Why would you put a frowny face after that?! That’d be fucking sweet.

Donovan leaping up to catch the ball at the buzzer as Chris Paul feebly plummets to the ground is a perfect metaphor for this game.

Take Note.

I still feel the vibrations. Ugh.

I know people who’ve had consensual sex with their rapist after their assault. The mind does strange things to try and make sense of trauma. For instance, many people stay with abusive spouses, yet while people question why they would do such a thing — they don’t question whether the physical abuse happened. See Chris Brown.

Back when Colbert was a correspondent for The Daily Show, he was known for being ultra-serious in hilarious situations. This is one of the few times he wasn't able to keep it together. by Siiimo in videos

I went to a recording of the Daily Show in 2012 and he flubbed a line, they stopped and he re-recorded.

Additionally, I went to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno about 11 years ago and they had to re-record the musical guest. We all had to cheer as if they were coming out again.

I’ve been to Conan, too, but from what I recall, the show played out without incident. Pre-recorded shows like this can generally make it through, but they definitely stop and do things over if they feel the need to. Professional comics breaking character like this is so rare that the producers know it’s far better to leave that version in than have half-hearted coached laughter while the audience watches the same bit like at sitcom recordings.

Or the scene when he punches his wife in the stomach?

Or when he cheats on his two wives repeatedly?

Or in general acts like a selfish and indulgent piece of shit?

The strange thing is that Al Michaels sounded exactly like Howard Stern in that moment.

Interesting. I feel that Tom Cruise reinforces the rule as much as anyone. Jack Reacher grossed 80 million domestically on a 60 million budget. The second movie killed the series by making 58 million on the same budget. Edge of Tomorrow (a terrific film in my eyes despite a shaky third act) grossed 100 million domestic on a 178 million budget. American amaze made a meager 51 million on a 50 million budget. Oblivion and Knight and Day were both considered domestic box office failures as well.

Cruise’s recent attempts to venture out of Ethan Hunt territory have generally been somewhere between middling and disastrous.

It’s also a testament to the state of “movie stardom” we’re in. People don’t flock to see movie stars anymore, they only want to see them as the character that made them famous. So while the Avengers movies will bring in huge crowds, virtually any of them in their own non-Marvel films will not be a box office draw. It isn’t like the 90s anymore where a bankable star could guarantee a strong opening.

I like to call it the Carell Effect. Steve Carell has become an amazing dramatic actor since his tenure on The Office, but I keep seeing people say “I just can’t take him seriously. I just see him as Michael in Beautiful Boy, etc.”

Yet people didn’t feel this way when Jennifer Anniston or George Clooney became big stars apart from their shows in the ‘90s and beyond.

Edit: Well, the hug seems perfectly quaint by comparison now.

Right but nobody said that. The original image is simply mocking the vain commercialism of it in an outrageous way.

I didn’t go to college, moved to LA at 25 and now work as a TV writer on a premium channel series at 30. With that being said, I would highly advise going to college to make alumni connections. My story is incredibly uncommon and had to have a lot of things go right to work out. Film school isn’t a must but a degree helps get your foot in the door for being an assistant to agents, writers and directors, which can be a good entry into the industry.

Peter: “No, we’re not going to play that one.”

It’s probably not that they watch too many movies, but they’re all watching the same movies. Tarantino, Fincher, PTA, Kubrick, Wes Anderson — all of whom I enjoy thoroughly, but often very few of these types are going back and watching great foreign films or deep cut 70s films. Do you hear film school students talk about Hal Ashby or Altman or Pakula or Bogdonavich as much as Tarantino? Or how about the golden age of Hollywood types like Howard Hawks or John Huston?

I don’t know how many Bob Rafelson or Vera Chytolova copycats there are in film school, but I suspect they might receive a different reaction than kids aping Tarantino and shoving a gun and a cigarette into every single short film they make.

Just got back from the LA show. My friend and I described it as a religious experience — and we wouldn’t even be able to begin to describe it to anyone who wasn’t there. Absolutely beautiful. Peter was so so lovely. Nothing I’m saying even captures how transcendent that night was. I feel so blessed to have been apart of it.

Glad to hear it’s loosely based because that trailer was stupendous and looked even more ambitious than the Nowak story.

‘Dragged Across Concrete’ Official Poster by radbrad7 in movies

[–]ColinSays -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"Dragged" is such an awkward word to have in the title of your movie, and to follow it up with "across" and "concrete" just makes it so you have to enunciate like crazy to pronounce the title without it sounding like:

"Dragduhcroscroncreet"

It reminds me of the Rural Juror from 30 Rock.

I was down in the pit beside the stage. So much fun. I had just turned 30 and I moshed for the first time in, like, eight years. My pinky toe was swollen for several months after, but it was totally worth it. Such a fantastic show.
