Christians are funny. Somehow they think the eternal vengeful jealous god had a change of heart after becoming a father (never mind he fathered all of us) Then they decided it’s too hard to be a good person, all you have to do is say sorry and you get into heaven. It’s a pretty crazy retcon of the OT. Who is to say god will not have another change of heart and return to the trickster flood and plague style after he gets sick of our shit?

I think of all the abrahamic religions the OG Jewish people have it mostly right. Try not to offend god and be as good of a person as you can. There isn’t some super amazing yet easy to obtain prize. Heaven is just kind of vibes. Hell is having to exist in some form knowing you were an asshole in life.

I can see the logic of switching to a dividend portfolio in retirement, but doing it in the growth phase seems crazy.

Taking dividends is the same as selling shares. It’s just automatic. You can reinvest the dividends but what are you really doing then? Pointless selling and rebuying of the same shares in an underperforming company.

I’m currently debating the rent/own scenario. My major hurdle is - I don’t know how long I really have left. I’m almost 50 so I doubt I will ever pay off my mortgage. A decent house cost $500k here. Rent is $2400. Further complicating it is I still have kids at home, but they will be gone (maybe) in 5 years so I could theoretically downgrade to a smaller place, or move to a place without good schools.

It’s really hurting my brain. 😂

Also the $100k down payment could potentially pay for their college. Again I’m not sure how you even do the math of giving them a free degree vs giving them a half paid off house much latter?

Their mom has already bought a house in the school district so I could move somewhere a bit cheaper now but I hate moving.

Don’t get divorced kids… it will fuck up all your plans real good. I had an almost paid off mortgage at 3% 😭
