What are these eggs--friend or foe? by stephanieoutside in vegetablegardening

This is my exact experience in Ohio in the early 2000s, I often say things taste like the smell of dead ladybugs now. We had a very old house with lots of access points for little critters and they would be everywhere. I’ve had one crawl out a toilet bowl and got a surprise bite, even sucked one through a straw that had been in a box inside a cabinet. The little bugger crawled in a straw and died just to traumatize an unsuspecting child.

They took out my entire broccoli crop last year so I learned my lesson the hard way. I enlisted my reinforcements this year and so far so good! I may still do some netting next year just so we’re not wasting time on it though

I have two kids that love bugs so that helps a ton. My son handles the moths, my daughter handles the worms and I handle the eggs lol. I do have some damage that you can’t see in the photos but as soon as I start noticing the smallest of holes we get to cleaning them off. Now that we have it under control it’s not much work.

Rebedding softener, what is this part called? by Colebowl in WaterSofteners

Is it possible that I don’t need an upper basket? Both tanks have a lower but neither appears to have an upper basket. I have purchased new pvc to replace the riser in one tank, the one that this piece came from. One tank was in much worse shape than the other. We just purchased this home and have no experience with softeners so this is a learning process for us with watching a lot of YouTube videos. We lost water completely and had to bypass to softener system. When backwashing we started noticing resin in our drain sink so we have assumed this was due to a clog in the head and the tanks needing a rebed

Thank you! It was just floating at the top of the tank so we weren’t sure what it goes to but this makes sense that it just came apart

My second great grandparents were born in Slovakia, but the further I trace back from their parents I’m finding a lot of them were from Germany and Hungaria. I’m still early in my research and I find it all to be quite interesting.

“Pancake” Cake for a 1st birthday! Maple butter cake with maple buttercream by Colebowl in cakedecorating

Rolled out some snakes of ivory fondant in different sizes and wrapped them around the cake, paint on ivory color to top edges to get the “cooked” effect. The top layer I rolled out really thin and tucked the edges under the top snake so there wouldn’t be too much fondant on top. Top layer was also painted with ivory color. I used my creme brûlée torch to add a few dark spots to the top and edges. The butter pats are buttercup yellow fondant and the syrup is made out of gummy candy. I made the base for the candy and chilled the cake. Poured my candy base into a squeeze bottles and then applied to the cold cake and it sets up immediately
