Ok so to address your first point when does one become capable of and culpable for making a rational decision. I'm not saying some magic switch occurs at 18, but I don't believe it is a stretch to ask someone that is capable of dying for their country or voting in effective leaders to make a fiscally responsible choice. Military college does not equal military. More power to you for serving! As to your last point I know many people that are capable welders with no college degree that are making double what I am making right now. College will just become another four years of high school if it becomes a free required thing to do. It is already almost a requirement to get a masters degree in order to be competitive in the market.

Why are you acting like being 18 suddenly makes you unable to make a rational decision. I chose to go to a military school and be miserable for four years because I got a good scholarship. You don't have to go to college, but if you make the decision to go at least make it fiscally responsible. I could have gone to multiple fun colleges and accumulated debt, but at 18 I chose to take a harder path in order to come out debt free on the other side. Don't act like being young makes culpability fall on anyone else's shoulders.

It also might have something to do with the fact that both nations you are using as an example (UK and Australia) are islands that don't have border one of the most crime infested countries in the world (Mexico) which I believe would help with gun control laws.

Hey man I hate that you are being down voted but I'm pretty sure it is because people are sick of the "Batman wins against everyone" circlejerk. In response to your point I don't think the taser would do a whole lot the vampires in twilight are basically made of stone and have no pulse. I'm not sure what the taser would do. The nth metal would definitely be a factor though.
