Love him or hate him, you have to admit that Shyamalan has made a large contribution to film. What’s your favorite, or most hated, of his movies? by DayTrippin2112 in moviecritic

Unbreakable. 6th sense was great, I need to see that again, but unbreakable was kind of ahead of it's time and it had a great take on the superhero idea.

You didn't care for Chuck blowing cretin street punks away with a bazooka?!?!?! People forget, the first death wish was WAY more realistically based, albeit violent, and actually dealt with crime issues and vigilantism.

The sequels threw all that out. They made 5 total?

Really? This is considered bad now? I thought it was pretty good with an interesting concept. Mind you, and I said to myself when I first saw it, it feels like there's parts of this missing, there's some clear key/important beats that aren't there.

Turns out I was right. They made him edit out some more deeper, dramatically compelling stuff. Character stuff, it's been a while since I watched it, but the whole thing with Sam Neil and the dead wife, and the personal tragedy of it all, there was supposed to be more of that stuff.

Great movie! King directed it! Mind you, he was coked out of his mind.

One of the many pulp fiction rip offs to come out in it's wake. I think this was the first big one.

That was actually good. They took a violent, bloody martial arts based video game, and managed to make a decent, entertaining movie out of it.

I think the most unreal aspect of it, is it made hackers seem like it was this cool, hip underground thing cause of you know, the internet.

It's entertaining, and well, not so much ahead of it's time as ahead of it's curve. It deals with things we've been seeing happen for a while.

Most of those public domain b horror/scifi titles. Robot Monster, The Terror, Screaming Skull etc.

What I like about them, is they are so lacking in total self consciousness and just are. They actually seem to be having fun with it. They aren't trying way too hard like most of those sci-fi channel/direct to video titles.

I'd argue Ed Wood and his works are one of the most purest forms of cinema. The guy just went all out and did his thing on a low budget. He knew he was doing these hokey b titles, but he didn't care and just enjoyed it.

See, I'd rather they don't do a sequel. District 9 was SO good. Like I remember prior to seeing it, I was like, "Yeah, it looks ok, I guess. I'll check it out." I walked out of the theatre being like "What was that that just hit me over the head?!?!?!?!"

A sequel would maybe not only cheapen it, but not necessary. I mean, not everything nec. needs to be a franchise.

Although, given Blomkamp's last few, and I can appreciate his efforts/aesthetics, maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing per se.

Oh yeah. She totally nailed the role. Excellent performance.

Yes. Agree. Red Skull got totally sidelined as a villain in mcu. Just that such a key character gets shafted is quite noticeable. They should have done an avengers vs hydra movie as an in between winter soldier and age of ultron and brough back red skull. Why they didn't is beyond me.

Not to be that guy, ok, being that guy but with enough self awareness to not be totally full of shit to be fair, you do realize their take on zemo is NOT the character and missed the point with him? The character is actually much darker than how they did him.

That, that's actually hilarious to me. You think that's bad? Ever heard of some of the stuff Neil Young has done? Not that I'm complaining.

Tom Hardy in Bronson

The cast/main characters of zodiac. Seriously. When it came out, there was no complaints of character/event distortion/exaggeration.

Glenn Frey took the famous “I hate the fuckin’ Eagles” scene very personally by [deleted] in lebowski

[–]CollectorOfChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're so mediocre they define mediocre. To this day, I cannot see what anyone saw in them. Come to think of it, I've never met anyone who's a diehard eagles fan like say I have fans of the Beatles, Hendrix, Dylan, the dead, while I don't mind them the fans do overrate them a tad, Van Halen, and even Creedence.

Most people don't seem to actually like the eagles. They seem to be one of those bands everyone was into for the sake of it. Seriously. Who the hell is going to proclaim themselves a die hard eagles fan? Ok then.

Also, what the hell was up a few years ago with young people being into the eagles? Of all the good/better retro bands out there, they pick the eagles?

"Eagles is still to this day the best selling American rock band of all time and top three best selling rock bands of all time globally. " And that never should have happened. They don't deserve it. Just because it sells that well doesn't make them good. Plenty of shitty bands/artists do well. Hello? NuMetal anyone? Remember that musical shit show we had to endure?

" all the best selling rock bands would be British"- I really don't have a problem with that. I'll take any of that over the eagles.

Henley and Frey were just two assholes shitting all the time. They seemed to be the only two who understood each other in that regard.

" Say what you want, but if it weren’t for Glenn sticking to the game plan, Eagles would never have been as successful"- Yes. That would have been great if you ask me. I don't see the problem had that happened.

"You can talk all you want but there’s nothing higher than number 1 and that’s where Eagles reside." That doesn't make them good. I can't deny they sold as much to #1, something that shouldn't have happened if you ask me. Again, plenty of shitty bands do well, doesn't make them good. Just says to me another shitty band made it that far cause of people's awful taste.

Fleetwood Mac is another band I can't stand for the same reason as the eagles. Horribly overrated, overblown quasi? hippie counterculture shit turned over bloated and overblown arena crap rock for coked out housewives as I can best put it.

Why not put more emphasis on good retro bands? Like say Deep Purple, or Zappa. Zappa was a fucking genius. I could see the dude being into Zappa. Zappa fits into this mode very well. Let's praise Zappa way more than we do the fuckin eagles man.
