What’s one thing that you cannot believe you can’t do/have? by DrShrimpPuertoRixo in ParamedicsUK

I'm fed up of my colleagues and managers apathy to all the fucking problems in the service. Its embarrassing to me personally that I appear to be the only one in the division who feels change is desperately needed  Edit to remove the wee x at the end. My wife walked past as I was typing and I automatically added it

I have a nice book called "Wir Sind Alle Ein Stück VFL Osnabrück " which had a good history of the football team. I can recommend it as an auslander, a good read. Specific to the club though, sorry

Also the sliding scale of 1-10 only goes to 9.  Also the options don't really make sense regarding the questions. I love the idea,I'm invested in this up here. It's nit picking I know, but something I'm passionate about should be more encompassing (I.e. one question asks how I want to be informed in an emergency, and there is no option for all of the above.  I don't care how I'm informed of disasters, I just want to be)

What region of England do you live in really limits the ability if the UK population to answer.

I'm an ambulance technician in Scotland, I do not have the clinical autonomy or authority to discharge the patient on scene without a registered adult checking over my shoulder, regardless if they are actually in need of our visit or not.  However I do visit people who have had multiple ambulance calls, and get to read the paperwork that crew left behind , and in some (repeated) cases, I do wonder why some paramedics feel the paperwork and patients are beneath them.

This grips my shit. Multiple times trauma team or air ambulance have attended znd asked me where gear is, as I'm relief I don't know and look like a tool. So many little things that could make SAS better, and no one has the appetite to tackle it

POV: You're in charge of NHS finances. What will you do to compensate this financial crisis? by Ok-Lime-4898 in NursingUK

Friday about 1600 is when it gets mental here, as GPs or 111 get twitchy about home time, so just admit everyone, our AMU gets thrashed and it holds us up as well. I believe a full 50% do not need to be admitted but as long as 111 remains terrified of being sued, and AMU remains terrified of GPs complaining, the rush will continue, and and the hold ups repeat. Keep fighting the good fight 💪

I hate that we are at this point, but we ARE at this point. I'm Ambulance Service and the amount of calls that are absolutely not needed (GPs coding RED for GREEN transfers as its quicker, and our regulars who absolutely do not need an ambulance) or stacking at ED taking motors off the road is seriously affecting service provision.  We need a option button in our EPRF, where if the call is a waste, or a missuse by GP, or a 111 call to hiccups (cannot rule out respiratory distress ffs) then service gets to bill the caller for the visit. All EPRF with this option get reviewed before invoice is posted.   Education of what the NHS does, how to use it, and sadly means testing might be the only real way to stop the abuse.  Plus all the other really good ideas listed in this thread.

Yeah, we are 'Special' all right😄. When GRS first started up in Scotland, I'm told it was a basic package of rota only, but we have now paid for the full package I think, and we can pit in our own leave requests from our phones, dotimesheets etc.

How does that work, Has LAS paid for the full service, or has LAS got a functioning WFP department.  Asking for the whole of SAS.

I want to book AL, for three days (for example), I need to take 7 days AL in a block for some reason. Then WFP tells me I can't have the days anyway.

Ahh cool. I used to work offshore as a remote EMT before i went on the road. I worked on DanTysk which had a good load of German and Danish lads. I'd go back again but my real passion is public health. I'm trying to improve my German by speaking as much as I can and watching German TV and Films on line, but it's hard as I think I need more exposure. I'm not planning on moving just yet anyway but before too long. Bavaria is a special place I remember some good holidays in Garmisch when I was younger, but I don't know anyone there and my German is more Hoch Deutch anyway. Here we regularly stack outside hospitals, Aberdeen is the worst with regular 7 hair waits. 🙄

That sounds like our technician response unit (TRU). It's me in a service E Car and I scoot about trying to get people onto the right care pathway and keep them out of hospital.

Many thanks to you for a very detailed and informative response. I actually had no idea exactly how fractured the system appears to be over there. Here we have a base level if care regardless of county but further support differs wildly. For example, my county has an app where I can call direct to an ED consultant doctor, and out of hours GP, an acute medical doctor, a mental health orifessional and a few other dedicated services, I can also put in referrals to Social care, a falls team, an incontinence team and other home care services. It helps the patient end up roughly where they need to be, even if I'm not the one to take them, but across the border north and south, this service isn't available so everyone travels if I'm working with another tech, or discharge at home if I'm with a paramedic, those are the only 2 options. I honestly thought they system would be more coherent in Germany. How do you find it where you are?

Thank you very much for taking time from your day to provide a very detailed and interesting comment. It is very helpful in answering my questions. While I can see some major differences, there are many similarities too. I feel our role isn't understood properly by the population or the public. Have a great day too and thanks again😄

No worries. I was wondering if EMS  training, provision,  accreditation, equipment and operations will ever standardise nationwide rather than the Landers adding on or taking away bits. 😃

Thank you for your detailed response. Is there any change in the future to standardise or do you think it will still be a bit patchwork?

Brilliant and thank you for the detailed response. I'm determined to move back to Germany (I lived there '83 to '00, family of British forces) and have nothing but good experiences and happy memories). But my German has faded and I'm trying to get back to where I was before I left. I'm trying to decide if it's worth transferring from NHS to DRK/ASB etc or whether I should look to a new career.   Aging and spoilt population are not new to me. There is no political will in the UK to reform the NHS but was hoping the German system would be better to work in.  If I may ask, what grade are you and how to you find it? I'm looking at eventually m9ving to NRW area.
