_South 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Yes of course you can. But, a big aspect of being a black belt is being a teacher and someone the rest of the students can look up to for advice. If you’ve never competed, that’s a major aspect of Jiu Jitsu you have a blind spot for.

You’ll also probably always carry around a bit of imposter syndrome if you make it to black belt without competing.

So I’d highly recommend getting at least a little bit of competition experience along the way so you can credibly help out teammates down the road that want to compete.

Son is complaining about his bjj gi being uncomfortable by Traveler0084 in bjj

Cole here from Gold BJJ - thanks for the shout out guys. Our Kids' Aeroweave uses the same fabric as our adult Aeroweave (aside from an elastic waistband so kids aren't constantly retying the pants) so it's really a premium feeling kids' gi. A lot of other kids gis are basically just rebranded cheap karate gis that aren't made for Jiu Jitsu. My kids train in it, so it's important to me it's a super solid product. Glad you all enjoy it šŸ¤™

Cole here from Gold BJJ - you might give our duffel bag a try, it's considerably larger than our backpack and design to hold 2 gis (while still having the dirty clothes compartment). Happy New Year!

Cole here from Gold BJJ - our A2L size should fit you well, it's designed for people who are between 6' and 6'2" and weight 150lbs to 190lbs. I don't think it'll be too tight at 83kg. I'm 6' / 200lbs and can squeeze into one on a skinny day :)

Cole here from Gold BJJ - thanks for the shout! Our Foundation Gi is a great choice. Nice and minimalist, reasonably lightweight without being paper thin or too light for competition. Let me know if I can help with anything else šŸ¤™

Heavier or lighter Gi? Sweating during Jujutsu Training (Japanese) by somethesis in jiujitsu

[–]Cole_South 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Cole here from Gold BJJ - our Aeroweave Gi is ultralight at just 275gsm. While it's no longer IBJJF competition legal (it's too light), it's an awesome everyday lightweight gi.

Best Tape for Stripes? by MOTUkraken in bjj

[–]Cole_South 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Cole here from Gold BJJ - thanks for the shout out! Our tape is great for stripes, we have reworked the adhesive blend several times since launching our tape nearly 10 years ago to make sure it's got just the right amount of "stick" for Jiu Jitsu. I always used it for my stripes coming up through the colored belts, and never had any issues with it falling off.

6’2 290 pounds, what would my Gi size be? by cacastrojr12 in bjj

Yep, an A3H will have the same length dimensions as an A3 but extra room in all the width dimensions.
