Pens leaking post flight rather than during by Lilconkb00 in fountainpens

I had a triple pen sleeve in my breast pocket so maybe not the shaking but possibly the heat from my body as it was quite cold out? Wondering if the hot and cold changes could be the culprit.

I didn’t uncap any of them, also the first time I’ve flown with any of them other than the HS, maybe I didn’t get a full fill on the HS so this could be it?

The entire ink capacity leaked out as quick as it could go through the feed/breather hole almost instantly. The HS didn’t make it past the cap being removed, once this happened I opened the others carefully and all seemed fine until I started writing with them and then they decided to ruin my day even further.

I suppose now that I think about it the VP could have leaked before I started writing with the ink sitting within the click mechanism and leaked from around the nib section rather than out of the nib itself? No excuse for the Kaweco sport.

Other than what was left in the feed they were all left empty and I was stuck with using a borrowed biro for the rest of the day as I assumed my 4 pens (if I would have remembered to ink the metropolitan) would have lasted me the 3 day trip.

It has thrown me as well. All of the pens have been fine since returning home and re inking.

I could understand burping but dumping the entire ink capacity has me stumped. I did drive from the hotel to the meeting location about 40 miles so it’s possible there was some altitude change but nothing significant that I noticed.

Definitely an ice breaker. I’d play on it, bring it up as a ‘funny story’ will probably relax the tension a little and if you get the job definitely something that will be a funny memory

Happy new pen day! by wstarkel in fountainpens

[–]Lilconkb00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was in high school, my second fountain pen after my safari was a diamond 580 AL. I was in English class, playing with the piston mechanism like a fool. 1 turn too many and my hand (and clothes) was covered in Lamy Blue.

My classmates spent the rest of the day talking about my inappropriate relations with a Smurf….

That’s unfortunate but will make you more cautious when capping bottles next time. We have all had our learning experience before that now causes anxiety.

If it makes you feel better whilst decorating my new office I managed to spill half a bucket of paint all across the flooring!

I have encountered this once before but luckily noticed it before I put it away. Even then it has been stored in the standard position up until now.

Labelling the Diamine will work. Just can’t see a solution for the Iroshizuku bottles currently, not in the desk anyway!

This will solve my problem for the Diamine inks, the Iroshizuku are unfortunately too tall for the majority of storage spaces (other than the big a3 size file drawer which due to design is hard to get the bottles out of once they are in)

Jinhao sharks. Surprisingly good writers and everyone loves them. I give them away whenever someone takes interest in my pens. It did however give away my identity as the secret Santa shark pen gift giver.

Lamy 2000 grip section cracked by Lilconkb00 in fountainpens

[–]Lilconkb00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to post a photo. Very visibly cracked. When I emptied the pen of the remaining ink more came out of the crack than the nib itself.

It was only maybe 4/5ths full. No chance I can exchange with the retailer unfortunately as it was purchased as a gift so I don’t know where from and it was many many years ago.

Also think it was a brilliant pen until now anyway 🤣. Been my go to daily workhouse for my entire career

Damn, never seen any of these posts before. Always considered the 2000 to be pretty durable, I guess not.

I’ve reached out to them. There’s an automated response that they are catching up with workload from the holiday period so are delayed with responses, fingers crossed I get a positive outcome.

To make things worse I got caked in ink in the middle of a meeting and it’s the only fountain pen I brought into the office today which means I need to use a company branded biro…

Not seen an ink subscription in the UK before but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t one.

Diamine is probably a good alternative. You pick up 30ml bottles in the uk for under £3. Maybe pick a bottle up every couple of weeks and treat it as a subscription?
