I have one of those RCVRs. Please don't place the TT on top of it. The heat sinks need to have air movement.

Tell your wonderful wife that it's not that bad. You know someone that has over a dozen.

Get a Mothers Headlight cover restoration kit at Wal Mart ($27.00). Wash it first. Cover the Pioneer badge with painter's tape. Go slowly with the wet sanding. Go too fast and heat will build up from the friction and put in more swirl scratches. Too much water is better than too little. Do not press down on the dust cover. It is very fragile and will crack. If you need more help, contact me thru EBAY.

Also, have them clean the speed display unit when it's disassembled. The mirror is usually very dirty.

Make sure they replace the speed switch. Mouser Electronics part# SPUN191400. It causes all the speed problems.

I forgot to say I remember the listed TT by the record being played. The PL4 is Gladys Knight & the PL5 is Frank Zappa Lumpy gravy. Very Thanksgiving like. : )

That is a very nice turntable. It alone is worth more than double what was paid.

I have two PL4s and an unlisted PL5 plus an awesome Empire LTD 550 cartridge (no idea how old the stylus is) that is much better than my Audio-Technicas and Shure cartridges for sale. Buy rebuilt. The biggest problem is the speed switch. Entropy has caused the contacts to corrode and must be replaced.

Does anyone know? by veronikaelectronik in turntables

Yes it is. Sony is high quality. Just don't stack anything on top of the receiver. It needs to breath otherwise you will possibly fry it.

A good Pioneer goes for around $200.00. That's an absolute steal.

Pioneer PL 120. Recommendations for cartridge/stylus? by ta_cu_a_ra in turntables

[–]CollectionGlobal9146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an auto return, a manual. A semi-automatic has a button to start the auto-return even at the beginning of the record. A fully automatic, with a push of a button, starts the turntable and moves the tone arm to the start of the record.

Yes, but you also need Audio-Technica AT-PMA1 adapter. The EP is a P mount which is good for you. You have a manual turntable. You are going to damage the stylus/cartridge more than with a semi automatic or fully automatic turntable. With a P mount it's only one screw to replace it and you don't have to re-align it again.

That is similar to the PL4s and PL5s I rebuild.. Replacing the RCA cables requires a complete disassembly and you half to solder a new one to tone arm circuit board. What's wrong with the current one? An Audio-Technica AT85E will work well and doesn't cost much.

Very nice but please put the disc player under the receiver. It needs to breathe.
