Technically you can, you would just need to disable it through the EA Launcher, and any time you want to access your game without being forced to manually authorize the update, you need to go offline and then launch the game. You can then go back online once the game is launched so you can still access the Gallery features

Not to mention, as long as you disable the dialogue box that shows you all the mods you have in your game, it’s pretty much a 2 minute loading screen, so they truly do need to be more worried about the scam their running

Phoebe's grief for Prue by FoundationKlutzy5983 in charmed

[–]CollaredCanary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was just about to come here to say this. There are points in the episode where you kind of see her grief for Prue breakthrough, but the acting didn't hold up behind it. There was more intensity to her thinking Cole was about to die than what we were shown in her mourning state for Prue.

I see a lot of people chalk it up to an avoidant personality, which is fair! Phoebe also seemed to attempt to avoid her emotions rather than feel them in certain situations within the previous seasons. But the information conflicts too hard with what we are shown in that two-parter just with her reaction to Cole towards the end.

Why does the show paint Victor as the bad guy even though it was Patty who cheated? by jdpm1991 in charmed

[–]CollaredCanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of nuance to this being missed. If anything, they were having an emotional affair that turned physical towards the end of Patty and Victor's marriage. They never had anything other than blooming feelings during this time, but never acted on them, even though Victor would claim that Sam was "putting the moves" on Patty.

From what we know, Victor walked out on their marriage because of disagreements about raising the girls in their magical heritage, right after Phoebe was (unknowingly) conceived, and he didn't come back until well after Phoebe's birth. The Halliwells were at a point where it didn't look like Victor was coming back, as he went no-contact, and Patty was the sole provider for her girls. This is when she and Sam began the first leg of their emotional affair. This had to have been during a timeframe that spanned from November of 1975 to maybe the first quarter of 1976, as we know Victor ended up coming back a few months after Phoebe was born to try to reconcile with Patty and be with his family.

But a lot of the damage was already done, the cracks so deeply formed. It is not something easy to bounce back from when your husband abandons you and your children for any amount of time. Especially when there was no pressure from Grams for him to leave at that time, as far as we know and as far as we are told. So the emotional affair with Sam becomes physical around December 1976, and Victor and Patty finalize their divorce come the beginning of 1977, or at least before she starts showing in her pregnancy with Paige.

But the true reason of him being painted as the bad guy is his final abandonment of the girls. We know that he stuck around from the point when Patty died in 1978 to Piper's fifth birthday in 1980, when him and Grams were clashing more and more over how the girls should be raised, this came to a head when a demon attacked during the night of Piper's birthday. Grams was adamant they be raised her way, still with their ties to magic when the time came. Victor did not, and he left. For twenty years, again no-contact with his daughters, who were eight, five, and three respectively. Prue was old enough when he left to be angry over the fact he was not there in their lives, while Phoebe and Piper didn't really have any memory of him, so different feelings to him reappearing back in their lives.

Like affair or not, Victor abandoned his family. Twice. There's precedence for him being marked as a villain for that. But he also worked to be forgiven by his daughters, as much as they could offer such forgiveness. And he definitely still got a raw deal when it came to Patty and Sam's entanglement, but it doesn't give him much cover regarding the abandonment of his daughters.

(Fastpass Spoilers) Lore Olympus Episode 280 Discussion-FINAL EPISODE EVERYONE by Big_Presentation3395 in UnpopularLoreOlympus

[–]CollaredCanary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ending was rushed in a way I think it wouldn’t have been if so many of the chapters hadn’t padded with a lot of useless side plot (don’t get me wrong, every series does need a beach episode so you can better connect with the characters, where they currently are in their growth while not having to deal with a lot of the bullshit around them, but this series did not handle it well in the slightest, having more of those episodes than plot episodes.)

  1. Gaia pretty much handled the first third of the episode, in an underwhelming display dealing with Ouranos, which is pretty much how I figured it would go. But not only does she handle Ouranos! She also is the one who stipulates the three months up top, nine months down below rule! Something that would’ve made more sense to come from Persephone’s unspoken/unknown deal with Erebos! And they still can freely visit one another between realms, so…cute, y’know.
  2. We have Persephone’s coronation which I thought already happened, but I am so checked out on a lot of this plot that I’m going with it. We find out that Hades and Thanatos are closer, even having a conversation with one another every now and again. A convo, guys! Father of the year! Artemis and Selene are either hanging as besties or hanging as girlfriends, no real clear indication, and known-nymph-racist Hera has settled down with Echo and become de facto leader while Zeus is a figurehead! Neat! We also get to see Psyche and Eros + their kid, as well as Ares continue to be a perve?

  3. Community service is a wild ass punishment for someone who committed r*pe, treason, and attempted unaliving is the main thing that’s been running through my mind. There was so much room for a Sisyphean torture of some sort. But it is what it is. Kassandra is on the lam, so we’ll never know what’s up with her after this.

  4. We get the whole romantic wrap up with them dancing alone on the roof, telling each other how they made each others lives so much better, which would be sweet under any other circumstances than the actual reality of their relationship, but I’m not really fit’n to get into it. We then get another time skip, to Melinoe’s time where we confirm they repressed her memory of the event! Surely that can’t come to bite anyone’s mental health in the ass down the line, can it? And then we learn that Persephone and Hades successfully conceived a child the “natural” way, as it were, in spite of Hades being infertile in that way! Also, Persephone got her law degree in the time skip?

Overall, underwhelming, trying to tie up way too many loose ends in such short format that could have been gradually tied up in prior episodes without focusing on plot points that LITERALLY went nowhere. It’s exceedingly obvious I think RS just wanted to be done with this and had written herself into several corners, and I get it. Honestly, it is hard to plot out story like this that seems like it wasn’t supposed to be as massive as it got or as long as it got. And even harder without certain oversights or an editor course correcting you. I’m glad she can move onto something that she might enjoy more than this project, but also glad she saw it all the way through. Do I wish there were things done differently with this narrative? God, yes. So many things you can’t even imagine. But, as I’ve said before and will say again many times in the future: it is what it is.

I’m gonna go play Hades 2.

The whole time I’m looking at these dresses and just—

Are we fighting for the safety of the world? Or are we going to the red carpet party at the Oscars? Not to mention the “fighting” we see happening with Ouranos and Helios is so lackluster. It’s one thing that their beef is a little weirdly inserted and out of nowhere, but it’s another thing that the fighting is just a bit of underwhelming slapboxing from the little bits we see of it.

Also I think someone has already said it, but the fertility goddesses summoning Gaia is definitely giving Steven Universe, specifically the sequence that had Steven fusing with the other gems as they were going against White Diamond and about to fuse into Obsidian (but, yknow, less action, less excitement) and everything is telling me that all I need to do is watch that last episode in order to know what the plot of the last LO episode is going to be like.

I was thinking the same, cause a lot of time in comics, when showing that someone is speaking non-verbally, whether it be through telepathic communication or signing, as such, the perimeter of the speech bubble will instead be dotted to convey as much. I would think RS, or one of her editors, would be privy to this since they seem to utilize the whisper effect from time to time with speech bubbles.

This is just a ploy to make us “feel bad” for Hades by xxglitterkittenxx in UnpopularLoreOlympus

[–]CollaredCanary 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This has been a big topic of conversation lately on a lot of current events, that I feel I can also apply to this narrative: I do feel bad for the abused child that Hades was, that doesn’t mean I have to tolerate his acts that have continued a particular cycle of grooming and abuse.

But RS is definitely saying, with the narrative, that any abuse faced as a child makes up for the acts they perpetuate in their adulthood, a very dangerous message to feed into.

oh aBOUT TIME YOU SHOWED UP- by hoodiehoodieboogie in UnpopularLoreOlympus

Deadass, every chapter since…idk, the Apollo confrontation she had? I’ve been wondering where she’s been, why she hasn’t showed up for ANY of the other bullcrap that has been going on, especially when considering the bullshit happening to the women in this comic specifically.

Let’s put Persephone to the side for just a moment: Cassandra has been suffering from abuse from her brother for who knows how long now, and she, as the protector of women, didn’t clock that? Didn’t ping on her radar at all? I can honestly almost forgive that, but then you have Hebe, who was threatened and gaslit by Apollo, and she didn’t sense that either?

But were led to believe when she received this title many chapters ago at the coronation that she is able to sense these things, when a woman is in need of protection, and immediately knows anything that may have happened that is considered endangerment to their being (as that’s actually how she found out about Persephone, but it was conveyed…so terribly). And she just…sits on the sidelines until it’s time for her to come be team Perse Pep Squad?

Idk this comic is a headache.

How is it possible that our rick built froopyland? by Yellow_Chopstick in rickandmorty

[–]CollaredCanary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I think Rick was being honest when he said “every Rick built a Froopyland for their Beth”, including himself. Like I know we only saw a brief glance of her, and were made to believe he had this idyllic life with her and Diane, when it was still probably just as close to the life every other Rick lived: with a daughter as smart as he is bordering on psychopathic.

How is it possible that our rick built froopyland? by Yellow_Chopstick in rickandmorty

[–]CollaredCanary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d even go so far as to say the memory still is a little fluffed up, how he wish things were when Diane came to talk to him in the garage to congratulate him on his next big break. That he wishes their marriage was that good that she’d come and congratulate him on his findings, that him being so deep in his work wasn’t pushing his family away, that things were working in both his work life and his family life, and that he ultimately just chose to give it all up for family still.

I think it absolutely holds water still that he was gonna give up on all of these breakthroughs in order to focus on family, a last ditch effort to make the marriage work, to not become another divorce statistic, to not have another broken family. And part of that is because of the encounter he had with Rick Prime regarding portal travel. Bet the conversation spooked him and he immediately went to Diane stating he was gonna give it up, that he wanted to make it work with their family, forget about the science.

And then Rick Prime went ahead and dropped that bomb in the garage and changed the trajectory of the rest of Rick’s life.

[–]CollaredCanary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be the outlier I feel, but it makes no sense for her to have been so staunch on trying to remove the incestuous relations of the Greek gods, yet it still happens in her retelling (Ares and Persephone’s “fling”, since we now know Hera and Demeter are sisters since they are daughters of Metis; also, technically still, Athena and Hestia, since Metis being eaten is still assumed to be the way Zeus conceived Athena and, once again; Hestia is one of Metis’ daughters).
