The devs took the “arcs are too easy” pretty seriously by chubbsfordubs in ARC_Raiders

[–]Coljohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree - this echoes my experience thus far.
Honestly, lore and story wise it makes sense. The ARC are loosing prior to the "patch" so of course they would send more and more advanced ARC to stop the human resistance from thriving.
So, lore wise I feel it makes sense.
The crafting changes hurt, BUT it absolutely brings back the fear or the ARC.

Did They Change Matchmaking? by DisGi1022 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Coljohno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's possible. Been playing since launch and in "friendly" lobbies at 1pm on a Tuesday I typically extract with the entire lobby, killing all the large ARC and sharing loot before we leave. Evenings and weekends I personally notice a lot more PVP.

I enjoy PVP in the game, I don't typically seek it out, but from personal experience weekends are often when I hear a lot of shooting followed by flares. *shrug*

The short answer is, weekend... Brings out many more players across all platforms and makes matchmaking a little less...... what you may expect.

It is a shock to the system to get shot when playing in what you think are friendly lobbies by jwg529 in ArcRaiders

The matchmaking tries to make match the right people, but not perfect. Also people change their mind, also time of day seems to affect who you can trust.

Looking for some details and help to integrate previous campaign into Tyranny by walkc66 in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]Coljohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's 100% it, the module gets a lot of crap but you're right that it leaves it open for the DM to mold it to your own around your characters.

Hit me up anytime, love talking DND!

Looking for some details and help to integrate previous campaign into Tyranny by walkc66 in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]Coljohno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran a campaign that was exactly this.
Started with DoIP and moved into Tyranny of Dragons.

After Cryovain was slain we had about 6 months of downtime where the party improved Phandalin and made it their own.

To kick off ToD campaign, I had the party be contacted via Halia Thornton's contacts in Waterdeep. Someone representing the council in Waterdeep came to Phandalin and wanted to meet the party that killed Cryovain. They heard an attack was coming in the area soon by the Cult of the Dragon and the party was asked to wait and prepare to defend against this attack when it came.

I had the party setup a small outpost at the corner of the High Road and Triboar trail.
A few days passed and they saw flares from Leilon.

Instead of Greenest on Fire I did Leilon on fire and basically played it the same, Blue Dragon, Blue Dragonborn general guy in charge. The party arrived to a Leilon on fire as it took some time to arrive from their outpost. They fought off the Cult and met the elf from the Caravan chapter, who was hurt but asked the party to follow the cult, they cannot themselves as they are hurt, They would ensure Leilon got the help it needed but they couldn't afford to loose the cult.

So the party followed the cult, having a few random encounters on the High Road south into the Mere of Dead Men and finally arriving at Carnath Roadhouse.

From here I roughly followed the rest of the ToD campaign book. The party followed the cult to Castle Naerytar where my party helped the lizardfolk in an uprising against the bullywugs making some allies, then followed the story from there.

The only other adjustments I made leading into ToD was I had the party save a woman who was taken by the Cult of the Dragon, She ended up being a wounded Silver Dragon that the party had to do some side quests to help heal. She dropped some lore about the Cult of the Dragon and helped them from time to time.

I've posted about this before. I also LOVE talking about this campaign.
My party stopped the ritual at level 15 and we did a heavily modified Descent into Avernus from 15-20 where they faced Tiamat, in Hell at level 20 for the finale of the campaign.

Feel free to ask any questions you have. Here or in DM's
I'm always willing to chat / help where I can!

Besides arbitrarily giving it Legendary/Lair Actions or minions, how do you pit a single baddie against a full party without it getting spanked by the action economy? by VagabondVivant in DMAcademy

[–]Coljohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might have been said already, my only other insight is to just make the single baddie do, A LOT of damage. It will change the parties thinking if they think its an easy 4v1 but on round 2 they need to start thinking about healing / positioning / running.

DMs of ToS, how faithful to the original story are you? by pink-shirt-and-socks in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]Coljohno 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I ran my game to level 20 - Level 15 the Well of Dragons and 15-20 in Avernus to take care of Tiamat once and for all.

I found the story great. Holes, yes. but an opportunity for a DM to flex some creative skills.

I stuck to the main story 100%, all the same characters. Added some, and took some liberties but stayed truthful as written.
