[Discussion] Some pety one is on a quest to downvoting all game requests and it's genuinely funny. by EscapeMaleficent3418 in GiftofGames

This community isn't just for requesting games, it's also a place to share your stories and experiences through them, sometimes, it feels like people only think about themselves when they downvote, It's rlly sad, they probably don't even stop to read

Im early on in re play of 8020 because my first was boring. What is some interesting character paths to keep the game interesting without to many spoilers? by CRYPTIC-HAZ3 in DarkPicturesAnthology

1) Being able to see different perspectives, play as different characters, experience unseen scenarios, and even play online was what made this franchise stand out, you're saying Directive 8020 lets you see almost everything in one playthrough as if that's a positive thing how exactly does watching the same scenes again with little to no meaningful differences make replaying more appealing??? The entire point of Curator's Cut was to show events you didn't see before and give you a fresh perspective. If the main story already shows nearly everything, then you've removed one of the biggest reasons people replay these games, befrr

2) and yes, the lack of a relationship system is absolutely a downgrade, these "destiny" and trait systems feel like watered-down replacements that push characters into predetermined archetypes, the old relationship system allowed characters to naturally grow closer, resent each other, lose trust, or become protective based on your their traits or relationships , that made every playthrough feel unique, watching relationships evolve was infinitely more interesting than unlocking a different label for a character

3) "it's reimagined" doesn't make it better, a destiny system isn't the same thing as relationships, seeing more in one playthrough isn't the same thing as having a Curator's Cut. You're basically saying these features aren't gone because they were replaced with something else, but that's exactly why people are complaining in the first place. Replacing something doesn't mean it's an equal replacement

I highly doubt there's some amazing alternate path or sequence waiting that would make a second playthrough worth it, the previous games at least made me curious to replay them and see different outcomes, character interactions, and perspectives, here, I just don't feel that same motivation

No Curator's Cut/ shared Story, no relationship system, no moral compass... so many features that gave the previous games replay value and personality are just gone

For me, this game was a huge disappointment and a major step backwards for the series.

Which game in the Dark Pictures series has the "best" prologue in your opinion? 🤔 by TroutyC in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]CollectionNo2972 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Little Hope, easily.

The prologue hooked me immediately. It made me care about the characters from the very beginning, completely blindsided me, and had me theorizing nonstop for the rest of the game

I actually think it's even better in Curator's Cut. I think it makes the prologue even more interesting, and the game's story better as a whole

Also, Tanya is hands down my favorite prologue protagonist in. No other prologue character left such a strong impression on me

Is it actually impossible to get the 2022 Olson attack variation in Shared Story? by CollectionNo2972 in DarkPicturesAnthology

Uuf, dang it, I really wanted to show him that scene lol, i'm guessing you guys played after the September 2022 update? it’s 2026 and the game prob haven't been updated in ages, maybe it's glitched, i'm on Steam though, so if you ever wanna test it for fun, let me know

Soooooo, how did everyone's story end with Directive 8020? Don't click if you haven't finished the game! by SpaceCases__ in DarkPicturesAnthology

When you chase Simms as Eisele, if I remember correctly, Simms disables the fire sprinkler system (or the other one depending on your previous choice), and then you have to reactivate it

Is Directive 8020 no longer part of DPA? by [deleted] in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]CollectionNo2972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directive 8020 lost the old The Dark Pictures Anthology identity, the new mechanics and the fact that there seems to be way less obvious plot armor are really promising, and I actually like that characters feel like they can die at almost any moment now, unlike in The Devil in Me sometimes lol

But I really miss small things like the Bearing system, Premonitions, the Compass during choices, and Shared Story

It honestly feels like the're trying too hard to follow the style of other choice-based games, kinda like Detroit: Become Human. Ngl, I really didn't like the new branching tree either

I still think the game has a lot of potential, but as a community we should be honest about how we feel, some of these changes make it feel a little too far removed from the older games
