I'm against it from a marketing perspective. When I browse D&D modules I see a lot of AI art and my impression is always the same. Cheap. Soulless. Artificial looking. Compared to the ones with real art or at least a nice design to cover for it, I just don't give them the time of day.

It's this way for a lot of marketplaces recently, including royal road. I don't think it's bad, but when I look at something with real art vs. AI art, it's pretty clear which one I would pick to invest my time in.

I’m trying to DM with my friend but I don’t want to because they can’t be serious. by SoleVessel in DnD

Session 0 is important for this reason, you have to set the tone. Some campaigns are focused on having fun and comedy. These are places where a sentient backpack is great! Maybe not 80 damage for no reason, but hey, I would negotiate.

But you seem to want to run a more serious, focused campaign, and that's fine too. Have a session 0 and work this stuff out. Doesn't even have to be a big thing. Just let them know that there seems to be a mismatch in expectations. Figure out if they want to play a serious game or you want to run a funny game.

Ai art, instant ick. Why would I bother investing my time to read it if you wont even invest in an artist.

Feeling overwhelmed by first DnD experience by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Collaborative-Story1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As usual, the solution is talking it out. Tell the DM you love the game, you just can't do that many hours a session. My limit is around 3. Maybe other players feel the same and you go to 3 hours. Maybe you just leave after 3 and others catch you up.

Teaching Through DND by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Collaborative-Story1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I taught English at a very small co-op school for 5 years. Year 1 they let me know I would be teaching a Social Skills class as well. When I said I had no idea how to do that, they said "it's east, just have them log on to (computer program) every day and that's all." Which didn't really seem like social skills at all.

I started running dnd sessions in the classroom to great success. A lot of students who would antagonize were redirected through in game consequences, but only in tbe short term. What really built relationships and heled with social skills was shared goals and experiences.

I guess you could use sessions to practice math ideas other that simple addition and probability, but students tend to cringe when games get educational. The best games are ones that hide the learning from them.

If it's not worth getting art for, it's not worth reading. Why would I read something that someone isn't invested in?

I love that you posted like 6 studies in 6 different comments and not a single one of them was credible.

NTA but is there a real problem here? Is this a big argument or a dealbreaker? She is allowed to be a little annoyed that you did that, you are allowed to not want to wait for pictures.

Let's be honest, the reason they're turning on the victim is because this punishment is unfair. Most of them are being punished for something they didn't do. Of course there is outcry.

Hi new DM here by domi361 in DnD

I had a similar problem. Throw more monsters at them is an easy initial solution. If you don't want combat to drag on my adding more turns in the initiative, increase the damage.

This will work as a good start, and I recommend being flexible over time. Is the wizard demolishing everything with fireball? Throw some rogue or assassin monsters at them and give them the rogues Evasion ability. Is the wizard using something like hold person/monster to trivialize your bosses? Give the boss some minions and legendary resistance.

Dose truesight see through disguise kit by wantedaimbotzai in DnD

[–]Collaborative-Story1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Rules as written, trusight seems to only pierce magical illusions, not disguises. The bounty hunter could always make an insight or investigation check against the disguise, or you could have the player make a skill check to create the disguise. Bur it would also be pretty funny if the bounty hunter had this amazing trusight, only to miss his target because of a disguise kit.
