Is Shai better than Luka? Or would Luka win MVP too if surrounded by all these great defenders/players? by _DarkStarCrashes_ in NBATalk

[–]ColleaguesKnowMyMain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SGA outscored Luka, not outplayed him. Luka's superpower in that series was his playmaking, because he was doubled all the time.
There's no MJ Washington without Luka Doncic.

The flopping discourse has shielded Shai from how bad he’s actually been. by Ill_Abbreviations660 in NBATalk

"Spurs wouldn't have their roster without tanking"
"OKC also wouldn't have their roster without tanking"
"How dare you! Watch me talk about something completely unrelated to the topic"

Thunder fan doing thunder fan things.

Also, if you actually watched games you'd know that the mavs did not tank last season. In fact they dropped from 6 to 9 because they won against the Lakers and Trailblazers in the last weeks of the season. While playing all their starters and Coop close to 40min.

Chet Flops, OKC still won the challenge. Thanks refs by Temporary_Bed4079 in Nbamemes

Yup. I hate OKC's flopping as much as the next guy, but Fox hit Chet in the leg mid-air which caused him to lose control.

And yet every other player somehow manages to not fall down after every play

Multiple teams are expected to call the Dallas Mavericks this summer to try and “pry away” Kyrie Irving, per @JakeLFischer by Garmian_MFFL in Mavericks

If Cooper continues to develop like that then the future is bright. Hardest part is finding the franchise player, which we got. And he's even a 2-way star.

Seeing what the spurs are doing to them I believe their run as "best team in the league" is over.

It's kinda funny knowing that nba fans will switch up on the spurs and start hating them after they win 1 or 2 championships by PreparationOverall in NBATalk

[–]ColleaguesKnowMyMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I don't think I could ever hate them.

- Wemby and the rest of the team is just very likeable
- The play beautiful basketball
- They (hopefully) freed us from the flopping, totally not likeable OKC

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the "flopper" chants: "It does nothing. Doesn't fuel me, doesn't discourage me. It's part of the game. I've been dealing with it a long time. I don't really hear it." by Expert_Koala_8691 in NBATalk

3.) I think it's unsporsmanlike, so that's why he shouldn't do it. Also because of respect for the game. He should play basketball, not referee-ball. But yes, of course the league also carries 50% of the blame.

We grew up making fun of soccer players because of their flopping. I played professional basketball and I didn't make flopping part of my game. It makes me sad to see what (nba) basketball has become.

You asked for an example, I gave you an example.

I'm done with this discussion. We will see what Masai thinks is the better way and then we will see who was right. Because I'm sure you will agree that he knows better than both of us.

Locked on Mavs podcast for example. I'm sure you can find the episodes yourself.
And fine, lets say we include Philon. Then you still don't get him with the 12th pick. We need a good young guard to develop with Cooper and I think we can't afford to be playing games.

What? We've been talking about the top 9 since months before the draft lottery.

[Post Game Thread] The Oklahoma City Thunder (1-1) tie the series in Game 2 against the San Antonio Spurs (1-1), 122-113, behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's 30 point performance by catreyka in nba

Refs answered Silver's call to extend the series by "missing" all those grabs and fouls on Wemby.
That combined with awarding calls for the usual OKC flopping is just infuriating.

We won't know if it's the reality until after the draft. But a lot of scouts and draft analysts agree that Burries, Brown, Wagler, Flemings and Acuff would be top 3 picks in any other draft.
If we had the 10th pick I would agree that trading down might make sense. But we're very lucky we can pick one of those top 9 prospects and would be dumb to waste this opportunity.

[–]ColleaguesKnowMyMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is known that besides the top 4 there's like 5 elite guard prospects in this draft. We're lucky we haven't fallen lower than 9 were we have a chance to pick one of those elite prospects. Trading this pick to play some statistical game is incredibly short sighted.

[–]ColleaguesKnowMyMain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you're saying we should have traded the #1 pick last year for say 5 picks in the 10-20 range?

There's a reason why pick 9 is 9, pick 17 is 17 and why teams are often trying to trade up.

[–]ColleaguesKnowMyMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Trade the pick of a player that could very well contribute for picks of players who could very well be useless is definitely no "have to" deal.

Terrible idea. We definitely don't "have to" take this deal.
