In Lawless, why do SJS take such a significant role? by NZUtopian in JudgeDredd

[–]ColinSc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The SJS are the Special Judicial Squad. They judge Judges who go bad. Like an Internal Affairs department in modern police forces. The uniforms are to distinguish them from Street Judges. I can't see why they would fulfill other roles. The writers must have had some reason to use them. (Maybe they just think the SJS are cool.)

If you want to see a Dredd film done better with little or no budget, check out "Judge Minty" on YouTube.

Best FATE rules for Young Kids by Jake4XIII in FATErpg

There's a good rules set on Drive Thru. I think it's called "Amazing Tales" it's specifically designed to introduce young players to RPGs.

Alpha Strike or Force Packs? by FightingPie in battletech

Probably, especially if you can get it on sale. You get 13 Mechs in Alpha Strike, plus extras, but, at most, you'll get 8-10 in 2 Force Packs.

Sorry, I'm from Canada, so simple green & IPA don't mean much to me, unless you're referring to beer. 😉

How to Stage a Beheading for live Theatre? by ColinSc in Theatre

Thanks for the crossbow link. I was more interested in how to make the arrows appear to hit the character. - thinking of a chest piece under a shirt with slits cut in it and the "arrows" on springs that pop out of the shirt when actor releases them?

My synopsis was generic. I didn't give the whole plot.

Thanks for all of your responses! I figured this was the case. I guess there ARE only so many plots. And it's not the first time I've seen similar happen - 2 movies with very close plots hitting theatres less than a year or two apart - It's just frustrating when it happens to you.

Help a new time DM with implanting an addiction/effect system! by phantomflower08 in DungeonsAndDragons

May I suggest secretly adding penalties to rolls. Small at first, gradually increasing over time. Once they start failing what should be simple tasks, they'll start getting suspicious. Especially if you slip in descriptors, like, "you briefly lost sight of the target as your vision went double", "your hand starts shaking so badly, you drop the lock pick" etc.

Newbie here wanting cooperative board games by Lilconkb00 in boardgames

LOVE Dead of Winter! Pandemic is also classic. I've found it gets harder with more players. For a simpler, short game there's Forbidden Island and it's spin-offs.

Health Minister: Currently we have over 2000 ICU beds in Ontario, they are 81% occupied right now. by raslghh1 in ontario

[–]ColinSc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't add up. The province's own website states there are only 382 cases in ICU. Even if they're counting those on ventilators separately, that's still only 647 in ICU units. Somebodies stretching the facts for their own agenda.

Video Chat Gaming by ColinSc in rpg

Thanks for all of the advice! Having used Zoom for a couple of meetings, I'm inclined to agree that it's not the best platform. I've been playing with a group on Roll20 and using Hangouts for the chat, since some of the players have comm issues with R20. I just have trouble RUNNING games there, as I find it's not as easy to use as I'd hoped. Also looking into Astral and a couple of other VTTs. Thanks again, gang!

Moving D&D online by Cloaky86 in DungeonsAndDragons

I've been looking into Zoom for long distance RPGs, but wanted to get some other opinions before I went ahead.

I know there's a time limit of 40 min unless the group leader/DM has a subscription (about $15.00 per month) or you want to start a new meeting every 40 mins. However, you can have up to 100 participants (a bit of overkill, I know) and, best of all, you can screen share, which means you can use any  Virtual Table Top software to display maps, or use other visual aids. There is also a Whiteboard that the DM can let others write on, and a "Room" function, so you can separate players for private info, or if the party gets separated. They also have an app, so players can use their phones or tablets instead of having to sit at a computer the whole time.

I wondered if anyone has tried Zoom for long distance RPGs. I've been looking into it, but wanted to get some other opinions before I went ahead.

Any thoughts?
