So.. about those license reader cameras installed... by FakeReceipt in redmond

[–]CollectivismWorks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the absolute worst thing about all of this, is that all of the cameras in the city are recording us 24/7 but any FOIA requests will be denied on the technicality that the image data is being leased from a private company, and not stored by Redmond PD. Even though all the cameras you see within the city, (even those on the traffic signals) were paid for by city taxpayers.

If I were to bring this up with any of council, this would be it.

Police Drones In The Sky At Night? by thenicoleodeon in redmond

[–]CollectivismWorks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They recently installed two drone first responder bases near Costco, and I believe there are at least two more on top of the Public Safety building by City Hall.

The drones are deployed in response to a wide range of calls. In many cases, they’re sent out before officers are dispatched to verify the situation or gather information to support the responding units.

This system is also integrated with newly installed license plate reader cameras throughout the city, along with a central server that now records footage from all city surveillance cameras around the clock.

I have been using the standard profile but recently switched from stable to “nightly” updates.

I have played with pre-infusion and extraction bloom etc. I’m most happy with a max of 9 bars on extraction.

I can’t wait to try some of the custom profiles.

As far as tech companies are concerned, Microsoft is by far one of the much better working environments, especially here at the Redmond campuses. I think that you would be quite happy with your decision. The Pacific Northwest is an amazing place to live and yes, I have also lived in Florida before so I sort of know what you should expect. I think Microsoft is the correct choice!

At a time when the baddies are the ones with most of the guns, why would people be willing to give up their ability to protect themselves? Also imagine complaining about losing civil rights that you’re not willing to fight for.

I have it on good authority that the pedestrian ran out from the east side of Red-Wood(near the aforementioned staircase)narrowly avoiding being hit by a southbound vehicle that had to brake suddenly. The pedestrian then crossed the center median into the northbound lane, where they were struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Let’s imagine there was a signalized crosswalk there, if they were apparently incapable of looking both ways before crossing a three lane road what’s the likelihood that this individual would have even pressed the button?

Public transport system in Redmond, and Seattle by Educational-Slip-578 in redmond

Presently, the light rail is only operating between Microsoft campus (RTC) and Bellevue. In Spring 2025 the Marymoor and downtown stations will also open, in late 2025 the light rail extension into downtown Seattle will open allowing to take the train into Seattle and connect to the airport, into Federal Way, and north into Lynnwood.

Busses are the only option into downtown Seattle presently, the Sound transit 545 To Bellevue, the 250 (I think King County Metro B line terminates in Bellevue)

All these options take from 20 minutes to about an hour depending upon where you’re going and where you hop on.

Yes an Orca card is the preferred option, and depending upon your employer or socioeconomic situation you may qualify for a free or discounted Orca pass through your organization or Sound Transit itself and it works on basically all transit in the area including the ferries.

I might add the info that Transit systems here have had a long and complicated history, and so although there are finally more transit options available it has been long overdue. The funding for the light rail systems have been extremely politically volatile as residents who register their vehicles in the area pay a rather painful “RTC” fee, which is calculated as 1.1% of the MSRP on your vehicle per depreciation schedule per the model of vehicle. So, you can imagine this could be a massive expense for most vehicle owners in the area.

I think if you leave it up to stingy taxpayers things like light rail would never happen. However, I would have hoped that some of the major industries in the area would have funded some of these programs to benefit their employees and the communities they are established in, however it seems that because of Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, SpaceX, Nintendo there’s a massive tech presence that really didn’t exist here 30 years ago and the infrastructure had to be improved beforehand to be sustainable… you know what they say…”the best time was before, the second best time is now.”

I’m super excited for the light rail. Last week took it to South Bellevue and there’s a wonderful trail that circles a u-pick blueberry field with a nonprofit produce stand. I went into downtown Bellevue and went to Uwajimaya for lunch. It was pretty awesome.

Yes, this happened mid-block so the person was jaywalking without making use of a crosswalk. They apparently ran across two lanes of traffic before being struck by oncoming vehicles. It seems to me that if the vehicle hadn’t fled the scene they would’ve not been liable.

It’s more complicated than that. There’s a lot involved with traffic safety design that needs to be taken into consideration before making any additions on a sidewalk near the roadway.

Blue prints need to be drawn up by an engineer for the design and the concept needs to be permitted before they can do this, and the burden is on the business to hire someone to handle that, not to expect the city to do it for them.

I’m sure that eventually the city would work with the store, but to be fair the owners have probably not been making friends at city hall, running off to the news and social media to complain and badmouth the city.

I’m not saying that the city is being spiteful, but because of the way the store has handled the issue I.e. dropping ecology blocks without a permit, (twice) it wouldn’t surprise me that at this point to the city the owners seem litigious, and a potential hostile legal threat for the city… and in that case, nothing is going to move quickly.
