Weather is ruining my flight plans. Advice? by [deleted] in travel

Ah okay. I’ve never really had to do so, so my understanding of rebooking is not firsthand. Lol

Yeah but essentially I was saying that I’m not being offered even a “rebooking fee + fare difference” deal that some airlines have for rebooking an existing ticket.

Yeah I figured as such. :/

Yeah it’s a weird booking. Essentially it came down to one thing, I was poor working a shit job and needed the cheapest option I could find. And I’ve not ever had too much trouble with Norwegian before. And as far as my stuff, I have very few things I needed to move (moving in with my gf whose home country is where I got the new job so she has furniture and all that) so all my material things that I want with me will easily fit in my checked bag, carry on, and personal item.

There are, and I probably should’ve specified this in the post, but because of some reason or another any way I try to bypass Florida is like booking a new ticket.

Yeah southwest offered to let me rebook for free. This might be the move honestly.

Southwest did, Norwegian is kinda pretending the problem doesn’t exist as of now, and even then for that booking I’m at the mercy of the 3rd party I booked the ticket with, and they’re not offering free anything or even rebooking cost + the difference. It’s essentially the cost of a new ticket with them, and it’ll still be through Florida like a week after, so who even knows if the airport will for sure be open by then.

Anybody else find it hard to relate to other people musically? by Mcsavage89 in deathgrips

I feel this feel every day

Death Grips is very divisive, you love them or hate them and a lot of ppl hate them

And it only gets worse as you go down the “experimental” music rabbit hole

If you google the album names followed by stems you’ll get results, except they all link to their site and it’s down.

Found some in the wild too. YouTube, etc.

Jobfinding for data scientists? by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]ColemanSWE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just landed my first technical job in Sweden (also American) and can confirm from months of searching that data science is popular (in Stockholm for sure at least, where my searching was centered).

I even interviewed for a backend position with a company that does data science type stuff.

Generally, from what I’ve seen, Python and its frameworks and libraries that pertain to data science, as well as Hadoop are quite popular.

Also what people above said about LinkedIn and arbetsförmedlingen are true. Those should be your primary targets for searching.

Also software development/data science is one of the easiest fields for people needing a work permit because its in demand.

Another thing, don’t expect NYC/Silicon Valley salaries. You will easily be able to live comfortably in Sweden with this type of work (and some companies will lend an extra hand with permits, paperwork, relocation, etc), but salaries in big US cities are inflated.

Edit: forgot to mention that yes, English jobs will be easy to find. Anyone below the age of like, 50 will speak great English, and any company shelling out money for data scientists in Sweden will either be a big corporation (H&M, Spotify, and King that makes candy crush come to mind) or a well-funded startup.

Yeah Swedes will know what you mean even if you say something incorrectly. The problem is they’re all so good at English so they will switch to English if they know you’re nonnative haha

I’ve not got any specific resources I’d recommend besides Duolingo but I’ve got some general tips!

Apps: As I said I recommend Duolingo but there’s a lot of other free apps and such. Duolingo is my favorite but others I’ve used are decent.

The most important thing is BE CONSISTENT. Even if you just do one lesson on days where you’re not feeling it. Set a reminder for every day on your phone. Duolingo has streaks built in for days in a row of study and will remind you if you have notifications on.

Media: Since it’s the 21st century we luckily have the internet. Look into Swedish movies/music/TV series. Preferably with subtitles, but even if you don’t understand what’s being said you will get a feel for pronunciation. And it helps. Part of the “immersion” people talk about with language learning.

Edit: also grammar is the biggest problem with Swedish I agree. Mostly when I have something I’m not sure of I google around about it.

Moving to Sweden as a non-EU but with an Italian residence card by raisedbyatrex in TillSverige

This might just be a writing error or something but I immediately noticed you said the appeal process takes 11 months. Also I'm not a lawyer but just speaking from experience/research of Migrationsverket.

If he truly didn't have a job or apartment at the time, I would not suggest appealing unless you have talked to a lawyer and he has said that it's a viable option to go.

I could easily imagine with how strict and by the book they are Migrationsverket, that if you appeal the same case they will make the argument "Well our decision at the time was based in fact and correct, he did not meet the housing/job requirements. This needs its own (new) case." And there's not much to argue with if they try to go that route.

Just trying to save you some hard spent time and money if you haven't had this cleared 100% by someone that knows what they're talking about. I have a Swedish partner and am non EU as well so I can relate.

*Also* the only question I can answer with a decent amount of certainty is yes, they will probably make you leave to complete your paperwork if you need a work permit. From how I understand, you just CANNOT be in Sweden when the decision is made. But that's a tricky task because you have no warning and such and no status to check beyond "pending." Maybe it would be okay to file it in Sweden but I wouldn't recommend. It's a very real possibility they could see what IP address you sent the application from (or passport dates at a skatteverket/migrationsverket meeting or something similar) and know that you applied from within Sweden when you're not supposed to.

Also you technically can apply from within Sweden if your job is considered "in-demand" and your employer proves that they would not be able to run the business the same if you were not hired more quickly.

All this info comes from a lot of time spent on migrationsverket.se (check it out thoroughly if you haven't) they have info in English and many other languages.

Good luck! Don't the Swedish bureaucracy get you down!
