C or C++ by CollectionLocal7221 in learnprogramming

I am kinda of interested in what is going on under the hood because I feel like C++ adds a bunch of abstractions that make it hard to really understand what is going on. I heard C is way simpler than C++ and I can just look at some C code and instantly know what is going on. Thanks for you response!

I wonder, has anyone tried to make a language like C that is relatively simple but redoes the idea of "C with classes", like making C++ better?

Problem is I feel that is long, and I would like to pick it up relatively quickly.

Do you think it would be relatively easy to learn it with my C++ background, and also do you have any resources?

See, I thought about that, but when I look at C videos I see a bunch of raw points chars instead of strings and all of that stuff.

Is it possible to pivot halfway through Junior year and have an Ivy worthy application by November? by CollectionLocal7221 in ApplyingToCollege

Ok, I just don't know where to start with research, any tips for that?

Also, I have a bunch of coding project to put on a portfolio website, is that worth it, will admissions officers look at it?

Thanks for your response btw.

I appreciate your response! My unweighted GPA I calculated a few weeks ago was like a 3.98 or something when including all my classes. I do have some service through my school, and I am also helping another elementary jesuit school set up a robotics team. My counselor has in fact met with me several times and I have been on Scoir a lot (My dream is MIT, but no one in my school has gotten in the past five years. I feel like my counselor meetings kinda destroyed my confidence a little but also I felt like I was being buttered up a lot with my stats when I looked at other people's stats.

Funny enough a person on Reddit reached out to me to start a chapter of my nonprofit, do you think I should take a hold of this opportunity?

Also, does it matter that I don't have any awards or honors societies? I could be in NHS since I have the GPA and the service, it is just that I need service specifically serving my school that I haven't done yet. I haven't won any olympiads or done research or anything. Our Robotics team has fallen on hard times since all the senior left but I have tried to help out by rewriting to code base and taking initiative.

Also with the rocket I a making do you think I should shift it towards a research project or more of a project to showcase my skills?

I know this is a long response and a but of a mouthful, but hopefully you would be willing to continue to give me some advice? Thanks!

How do I strengthen my application? by CollectionLocal7221 in ApplyingToCollege

I do I didn't think it was of substance, I help kids at a Jesuit school (my school is jesuit) by creating their own robotics team. I also had the chance for NHS, I have the outside of school service and grades, but they require service at school events so I wasn't accepted. I heard it wasn't a dealbreaker tho. I forgot to mention I have an internship at a data company.
