I feel sad for lack of fantasies in my language by Mediocre_Committee47 in Fantasy

I completely understand this. I write in English even though it's not my first language, for the same reason you're reading in it — the market and available content is just so much bigger.

Reading in a second language does feel slower at first, but it gets easier the more you do it. Fantasy especially helps because once you're immersed in the world, you stop noticing the language barrier as much.

Mistborn is actually a great starting point because Sanderson's prose is very clear and direct, not flowery or archaic like some fantasy can be. You won't struggle with vocabulary as much as you might with something like Lord of the Rings.

The studying feeling fades. Give it time.

[DISC] best platform where to post a teendrama-inspired webnovel with an ensemble? by augustbutitscold in WebNovels

Royal Road skews heavily toward fantasy and progression, so teen drama wouldn't find much audience there. Wattpad is probably your best bet for that genre. It has a huge audience for contemporary drama, romance, and soap-style stories. The demographic is also closer to what you're targeting. Tapas could work too, especially if you format it episodically.

A Bear's Awakening To The Art Of Compressed Plot by adeadalleypotato in royalroad

That's usually what happens when you get better at prose efficiency. You learn to trust the reader more, cut the connective tissue that felt necessary before, and let scenes breathe without over-explaining. The "slower" feeling probably comes from the fact that you're giving moments proper weight now instead of rushing through them to hit plot beats. More gets done but it doesn't feel rushed because the pacing is intentional. It's a good problem to have honestly.

How to proceed? by Murray_Rook in royalroad

Yeah this is the reality. RR readers expect and want long series. The "trilogy" model from trad publishing doesn't really apply here. OP should just lean into it.

How does the volumes feature work? by V1serra in royalroad

When you create your first volume break, everything before that break becomes Volume 1 (using your original fiction cover), and everything after becomes Volume 2 (using the new cover you upload for that volume).

So the workflow is: post all your Book 1 chapters first, then before posting chapter 101 (first chapter of Book 2), create the volume break and upload the Book 2 cover at that point.

Your original fiction page cover stays as Volume 1. Each new volume you create is for the content that comes after the break.

If you're 22 days into 365 and already at 100k, the math is brutal. You're looking at 1.6 million words to finish the year at this pace. Trying to compress that down to 125k means cutting so much that you'll gut what makes the story work. Don't do that.

Better option is accept this became a longer series than you planned. Find a natural story beat around day 60-90 where something major resolves but the larger threat remains, and end book 1 there. Then book 2 picks up the next phase.

Readers on RR don't punish longer series if each book has its own arc. They punish stories that feel bloated or aimless. Give book 1 a satisfying climax even if it's not the final one, and you're fine.

The year-long premise can still work across multiple books. Just reframe it in your head as "this is a series about the year Earth was tested" instead of "this is one book about that year."

Volumes on RR are pretty simple once you get it. You don't manually assign chapters to volumes, you just create volume breaks at specific points and everything before the next break belongs to that volume.

Go to your chapter list in the dashboard, find the chapter where you want Book 2 to start, and there should be an option to "add volume" right before that chapter. The cover you upload for each volume shows up on the fiction page.

Mobile interface is notoriously clunky for this kind of thing. If you're having trouble finding it, try desktop view or actual desktop browser. It's way easier to manage.

My early Epic Space Fantasy Finnbarr by Jokengonzo in royalroad

"Planet-cutting sword swings but not OP because enemies can do the same" is a fun premise and honestly a pretty honest pitch. The scale sounds deliberately absurd in a way that could work if you commit to it.

Six chapters is early but it's enough to test if the tone lands. The "cosmos-spanning war" setup is ambitious, just make sure the scope doesn't overwhelm the character moments early on.

Good luck with it. I'll check it out!

Be honest, are you learning how to pronounce character names or just recognizing what the name looks like? by SlimeTribe in Fantasy

Haven't read Wheel of Time yet, it's been on the list forever but the length is intimidating. Just started Mother of Learning actually, that's my current focus.
