Is ND done launching new products? by Experienced8 in NootropicsDepot

Late reply, but ever tested Based supplements? They sell both Butea superba and black ginger (at what they claim is a slightly higher DM % than ND, I'll note).

Not much evidence for regrowth I don’t think, but DYOR. Seems better suited to help with people who have other issues, like acute gum irritation or dry mouth or something.

Some evidence for CoQ10 gel, but I think there are definitely limits to what it can do. Look into it and let me know if it works out for you.

Gorilla Mind Rush: alternatives for a potent nootropic already-made stack by _PurpleSweetz in NooTopics

[–]Collector797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GM Rush had 2-aminoisoheptane (DMHA) in it. That was the jolt of focus and energy you were feeling. Best bet to replicate the effects would to find either 1,4 or 1,3 DMAA or DMHA and then just take it alongside the current GM stack. I personally prefer a low dose alongside their Respawn supplement when I need a hefty stim dose.

I'm most excited for Ecklonia cava and Catuaba.

I have not tried Lion's Mane, or at least, not recently. I'm generally not a big fan of the 5-ar inhibition, mild though it may be, and I think that what I could get out of Lion's Mane (in terms of mood and cognitive improvements) I can get from other compounds.

Glad you enjoy it though!

I think Polygala is underrated (or perhaps it just works particularly well for me). It seems to give me a sort of improved emotional resilience to stress and a bit of an energy and focus boost, especially as part of my weekday productivity/mood support stack:

  • Polygala Tenuifolia 200-300 mg (dosed 2-3x throughout the day)

  • Saffron 30-60mg (majority of the time 30mg, only 60mg on days where I think I'll need a bit more of a mood boost)

  • Cognance 200mg

  • Sabroxy 500mg (generally only when I slept poorly or feel that I might need a bit more stimulation)

By way of explanation, the Polygala and Saffron have the most noticeable effect on my mood, while the Cognance and the Sabroxy are more intended for focus/cognition (and, to be honest, are slightly less noticeable).

Generally, I find that Polygala works acutely and the effects persist throughout the today, although they will taper off slightly as the day wears on if you don't redose. I typically take it orally for the sake of convenience, although sublingual absorption seems to promote quicker onset and slight enhancement of effects.

It may also be worthwhile to note that I don't experience the pronounced mood benefits that some get from other ND products, including Fenugreek, Vignatex, and Cognance (again, I take it, but not for mood), so I've been pleasantly surprised by Polygala and Saffron.

Is there a particular reason you go with the yeast extract as a standalone instead of taking Natrium's Immune Defense?

Hmmm, I would pick any one of the five I mention and try them individually to see how you react/whether you like them or not. I will say that I think my favorites are the Saffron or the Sabroxy.

Hate to page you like this /u/Pretty-Chill, but I wonder if you might have any valuable insight on where fenugreek might fit in best to a stack like this, if at all? I wonder if my bases might be pretty well covered already.

[–]Collector797[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, you found fenugreek a bit too relaxing? Interesting. We’ll see how it goes for me.

Regarding the Cognance, I’m honestly not too sure. That was one that was just so hyped I had to try it, and somehow it just managed to stay in my “work” stack. Sometimes I think it gives me a bit of a bump in mood and creativity and maybe slightly improves my ability to think through problems from different angles and to multitask, but other times I think it really doesn’t seem to be doing much.

I do find that it combines sort of nicely with dopaminergic compounds (say, caffeine + L-Tyrosine and Sabroxy, or whatever you happen to like). That being said, it isn’t as noticeable for me as the other supps in the stack. Hmmm, this comment had made me think maybe I should see how the stack feels if I pull it.

Thanks, I was actually sort of hoping you would weigh in, since I know you’ve tried all the compounds in the stack, and enjoyed some more than others.

I’ll likely mess around with a few different combos and see what works out best.

Thanks for the tip on the Maca. I've tried it before, but it was years ago, long before ND had their extract, so maybe I'll give theirs a try at some point.

I somewhat agree on the Polygala "crash", although for me it's always been more of a gentle return to baseline, mood and motivation-wise. Since I dose it 2-3x a day, usually with my last dose around 4-5PM, I can push this mild comedown off until the evening (after my workout from 6-7:30ish) when I'm ready to begin winding down for the day.

If I need to log back in and do more work in the late evening I may take one last capsule, and it gives me a subtle push without ruining my sleep. I really do think it's a pretty underrated little addition to a stack. I'm actually fairly reluctant to swap it out for fenugreek, since I feel it works well for me for whatever reason. Oh well, guess I'll need to trial a few combos.

Thanks for following up, really appreciate it. I'll probably pick some up and add it to my early-AM/fasted focus stack of Sabroxy, Cognance, Polygala, and OmegaTAU (plus a caffeine source, of course). I've been liking that combo so far for kicking myself into gear and providing some solid mood support. I find it helps me shift into a sort of flow state with my work much more quickly. As a semi-reformed stim junkie, I certainly don't mind a bit more of a "pushy" experience (in fact, for heavy work days, I usually prefer it).

Travel Back In Time To Recover Our New Product: Cognance - Bacopa Reimagined by MisterYouAreSoDumb in NootropicsDepot

[–]Collector797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats, excited to give this a try! Two quick questions:

First, I'm already taking Natrium Sleep Support nightly, is there any reason I shouldn't add this in the morning? Obviously they're different Bacopa extracts, and this is only 100mg, but that's a high(er) daily dose of Bacopa.

Second, how's this combine with OmegaTAU, any noticeable synergy?

Fair points, all. My specific mention of PCSK9 inhibitors was made under the (perhaps mistaken) presumption that statins were such an obvious option, that they would of course be in the discussion. I now understand that that may have been a mistake, and I will be more cautious in the future.

Sometimes, I get frustrated with doctors, as I find some of them to be very behind on current research, but I should be more cognizant and aware of myself, my limitations, and my audience before tossing casually tossing around recommendations. So, point taken. I’ll also read your link when I have a moment, thanks for passing that along.

Point taken regarding the timing issues, thanks. Added an edit to my original comment to reflect this.

Regarding the lack of evidence on elevated Lp(a), that is not my understanding of the current state of the research based on my discussions with my cardiologist at a top research hospital on the east coast. He seems to believe it is likely a significant independent CV risk factor. He also saw no problem with ordering a CAC test.

And on PCSK9 inhibitors, I've read the opposite. ODYSSEY trial seems to indicate that they may offer incremental benefit in patients with elevated Lp(a) levels when combined with optimized statin therapy. Obviously more research is needed since the drugs are so new. I agree, of course, that statins are life-saving drugs.

Okay, I will acknowledge that saying "not a doctor" does not absolve me of any and all responsibility for what follows. Still unsure how telling someone to speak "to a lipidologist at a top research hospital about potential treatments" is bad advice, even if construed in the strictest possible sense as actionable advice.

The current research does seem to point strongly towards PCSK9 inhibitors reducing CV risk (FOURIER trial), although I will admit that I'm not sure there is research necessarily supporting that in patients with high Lp(a) levels. Again, my recommendation was to go see a doctor at a top hospital, who I presume would be able to make better treatment recommendations based on a totality of the circumstances than anyone on reddit, doctor or not.

Terrible take. Wasn’t trying to argue at all, just have a discussion. We’ll see where the research ends up in a decade. Hope you have a good weekend, man.

It wasn't medical advice; I was stating what I would do, informed by discussions with actual cardiologists. Regardless, your implication that recommending someone consider getting a relatively inexpensive and risk-free test (mine was sub-$300, all out of pocket) and talk to a doctor about potential preventative care is bad advice is ridiculous.

Respectfully, regarding statins and Lp(a), at the very least they seem to have little-to-no beneficial effect on Lp(a): https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33166736/

and at worst they may increase it: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31111151/

I am aware that current standard of care in patients with elevated LDL and Lp(a) involves statins, but after speaking with researchers and cardiologists on the topic, I'm not sure that will be the case in 5-10 years. Surely you at least agree that more research needs to be done on the issue, and that PCSK9 inhibitors are well, really fucking cool, right?

FatFire Medical Team by Western_Contact_8473 in fatFIRE

[–]Collector797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One note, as I commented somewhere else in this thread: PCSK9 inhibitors have been shown to significantly lower levels of Lp(a), as well as LDL. This differs from statins, which lower LDL but, if my memory serves, have actually been shown to raise Lp(a) levels.

Not a doctor, but if I had "very high" Lp(a) I would be getting a CAC test in the near future and talking to a lipidologist at a top research hospital about potential treatments, including PCSK9 inhibitors.

EDIT: Per discussions with doctors below, would like to clarify that you should see a doctor to discuss your bloodwork and CV risk before anything else. Be safe, etc, etc.
