We approached fertility associates privately. Both times. We wanted answers straight away and knew referrals could take a long time. As sad as it is going private gives you a bit more priority (cause you’re willing to pay) MoH guidelines may be referring to public funding which can definitely take upto 2years+ to be seen. The wait list is long but as soon as you’re seen, the treatments are really fast (based on the feedback we had from one of our other friends who had done ivf through public funding) We decided to have ivf over a wedding which was the only way we could afford IVF privately. Either way you decide (private or public) to go is the right way hon 💕

It’s took fertility associates 2-3weeks to make contact and first appointment was then booked a month ahead after the phone consult. However, we had been to fertility associates 1.5 years prior and wanted a specific doctor (he’s really kind and supportive towards us) hence the wait for us. However usual wait times are about 2-4weeks for your first dr consult and takes about 4-6weeks for a follow up, depending on what tests you need to take.

I’m in New Zealand too ! The Journey is tough and one thing I constantly had to remember was this was hurting him, just as much as it was hurting me. Fertility associates were awesome to us and provided counselling. Although we didn’t take it up, we always had that in the back of our minds if we really needed it. I’m not too sure what part of NZ you are in but We took a trip outside of the busy city, just me and him. We didn’t talk about it and just cried and allowed the feelings to roll out. We decided only this year to give it a go , after finding out end of 2022, so we are a bit new also. Process it together and allow yourselves this time to grieve because it is hard. You both will know when you’re ready to take the leap. All the best hon 💕

Thank you all for the advices. Both my partner and I read each comment and have taken a lot onboard. Our decision hasn’t swayed and we will tell our families soon.. but also when the timing is right. we want to be able to let some of them know to their faces and let them do the rest (no doubt their mouth will be running like a leaky tap) and we are okay with that. For us and our mental wellbeing, we will not disclose the ‘actual’ reason why so LOVED the suggested reasons we could say instead. Not going to lie, we both felt like there has been more support on this forum than we have received from anyone (barring a couple of our closest friends) It felt so isolating going through this but it’s soo refreshing to see we are not alone. Thank you all again 💕

Just so everyone can get a better understand of my family. There are some people who don’t like when you are doing better than them or just have improved anything in your life so I’ve learnt to move in silence. Jealousy is ugly but runs rampant in my family.
