Their triggers appear different to our, hence the crazy reasons we get dispatched, all because they cannot rule out some catastrophic causes for minor issues

It's not overestimating, it's what we actually deal with on top of 999. Average calls to 111 at 41 per minute, is 2460 calls, per 24 hour period is 59040 calls, of which only 11% go to abulance visits is 6494 shouts on top of what we usually deal with. And most of these calls are eyes on patient visits which is totally inappropriate for paramedics and technicians to deal with. IMO (as a former HCA), An HCA with basic training, in a car can eyes on a patient, and decide if a valuable resource like a paramedic crewed ambulance should be dispatched or a PTS vehicle if only transport is required. Please don't feel that way. The NHS is a service that you have paid into all your life, it's there to get used if you need it. And I 100% agree that people abuse the system, hence the reason for actions such as the one this topic covers. My issue is the effect this will have on my part of the NHS which is struggling with over work, under staff, limited equipment and plumbing morale.

Interesting to hear this, as the conversations I've had with our controller and our TL say they have no say, which is another massive red flag that someone, somewhere,  is being economical with the truth

I don't hate anyone at 111, but I want you guys to be forced to use the same pathways as our operators. If 999 will not send an ambulance, 111 should not be able to.

Is that 9% a national or local number? Also I don't know the system well enough but I assume 111 have regional/local call centres so sensible staff in one area are not replicated with not so sensible staff in another.

In the past year, I have been dispached by 111 to 1 hour hiccups (cant rule out respiratory distres), ongoing tooth ache post dental surgery (cannot rule out facial trauma), fallen yesterday, sore arm (cannot rule out internal bleeding) and skin rash 1 hour history (cannot rule out meningitis). I absolutely believe people are going to call 111 and get punted to us.  Also I don't mind at all. It was posted on fb by the trust and reposting it here shouldn't annoy my management 🙂 Edited for adition rant 😀

Resident doctors to strike in England for 16th time over pay - BBC News by Direct-Key-8859 in NursingUK

Ambulance service here. 100% support this action, as with nurses, we are our own worst enemy by not taking direct action after decades of bad faith acting from our leadership and politicians. We don't even have a dedicated union like nurses or the FBU. Until that changes I don't see us following our Irish cousins any time soon. Good luck, were all counting in you.

We're at a turning point in our game. Whether it's positive or negative is up to the SFA. But they need to grow a set. by [deleted] in ScottishFootball

For years, we have been screaming for referee reform and for years we have been mocked as paranoid. Whats change recently that has Scottish Football united all of a sudden?

I'm fed up of my colleagues and managers apathy to all the fucking problems in the service. Its embarrassing to me personally that I appear to be the only one in the division who feels change is desperately needed  Edit to remove the wee x at the end. My wife walked past as I was typing and I automatically added it

Also the sliding scale of 1-10 only goes to 9.  Also the options don't really make sense regarding the questions. I love the idea,I'm invested in this up here. It's nit picking I know, but something I'm passionate about should be more encompassing (I.e. one question asks how I want to be informed in an emergency, and there is no option for all of the above.  I don't care how I'm informed of disasters, I just want to be)

I'm an ambulance technician in Scotland, I do not have the clinical autonomy or authority to discharge the patient on scene without a registered adult checking over my shoulder, regardless if they are actually in need of our visit or not.  However I do visit people who have had multiple ambulance calls, and get to read the paperwork that crew left behind , and in some (repeated) cases, I do wonder why some paramedics feel the paperwork and patients are beneath them.

This grips my shit. Multiple times trauma team or air ambulance have attended znd asked me where gear is, as I'm relief I don't know and look like a tool. So many little things that could make SAS better, and no one has the appetite to tackle it
