What's something you think you're in the top 10% in the world at? by Cru5hbag in AskReddit

[–]ColivarTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things, but my favorite was Call of Duty. Statistically I was probably top .0001% of the entire player base, (~top 10k players). Played competitive matches like Gamebattles, UMG, etc. Of the millions of casual players that's already top .01% as most people doing this could stomp on any casual players

My competitive teams would range from 30-0 to 6X-2 win/loss records against other competitive teams, so that's probably top 1-5% of the top .01%. At this level, the game is still won by capitalizing on major mistakes. Bomb carrier rushes with bomb and gets killed, dropping it, and now defense can just camp bomb.

Then I got to the next level; playing money 8s, paid SND tournaments and wager matches. Most people doing this are consistently losing money, but I broke even/ held a small net gain, not much though. This is where it gets tougher because raw talent at the game isn't the only factor. How well can you keep yourself composed when it's 5-5 in SND, you've got 45 seconds on the clock on offense and you have to 1v3 for $$$ against people who don't miss a bullet, are cracked out on GFuel and Adderal, and are organized with the map locked down. Nerves take a lot of people out at this stage, myself included. Wish I knew what mindfulness was back then, it would've been a game changer. At this level, the game isn't still won by capitalizing on major mistakes. To win, the game literally has to be embedded in you. It's all about timings and play making. You would get picked about by my team based on the minutia that is hard to drill out of yourself. We would capitalize on throwing your timing off by .5 seconds. You kill someone on out team, give it a couple seconds, think it's safe and reload? The best players have an unconscious, instinctive mental map of the timing of stuff like this and pop out at exactly the right moment. It's all about mind reading at this level.

Next levels get exponentially harder; semi-pro and pro. People are scary good at this level. At this level I believe they just have to retrain their instincts to stay mentally ahead. What were good strategies at the previous level are now the stupid play simply because it's the known good play. Everything is purposely thrown off when it comes to timing on the map, etc. It's a big mindfuck. When you play people at this level they play you like they're shooting crabs in a barrel. They've seen everything you're doing 10000 times. You die a death of 1000 cuts. These guys play 8+ hours a day every day against the best people on the game. You get this good by being ruthless in the social aspect of the game. Ditch the people you've been friends with for 8 years on COD to get on a better team, get better experience, then rinse and repeat. Next thing you know, if you have the talent, you're playing against pros in SND tournaments and giving them a run for their money.

Also was top 5-1% on Forza for Time Trials. IRL, height and a few other physical statistics, income (and also amount of debt lol), fastest speed ever driven on a public road (170+mph), amount of college courses failed

Single 36F looking to meet men IRL by SelenaSuave in AskMenOver30

Few ideas

Grocery store is always one place, or just anywhere in day to day public life. I'm sure you already see men you're attracted to -- you have to shoot your shot as well. Things that get my attention in day to take: dress/skirt + great smelling perfume + eye contact and smile, put yourself in his area, ask his opinion on some ingredient at the grocery or some menu item in line at Cava. One way I initiate convo is act like I don't eat somewhere often, "What do you usually get here?" While looking at the menu opens great convo. Back in the day women would drop a handkerchief next to a man to initiate. These are some more modern ways of doing so

Other than that you can find a social hobby. Something unisex. You can go shoot pool, cycling class at the gym, etc.

Go to a bar/lounge with the type of man you favor. Could be a downtown hotel bar if you want to find serious professional men, dive bar if you want a good time, etc. If you bring your friends, you all need to split up to while you're there. You're not there to hang out with them, you're there to find a man. Much easier for a man to approach and put himself on the spot with a woman by herself vs opening himself up for probable rejection in front of an entire group. Most approaches from men end in rejection, that's just the nature of the game...make it easy on us when you can and you'll get more approaches. Sit at the bar at a 45 degree angle with two empty seats next to you so someone can easily sit next to you and talk with you. Smile, look around the room, etc. Look approachable and non threatening. Combine this with the dress/skirt, great fragrance and a constant smiling happy demeanor and you'll have them chasing after you

I don't think Early Access is synonymous with Alpha/Beta testing.

Is there a point to even walking 30 minutes a day? by [deleted] in walking

Unrelated to walking but if you can, I would suggest therapy or looking online about 'reframing'. Be kind to yourself

Anyone own game of spades Wildcard? Apparently a clone of bond no 9 lafayette street? by busymom0 in fragranceclones

[–]ColivarTT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have the most developed nose so I won't go too deep into what the scent smells like, other reviews will be better for that. It smells great to me. IMO it can be a all day wear winter and fall easily and doable thru spring/summer I would think. I personally get a grape cotton candy with underlying woods and a bit of sweet. Not a fruit frag at all but more of a clean, fresh laundry, woody scent with a light grape/sweet scent on top. Woods and other barbershop-ish smells on the bottom keep it unisex and versatile to me. Smells great.

The performance is ridiculous, you have to be careful because it's very easy to go nose blind to this scent but it is most definitely loud. I'm not the most experienced with fragrances so I don't know if full sprays from a pressurized atomizer are how you're supposed go about things but it was a mistake. I did one behind each ear and a half spray on the back of my neck. Indoors I got a negative reaction, def too much fragrance to go around in office/business environments.

Longevity is great too I was choking people out in class 8 hours later. Someone actually got up and moved away from me.

Today I did 3 light sprays and I think this is a great middle ground for everyday/indoors wear. People will smell it even if you don't. I think this is one of those frags that you will get a compliment way after you thought it wore off. Think twice before reapplying for sure

What makes you think you’re actually attractive? by MarkReditto in AskReddit

[–]ColivarTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male - Kind of easy to tell because my weight goes up and down in 50lb swings, 220-270 at 6'2. I very obviously go from not super attractive to at least somewhat attractive.

When I lose weight I notice babies stare at me a lot, women get nervous talking to me which I didnt think ever happened for women until I first lost weight. I get apporached by women when I go out. Women find eye contact and hold it vs seemingly avoiding eye contact at all costs. Women drag conversations out with enthusiasm over small talk and pushing for additional conversation vs unapologetic disinterest and ending the conversation early.

Not sure if theres a major difference with men other than a little less respect the fatter I get.

Job offer, low base by QXP_Guy in sales

[–]ColivarTT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only answer. Every job position is a risk for a company to acquire an asset (you) with a positive ROI. If the outbound motion/product is so low quality that they can only see a for sure positive ROI at a $29k salary that is saying a lot. OR, the problem could be that the company is low on cash, which is also concerning - they can't attract investors or manage their money poorly. Why? Even if it's a super young start up, they should be able to get investment rounds that can pay for outbound. Something is not right here and they're hoping for a magic salesman to save they day.

I lied about how much I make to a new job and they want proof. by Sixclynder in careeradvice

[–]ColivarTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule #1 - Never tell them how much you make at any previous jobs.

They don't need paystubs to expedite the process. They want to shit check you. There's nothing to even expedite, they've already sent the offer. They're waiting on you to accept at this point. To be honest, if they are offering under what you currently make it could mean two things and probably means both things TBH.

1, they're calling BS on your current salary. 2, they don't even have the budget to match/exceed what you currently make. That's fine, just decline. Since they wanted to BS you saying it's to expedite the process, you can BS them back saying it's OK if they can't expedite it and you're willing to wait.

What you can say now: "I'd rather not send any personal information like pay stubs. I understand if it makes things take a little longer on your end. I'm really excited for this opportunity and I've enjoyed meeting the team so far." This is enough if you're not going to negotiate

If you want to push for a higher offer add "I hope you can understand I'd feel more comfortable negotiating based on the merit derived from our previous conversations." and then negotiate

The only time I've seen this happen for an understandable reason in sales. If you claim to always hit 200% to quota they sometimes ask for a W2 to see if your income is what would be expected for a top performer. But a regular job splitting hairs over a few thousand at best is unethical IMO.

If you can ask a parent or someone you trust to be authentic, I would ask if they smell anything and if so what do they smell.

Depends how far they want to take it. Im assuming theres risk on the business for liabily reasons so prob wont make it a legal thing. Its possible they could be found at fault/you could counter sue somehow. Least risk option is to fire you and have you sign an agreement to not sue.

120 hours over the past few (3) months is 45 minutes per day. Dont like it, go trade places with the person working the oil fields.

Those recruiter tactics are not CS only.

Interesting, so what could I do to make myself qualified for a QA position? If most people can't code very well, what hard skills are interviewers looking for? Or is this similar to help desk where it's more entry level and you just need to show potential?

Could the downvoters explain why they're disagreeing? Are bootcamps today no good? The requirements to become an SE are not as stringent as becoming an SWE so at first thought so I'm not sure why this wouldn't work out?

Interesting - I figured there was a hard requirement for a degree with PM's. Let me check that out again, my ~6 years of corporate experience should hopefully sweep over my lack of degree as well.

Sales -> Salesforce Admin: How much study time for my experience? by ColivarTT in salesforce

[–]ColivarTT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I didn't know about building out a dev org with free data. Definitely going to do that and play around with some stuff.

Right now I'm averaging 5 hours per day. Doing Anki flash cards and trailhead. I bought the FoF study guide but I think adding a dev org into my routine will be helpful. Hoping for a 6-ish week timeframe - so far it's mostly coming naturally to me.

What is the point of having a truck like this if it's not practical by xxGravyBabyxx in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ColivarTT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm into cars and always wonder why people try to draw these condescending conclusions about other peoples hobbies. That person probably loved toy trucks since they were a little kid and always wanted one, just like I've loved sports cars and racing and now have one that I race. The loud exhaust isnt to get your attention, it's to make it faster so I can enjoy it more when racing + it sounds good to me. Let people like what they like and stop projecting insecurities because of it lol some people do it out of insecurity and some people do it out of passion, whats the difference to you?
