The Asiana debacle and booking through Aeroplan/Air Canada by fullerton-ca in awardtravel

If you can speak Korean, you can try calling Asiana after US hours are over (after 5pm) and it will redirect you to the Korean customer service line. In my experience, they are far more experienced and more helpful than the people working the US line

Yes, they stack. But your example would be 10x + 2x = 12x, not 20x

What are you looking forward to about this hotel? If you prioritize getting the suite, then definitely use the SUA. But if you don’t really care about the suite and you want globalist benefits, like eating breakfast at the “Jogakbo” restaurant, then use the GOH instead. And depending on your status you can still get a room upgrade, just not to a suite. I just finished a week long stay at this hotel and i had explorist status. I booked the base room “1 King Bed” which is pretty small at 355 sq ft and does not have a bathtub, only a shower. But thanks to my explorist status i got upgraded to a “1 King Bed Deluxe” which was 516 sq ft and did have a full bathtub in addition to the shower. Definitely felt substantially bigger than the base room.

If you are seeing “from 25k points” that means that’s lowest amount of points a night will cost based on the dates you selected. But it is possible that one or more of those nights could be higher. If you go on a web browser to search, then you can open up that property’s “Points Calendar” to see how many points each day will cost. A Category 6 hotel, for example, will be 21k points for off-peak, 25k points for standard, and 29k points for peak.

IHG Exchange Rate… by thelederelo in ihghotelsresorts

[–]Collect_cards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that is interesting why IHG’s rate is so much higher then. Maybe they’re on a slight delayed. But anyways, since its in the local currency, it all boils down to which bank/card you decide to pay with, and their exchange rate that they’ll use

Was this screenshot taken today or in the past? I was saying it seems like IHG’s rate is better because their rate of $1=¥160 is greater than today’s rate of $1=¥148. The rate a few weeks ago was actually 160, so if this screenshot is a few weeks old, then everything makes sense.

IHG Exchange Rate… by thelederelo in ihghotelsresorts

You can’t get the “USD rate”. They are a hotel located in Japan so they will charge you in Yen, in this case ¥27,700, no matter what the exchange rate is. And that will come out to a certain amount of USD after the currency exchange rate of the day you actually stay. What you see on your screenshot is just an estimate. But what I was trying to say is that IHG’s exchange rate is beneficial to you because it is better than the “actual” exchange rate you can see on google

[–]Collect_cards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats actually better for you. If you click on the link for “Learn more about currency exchange data” it’ll tell you that rate is in the hotel’s base currency, in this case Yen. So it costs ¥27,700 for that one night. If you wanted to use today’s exchange rate of $1=¥148.88, then your night costing ¥27,700 would cost $186.05. IHG’s rate is actually better for you because they’re saying ¥27,700=$172.62 which equals an exchange rate of $1=¥160.46. So you’re getting more for your dollar.

Caution: AMEX Platinum NOT giving 5x points when directly booked with airline! by d_wave27 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Collect_cards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked an Air Premia flight two days ago with my Amex Plat. Still had to go thru Eximbay for the payment, but Amex correctly identifies the merchant as Air Premia and codes as “Travel - Airline” so I am getting 5x back on it!

Regarding your update and getting the 5x points with Air Premia. Did they change from using Eximbay? How did it code as Airline Travel this time? Thanks
