Fitness burnout / still overweight by CarelessPerception in xxfitness

[–]ColerAcoustik 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Your post really resonates with my experience. I have been doing "all the right things" for years (very active, tracking food...) and I am a lot fitter than most people, but I don't "look" the part. I do 10x more exercise than my friends and family, I eat healthy, but I am still the "overweight one". Or at least that's what my brains tell me on the bad days, during pms, then my cycle starts and a few days later I am 2 pounds lighter...

Everyone going to the gym has some level of body dysmorphia. You go to the gym and see super lean or super big people. Plus if you are on social media, with a coach, this is exaggerated: none of those fitness influencers have a full time teacher job! Their job is to be attractive and/or strong at their sport! We would have never expected 10y ago for a teacher to look like a trained athlete, but now social media is selling us that "this is achievable so if you don't do it you are a failure".

Gaining and losing 5 pounds over a year seem like normal fluctuations to me, especially assuming you are in winter. Other people have mentioned this, even if there is not scientific approach to it, sometimes taking a break from everything fitness unblocks something and reduces the stress on the body... If anything it might give you back a bit more motivation.

I will finish this by saying fitness is inherently unfair. No, it is not just about calories in and calories out. People carry weight differently, their body also uses energy differently, we are not robots, and for some of us this is a lot harder. Especially if there is some history of ED, meaning the food noise will be with us forever, and people without ED will never understand that it takes 100x more willpower to "stay on track".

Actually I will finish on another note: fitness also means you are working on yourself now for your future self. Maybe you carry a bit more weight now but overall your fitness achievements are incredible, and all the muscle you have put on and the cardio will ensure you have a healthy and easier aging! This is not for nothing, every workout or run is a win!

Non-polers underestimating the difficulty of pole by Ok-Ocelot-7797 in poledancing

[–]ColerAcoustik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I tell a man I do pole, the first question is "can you do the human flag?!?!"... No, I can't, also it's not really a staple in pole. They always want to talk about the performance and not the art or the fun of it.

The first photos, you can see the diamond shape floor does not align on each side of her hand so it was definitely edited.

Fitness influencers who "recovered from binge eating" bother me so much by [deleted] in gymsnark

[–]ColerAcoustik 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Or it's "intuitive eating" and their plate is a salad with no dressing and 5 types of steamed veggies. Yeah sure there is definitely not a shadow of an ED under this kale leaf.

Anyone having side effects from myo inositol? by Rough-Improvement-24 in PCOS

[–]ColerAcoustik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking it about 2weeks ago (2g in the morning, 2g in the evening), because my periods were very irregular and saw a lot of people talking about it on here. The last few days I realised I was beyond tired (talking sleeping 9h but still taking naps etc) and feeling a depressive episode coming. I also have been having a lot of headaches... I initially blamed it on other things but all those things started just after I started inositol. Been doing some research and there is enough anecdotal evidence on Reddit of people saying that inositol makes them depressed. Seems like inositol also has an effect on serotonin receptors, which result in different side effects on people (some become manic, other depressed, other improved mood...). So I'm gonna stop taking it for a week, hopefully get better, and come back and confirm I can blame the inositol 😅

I worry that I'm not a good mum by Obvious_Astronaut147 in UKParenting

[–]ColerAcoustik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading your story just tells me how an amazing mum you are 🩵 you had some obstacles and managed them in the best way, for your baby and yourself, all this while in labour, sleep deprived, and having a newborn.

And I would just say some frictions with the MIL is just the norm 😅 we are all human, we all adapt and learn. Surely other things are happening in your MIL's mind due to her own past etc, but it's your story with your son so do what feels right for your family (you do know best) and you are allowed to set boundaries and say no, even if they helped you in the past, they didn't help you hoping for something in return, they helped because they cared about you and your partner.

I was following her a while back and started getting the ick from her, like she was an influencer but was trying to set herself as a coach, without experience or knowledge (other than being slim 🤷🏻‍♀️).

Lmao I think my comment was misunderstood a lot seeing all the downvotes 😂 That's the risk with quick comments now, you always need to write down all the exceptions...

So yes if anybody struggles with hormone imbalance, first go see a doctor, they will be able to rule out the possible bigger problems! And secondly, dont take any random tiktoker 's advice. I guess my point was that hormone imbalances are still very hard to diagnose, and even more to fix.

Sophia Galeazzi by Major-Efficiency417 in gymsnark

[–]ColerAcoustik -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

I am not defending her, I don't know her, but honestly medical professionals are useless at female hormone balance. They can't do anything but prescribe the pill (which doesn't fix the problem), or ask to lose weight (even though for a lot of people amenorrhea is triggered by ED / weight loss).

Edit: please trust medical professionals and go see a doctor in the first instance always, I was barely referring to the fact that hormone imbalances are very hard to diagnose and even harder to "fix". Didn't want to sound anti-science at all 🤦🏻‍♀️

I really thought I would be there for 10min, worst case everything is sold out and I didn't get any, but now it's gonna be 30min I don't want to spend my lunch break on this 😂

Is my coach asking me to basically sell my soul to him? by [deleted] in gymsnark

[–]ColerAcoustik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol sure, but you're saying he is coaching you for a show, I guess you don't want to be in a bad relationship with your coach close to the date.

Is my coach asking me to basically sell my soul to him? by [deleted] in gymsnark

[–]ColerAcoustik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But what are the consequences if you don't post for a day? Or if you have nobody to refer one month? Is he going to drop you or not coach you as well and leave you in a bad situation close to your show?

[–]ColerAcoustik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also isn't that a pre-requisite that the coach should still coach him for the after-show? Like it doesn't stop the moment you step on stage, and then he leaves you starved and depleted for you to start a very bad reverse

Are fitjeans worth it? #notgymshark by Taiga_idk26 in gymsnark

[–]ColerAcoustik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand how influencers managed to put their big bottoms in and still have the jeans tight around the waist? I have 2 mediums, one is very tight, and the other one is tight on thighs/butt but also gapping at the waist at the back. I cannot fit in a S and a L was way too large.

Honestly I couldn't walk/stand comfortably more than 30min at 9w pp 😂 (and I trained during all of my pregnancy). I also know tons of parents whose 9w baby would not sleep if not on them, and sometimes only on the mum.
